To get them out of local or out of the way.
You can't get any money out of a splattered pod, so I don't really see the point. Most carebears rather die then pay a ransom though: their loss.
Hatemail or killboardstanding is for bored people I guess.

Originally by: Foulis Ok, I know and accept that pirates will blow up your ship and rob you blind. It's a fact of the game. But why do all the pirates I run into pod me instantly? It doesn't benifit them in the slightest, the only reason would be for the fun of killing off a defensless enemy who couldn't possibly harm you? So why do you pod, pirates?
Because they can?

I wouldn't mind pirates so much if they weren't so optimistic about how much isk you should have. Example. I was in a caracal, my first cruiser, a pirate locks me, and blows the crap outta me before i even know hes there. So I'm sitting in my pod, I was uninsured so I dont get much back, then he convo's me and demands 10 million. 'huh?' if I had 10 million you think i'd be in a Caracal? Check my stats, I've been in the game about 2 weeks. So he says, well you got paid from your insurance 'umm no I never' So he tells me that I will have gotten something back and so I should pay him that so I dont get podded.
If i had paid him what I had, I'd have been left penniless, back to square 1 with the game, and I'd have quit by now I think. Besides, I was only 2 weeks into the game, I wasn't gonna take a really big skill point drop, besides, I had a clone.
Anywho, long story short, while he was asking for money and explaining that I had to pay him, i just kept trying to go into warp over and over, eventually his cap or something must have given out cause WHOOOSH off i went, straight back into nonni vowing never to hang around aunenen again. Course.. that didn't last, and I've been ransomed since, and I've never paid. The one time I was gonna pay, i was half a mil short of what the pirate wanted, i had no cargo and sod all mods, i explained this to him and said that 'if you blow me up you get nothing, or I can give you this half a mil short'
he said 'too bad' and blew me up
bloody pirates :P

Edited by: Quanteeri on 08/09/2005 15:09:42 Honestly, unless you're AFK or in a warp bubble, there is no reason you shouldn't be able get your pod out prior to a relock, at least from my experiences. I've gotten like 100+ ships blown out from under me and only two pods, 1 AFK, 1 in a bubble.

Ok im at work and havn't got time to read all the threads before this. But in answer to the forum topic why do pirates pod......My corp has a hanger called the trophy room, our aim is to fill this room to capacity. I have no idea how many corpses we have in the trophy room but i can tell u it takes a hell of a lotta scrolling to get from top to the bottom.

Hahaha, Thats just great :)
But most people playing as pirate will go "no way thats not me, in RL iam perfectly fine" while actually they prolly wish they could do the same as in eve, but in RL they would just get shot or busted by the police if they would.
Hahaha funny stuff.

Here is a tidbit of info....
ransoming a pod for the purpose of collecting money/goods is piracy
destroying a pod for no better reason than to "get off" on the willfull killing of others is pure terrorism
It's the world we live in.....deal with it. Stay out of .1 - .4 if you cant hang. I'm not a pirate/terrorist (I blow a gasket and break stuff when I get pod killed) but I can understand why someone would choose that lifestyle in this game.

you can do it. and if the target doesn't provide a reason for you not to do it, then why not?

Edited by: Grey Area on 08/09/2005 20:57:18 What a pointless thread. No offence, but it looks like an attempt by a carebear to understand the pirate mentality. The real reason they pod is 'cos they want to. If that means they have some sort of mental failing in real life, you will never know, you can only assume. This is a GAME, or in other words, a COMPETITION. I AM a carebear, but so help me I'd lose interest really fast if all the pirates patted me on the head and said "there you go son, on your way".
By the way I got my SHIP ransomed this week...despite the fact that it nearly bankrupted me, it was an invigorating experience. Yes, I'd like to get my own back on the pirates, no it's probably never going to happen. I take solace in the fact that SOMEday, SOMEone, SOMEwhere will kill them, but it won't be me. Such is life.
*EDIT* - in general, they DO ask for too much. Ransoming a ship might be worth the extra ISK, I'm normally more ****ed at losing the ship than being podded...particularly as I know that even if they let the pod go, if I'm in deep low sec space, I probably won't make it back home under my own steam in a starter ship anyway. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

In 0.0 podding people often removes them from the imediate area, and it can often cost more than the ship they were traveling in, especially if they have inplants __________________________________________________

the pirate who dose noting but head hunt for the killboards should always be a target too others. the only good pirate is a hung one these days. some pirates have too stay a pirate these days becouse of the body count they racked up. myself, even if i see a past pirate in a non pvp corp who i ran into i would still frag his ass on sight. i wouldnt care if he quite pirating or not.
pay back is a *****! stick it too them.

Originally by: Foulis But why do all the pirates I run into pod me instantly?
Because you are KOS to them. When examined more closely KOS stands for Kill on Sight. This means they see you and your pod instantly pops. If they did not do this then they would have to adapt a KOSS policy, which stands for Kill On Sight Sometimes. Or even if you decide to fight back it would be a KOSOSBK policy, which stands for Kill On Sight Or Sometimes Be Killed. As you can see KOS is just much simpler policy to follow.

Indeed, but for me the hatemails only confirms two things. Their admission of getting nailed good, and the unability to do anything but moan about it. Often in the most erratic and comical ways for that matter. So by all means, dont stop. Successfull PvP is the creation of win - win situations.
