Hi everybody, im trying to get this to work but im at a loss. I added networkAdvanced=1 to my prefs.ini and put in eve-proxy.eve-files.com and port 80. i hit connect it gets to pre-authentication handshake and then gives me an error ôA timeout occurred while attempting to read from the socket.ö Do youse have any ideas?

port 80 is http, and his proxy doesn't support that. Try 21 -- Remember: Pillage, then burn

My proxy should work on the same no matter what port you chose, but using port 80 may cause a local filter/firewall to react since no http-traffic is passing through.

I tried, but no luck.
When I start EvE it tells me "unable to get serverstatus on other port than 26000".
I did manually wrote "eve-proxy.eve-files.com" for server and 3128 for our proxy port (got from autoconfig script we use).
Ignoring that and pressing connect ends with "Conetion failed" ... Small text is: Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong.

Notice that my proxy is not a standard http/ftp proxy, it forwards the tcp traffic without checking any flags or data - it gets forwarded directly to TQ.
In such cases as you describe it is most likely a firewall/router on your side that filters the traffic (shaping) and thus expects a certain response from the tcp session, which of course will not arrive since my proxy only forwards the data back and forth.
The proxy works the same for _ANY_ port and is listening on the entire tcp range (port 1-65535) so no matter which port you chose my proxy will work the same, only local filters or firewalls make the difference between work or no-work.

Was there any problem with the proxy in the last 30 minutes? Or do I need to slaughter my tech team at Uni?

Thanks Chribba!
With mates we were hoping for at least skill changing, since Win machines we have are equipped with crappy graphic cards and are unusable for any serious play (but have niiiice linux boxes without Wine).
Anyway, I'm glad other ppl succedeed and works for them.

Originally by: Cetshwayo I'm at uni of Plymouth and I am having no luck with the proxy he set up. We have to dial into a VPN to be able to browse and our proxy is configured with a script. If you want I could post the settings of both so maybe you could work out what I have to do? I miss EVE loads.
Yo Dude; I share the same fate as well bro. Friggin bs this vpn set up drop a line if you worked it out, will do the same if I get some hint as well

I'd say that the in-game brower tries to surf manually so if your firewall/router requires you to use a proxy or something the IGB will never work until CCP makes so you can specify a proxy addy in the IGB settings.

On a similar note, My Uni is blocking teasmspeak. Is there anything I can do about this, for example changing the port ts uses? -- Remember: Pillage, then burn

i kept getting the black screen as well (same issue) but then i made it remember my username, and it suddenly started working.
I'm having a bit of a problem connecting though, none of the ports i'm trying get anything, only 21 gets further and it stops at the handshake, then tells me "The connection to the server was closed., "
any ideas?
btw: anyone who solves this problem for me, so that i can get onto EVE wins 50mil

There is some evilness at your side (most likely) your firewall/router is the issue.
I can connect through the proxy fine.
Try telnet to the proxy to see if you get any info back from it, eg:
[chribba@alyssa /]$ telnet eve-proxy.eve-files.com 3289 Connected to eve-proxy.eve-files.com. Escape character is '^]'. $~÷ ñp= Shiva
[chribba@alyssa /]$ telnet eve-proxy.eve-files.com 80 Connected to eve-proxy.eve-files.com. Escape character is '^]'. $~÷ ñp= Shiva
[chribba@alyssa /]$ telnet eve-proxy.eve-files.com 63521 Connected to eve-proxy.eve-files.com. Escape character is '^]'. $~÷ ñp= Shiva
If you get that you shouldn't have any problem using it to play either. Am installing eve on another machine of mine as well to re-check.

I can connect with the telnet stuff, but using eve, I either get stuck connecting, or get in and find i can't do the most simple of things, such is the slowness of my connection. Yet i can browse the net fine or download files or whatever.

Chribba, thank you for all your assistance.
For those of you with black screens: add your username after username: in the pref file and that should clear up the black screen issue.
Of course, I've tried all our open ports and though 21 gets me to handshake, it is obvious that our boys playing with the firewall have it locked down tighter than....<insert rude comparison here>.
Thanks for all your help...guess I'll have to *shudder* run out to the internet cafe....

Sounds like a firewall on your side, prolly like ones I work with that tries to analyze the traffic passing through (ftp-analyzer in this case). And thus blocking it (or just blank waiting for ftp communication).
