Edited by: Red Leader on 30/07/2003 19:55:44 The Lords of Matar is currently recruiting. Go here (http://www.genesismuds.com/eve/) for all the details or contact Red Leader in game with questions.
Overview- The Lords of Matar is not your usual EVE corporation. We are not content to remain a mere corporation, trading beneath the banner of an NPC empire. Instead we seek to build a truly PC run empire of our own. EVE was designed to be a largely player-run universe and it is in the spirit of that intention that we work towards the construction of our own empire. Such construction requires a strong member base working to establish such necessities as a standing navy, a series of space-stations, a healthy research and manufacturing arm, and of course an efficient mining operation. We encourage you to consider the role of your character in EVE and whether you would like to contribute to MMOPWG history by attempting to craft the first all-PC run empire in EVE.
Participation in the Lords of Matar will allow you to pursue your character's natural talents and your own inclinations to their fullest - whether you wish to make your personal name as a miner, fighter pilot, trader, scientist, or industrialist the Lords of Matar can facilitate you in your pursuits - and all the while you will be helping to create an empire all our own.

Krath Imperium was the first, but I don't know if they're still around or how successful they were. But it is a cool idea, good lucks.

Thanks to all of those who have joined so far. We are growing quite well but we still need more people to help us build a true empire. And if you're brand new to the game we can even help you out by equipping you with a sturdy mining frigate.

I really like the idea of helping to build an empire. Its a better direction than a lot of corps have. But how much time in a week do you require members to be online? I have a job and life outside of EVE and a lot of corporations ask for a committment of several hours EACH day.

Our requirements are actually modest in comparison to some corporations. We hold regularly scheduled corp events (such a group mining or hunting) several times a week, timed for the convenience of both our stateside and european members. Our only requirement is that a member of the corporation take part in at least one of these events each week for 2-3 consecutive hours. So far all of our members participate much more than this and obviously those who do receive greater preference in items, ships, positions, etc. But EVE -is- a game and people have jobs, kids, and other responsibilities and desires so we try and accommodate both the power players and well as more leisurely players. Lastly, in recruitment I am more concerned with finding long term players that will consistently help to build the empire rather than players who hit it hard for a few weeks and then quit playing altogether. Slow and steady wins the race.

Edited by: Red Leader on 02/08/2003 21:30:27 Now why would you go and say a thing like that Miso? I read your post the other day and felt you were a kindred spirit. I mean we are trying to carve our own territory out of an existing empire, Ammatar. An empire that promotes slavery and is actively propped up by the biggest oppressor of all - the Amarr empire. So here, have a soapbox, and tell me why you would undermine our efforts.

Our first week of existance has been very good. We have managed to recruit ten new members while also making sure that we only accept mature, responsible, and group-oriented players. Our goal is to have between 30 and 50 members though so that we can lay the foundations for a true all-PC empire. So if interested contact Red Leader.

Seen your website Red Leader. It looks like you are setting up a pyramid insurance sales company rather than a feudal empire.

Red Leader - To clarify the intentions of the Black Hand:
"Formation of the Black Hand
The Eve universe is homogenising. Slowly we see two distinct groups emerging - those that see themselves as 'legitimate' business concerns, and those who seek to take what they can from the legitimate business concerns. Alliances are quickly formed and broken as each corporate entity vies with its enemies and allies alike, to grab a slightly larger slice of the Eve pie.
The borders shift, alliances break, morality and ethics fall by the wayside. Soon there will be little to choose between the groups. Soon there will be two or three large alliances, each fighting for their inch of space, their cut of the profit pie.
In response to these growing hegemonic threats, I am proud to annouce the formation of the Black Hand. The Black Hand does not exist as a distinct corporation, more as a loose alliance of like-minded individuals. Although we are disparate in nature, we are united in intent, although small and lack the firepower of larger, more cumbersome corporations, we are quick and flexible and hit hard.
Our aims are to stifle the growth of the very biggest corporations in Eve, to disrupt harmful exclusionist alliances by groups that wish only to accumulate ISK, control mineral production and manufacturing and grow fatter and more greedy at the expense of all others."
I look forward to meeting you in combat. :) -------------------------------------------- Dead

Hm. I understand this is simply a humorous analogy made without malice but I think I will take the opportunity to clarify what we are, and what we are about. For, if from reading our website people get the impression we are the Amway of EVE than maybe I should rewrite it as that is far from what we are. Calling the Lords of Matar a pyramid insurance sales company carries with it two erroneous implications:
1) That its a scam 2) That its a scam directed solely for the profit of person at the top of the pyramid.
It is true that we are organized as a pyramid. On top is the Marquis. Below him are Barons who control pieces of the empire's territory. Below them are banner knights which lead the last levels - the knights and squires - in corp operations initiated by any of the leadership.
Yet, if you were to change these titles to CEO, Directors, Managers, and line staff you would see our arrangement is really no different than any other EVE corporation based on a modern org chart.
What makes our system different is first, the allocation of territory such as systems and belts to Barons and second, the more autonomous and decentralized nature of an allegiance/fealty system connecting the different levels of the pyramid. Furthermore, as each leader has a great deal of autonomy, acting as a virtual sub-corp, there is actually more opportunity for the advancement and enrichment of those leaders and their members than if was a straight, centralized and totalitarian top-down hierarchy with all the profits going straight to the organization and the person at its head.
I hope this helps to clear up any confusion as to what our goals are. It is not to scam anyone, rather it is to create an organization that can contribute to the fun of EVE; both the fun of our members and other players. We chose a feudal system because its unique, its decentralization allows a lot of autonomy among the members, and this same decentralization allows effective delegation of command allowing the corp to be large in member size without feeling to its members like a monolithic and faceless bureacracy of which they are only a pawn. Lastly, our choice to attempt to build an empire is not some hidden megalomania but rather the conclusion that EVE is boring if all you do is mine for isk to buy yet another bigger ship to go hunt for yet bigger guns. At a certain point you, and the corp you are in, need a goal to keep the game interesting and I and my corp members feel that the goal of creating a true all-pc empire will provide countless hours of fun as it will be so challenging to achieve. But if we did and the next time you opened the map and by clicking 'show sovereignity' you saw the label of 'The Lords of Matar' on a piece of the universe? Well, that would simply be cool.

First: A welcome to Tih Ahh, Lilith Shade, Atropine, Guru Dom, and Maverik.
Second: A congratulations to all those corp members who helped to assasinate the Amarr envoy to Ammatar carrying documents on Minmatar defenses. The corpse of the lead envoy now graces our trophy room.
