You just know that when we finally invade NK and capture Mr. Un, we'll find a "bin Laden Style Pleasure Palace" with pornography and lube jars laying about. From what I can gather, NK doesn't have any missiles with the range to actually reach the continental US

Nukes, blast and radiation is the very last thing you have to worry about.
Small yield nuclear device detonated 300mile above the center of the USA could fry just about most emp unprotected electronic devices in the USA.
There was a recent bill that a rino killed that would of made efforts to help prevent the full effects of an emp attack or solar flare.
Considering no power, no transport etc it is estimated in the USA that 90% of people would be dead in the first year. Starvation, cold, disease, just think the dark ages and your close.
The above could well just as well happen from solar flare activity as well.

That would almost be scary if it were true. But it would require us to have no generators, no Army core of engineers, no vehicles before 1970, and we sat on our hands for that entire year. Out of Pod is getting In the Pod - Join in game channel IG OOPE |

Compared to them, a cockroach is a fragile wuss. Consider this: Tardigrades can withstand temperatures from just above absolute zero to well above the boiling point of water. They can survive pressures greater than any found in the deepest ocean trenches. They have lived through the vacuum of outer space. They can survive solar radiation, gamma radiation, ionic radiationGÇö at doses hundreds of times higher than would kill a person. They can go without food or water for nearly 10 years, drying out to the point where they are 3% or less water, only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce. And they're also kind of adorable. |

The above could well just as well happen from solar flare activity as well. Solar flare or CME is less likely to do that - possible, but Earth's own magnetosphere is pretty good protection. A high-altitude nuclear device however, is 'inside the armor,' so-to-speak.
Actually though, it'd need to be bigger than a 'small yield' device. And right now, all NK can produce are essentially micro-yield and squibs. Plus, he'd have a damned hard time placing it with his crappy balistic devices.
I'm far more worried abuot what he could do to the economy by simply attempting conventional war against South Korea. We've got a lot of important global economic activitiy tied to South Korea. Which there is a good chance that at least half of them don't fire anymore and I believe most don't have the range to hit Seoul. The media love to rant on about how North Korea is this ticking bomb waiting to go off and how loads of lives could be lost at the whim of Kim Jong Un, it's mostly just media hype and scaremongering. If North Korea kicks off and starts a war China has a lot to lose and as such I'd be surprised if they didn't sort it out themselves, after all they don't want US forces anywhere near them, they don't want an influx of refugees pouring over their borders. Heck, if China stays out of the whole ordeal it still would be over so quickly as North Korea is already ****** without having an active war on it's hands. I say active as what they have now is nothing more than beating it's chest. |

I'd say the most iconic fighter that fought over Korea would be the F-86 Sabre, which is arguably one of the most beautiful fighters ever made.
And speaking of the F-86, that brings back memorys of another old game called MiG Alley Set Lasers for Fun!!! |

I tend to turn to the register for my news - seeing how i like it techy and all.
and they have a nice little piece on this today.
As the poster above pointed out - the nuclear threat 'seems' to be minimal compared to the 'theoretical' 1/2 million shells an hour they could pour into Seoul in the current state. The man in the register is wrong in areas youll spot easily but his points hold true anyway, its a desperate nation and has been for a long time as we all know. What would get the worlds attention ? How about decapitating a large part of its luxury, and thats not just South Korea in easy reach here for that one.
Mr Reg man mentions the parking lot for all major nations - and we all know the nation that simply will not have that, ever.
I dunno - this ones different and i wonder if a plan has come up myself that in metaphor would be the naughty child that sends Mum and Dad to the kitchen watching them close the door behind them.
I have no idea what purpose it would serve other than some weird Pol Pot alike slaughter and i have an overactive imagination at the best of times.
Thinning the crowd to retake the South ? "caught on fire a little bit, just a little." "Delinquents, check, weirdos, check, hippies, check, pillheads, check, freaks, check, potheads, check .....gangsn++ all here!" |

Well if we're talking some of the most beautiful military aircraft of the cold war era, I'd suggest the AVRO Vulcan and the English Electric Lightning(Mach 2 in the 50's!!). Don't think either saw service in Korea though, although I understand the Lightning is the only Military Aircraft that managed to do a stern intercept on Concord, and the Vulcan has the (mythological?) reputation of out maneuvering F-15s in joint exercises.
