Here.
The intractable humor of Matari workers facing a manpower labor shortage has left me in stitches all day.

This is more the case of someone threatening them if they do the jobs they were happy performing for fair compensation before.

I completely agree here, actually.
If a simple threat is going to keep you from doing your duties, you have failed you community, and should be placed under supervision, so that your incompetence and cowardice can no longer hurt your peers.
Indentured servitude would fit that bill, as would straight up slavery. |

The same could be said for you. I am very tempted to go on at great length, but I will leave only this last point here for you to consider.
The willingness of these workers to show up or not has nothing to do with their competence at their jobs, as such claiming incompetence on their part is not applicable.

Considering the recent events in the cluster's other nations, If a labor shortage is the only thing we have to worry about right now then I'd say we are pretty well off.

That's a bit odd. If we have a labor shortage, why would we embrace corporate labor?

Find it interesting how in the face of idle threats, they're willing to let their entire livelihoods and infrastructure crumble around them.
Whilst I don't support slavery but were they to be in the hands of many holders, they would certainly have better living conditions than the ones they are prepared to face.
Now I'm sure I'm going to be told that 'I don't understand' the Minmatar drive and their ideals of freedom. That would be fair. I don't. At the very least I would have suspected them to root out and fight their harasser, instead of turning around in a stunning lack of work ethic and leaving their entire community's well-being up as collateral. |

Come now. Clearly someone is failing their responsibility to keep these workers working. While the workers themselves might "only" be guilty of cowardice and not fulfilling duty, there is some form of leadership clearly not fit for leading. |

Very apt, Mr. Weitong. Obviously some replacements are in order on virtue of merit.
There are several Caldari I can think of who have experience with overseeing such operations who may be more capable candidates than the current management.

Diana, the Matari are moving away from an industrial society and are becoming more of a farmer society. At least that is what I hear the Amarr complain about. Myself I have not noticed it yet. Mt factories are still running fine. |

Given the Republic's current economy (or rather, a lack of one), one would suppose the common man would take some initiative to make things better in situations like these. However...
I think it's fairly obvious what's happening here; due to poor management and lazy workforce the current condition of the infrastructure is in horrible condition, and instead of stepping up, taking the responsibility for poor results and making a difference, those in charge are shrugging their shoulders and blaming all their woes on boogeyman Angel raids and threats of enslavement.
If you're going to make excuses for your laziness, at least make them somewhat plausible.

Again with the gross misrepresentation of my words. I'm beginning to think it's intentional Mr. Bloodbird.
The fact of the matter is, that these people might be in risk of losing their water supply. Their infrastructure is a mess, and people are not showing up to make it better. Had these people been marched to their jobs in chaingangs they would be working, and their peers would be better off as a result. This is simple and undeniable fact.
While I do concur that indentured servitude or slavery would be better than their current situation, I did not claim that it would be the only solution. I personally couldn't care less how other people run their societies, but when they refuse to take responsibility on a scale that threatens the population of an entire planet, you cannot seriously think, that these people should be allowed to keep endangering their people. |
