Not flame, obviously, venting core plasma or some other techno babble, minnie ship drive use tech that can be used to grill ships, too. Super close range weapon that can overheat damage your modules or something equally silly so we can have new OP module to whine about (no one whines about Large NoS anymore).
Flammenwerfer to burn space weed plantations while listening to skrillex. My peepee gets hard just thinking about the prospect. |

Yes but blaster don't give off AOE or any status mod.
Flamer could be lower damage than blasters but have secondary effect like overheating modules. |

Liz Arran wrote:Yes cause there's oxygen in space to use flame throwers Because obviously it's the most glaring problem with this suggestion which basicaly features just another obligatory neut-like mod that operates with heat levels instead of cap, to the same effect (taken to 11, granted).
This aside, there is no problem of deploying flamethrowers in vacuum, underwhater and anywhere else for that effect. Think about it, rocket engines are exactly that. All you need is to bring your own oxidant with you instead of taking it from atmosphere.
Another fun fact: we already have Inferno missiles and phased plasma rounds, which are exactly that, thermite weapons of EVE. |

Lol at OP, ROFL at responses. "Nooo! A suggestion for a new module! My intelligence circuits are melting! Must be a bad idea!"
I like the idea of an offensive module to overheat another ship's modules. Would be even more interesting if it increased the normal overheat effect of the enemy module until it was 100% damaged. Hooray, I'm l33t! -á(Kil2: "The higher their ship losses...the better they're going to be.") |

DIDINT READ THE OP lelelele
If you want to be pedant and arsnugget, i can tell you right now that thermal deposition weapons are amazing space weapons.
The ISS space station uses radiators to pump out the heat from the stations because in vacuum of space, only way to lose heat is to radiate it.
If you deposit heat using plasma jet/laser on to enemy hull, it wont cool down anytime fast. In theory, you can compromise the enemy ships structure cooking it. |

Oh, an astrophysicist, are we now? Our suns corona may be about 1M kelvin but is 10^GêÆ12 less dense than photosphere, which is measly 6000 kelvin.
Not even in the same ballpark than the reactor plasma of amarr battleships core cording to lore, or at same density.
Did you know, that if we compare sun to a compost, density vice it outputs less heat? |

I am disinclined to believe you: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-07/how-close-could-person-get-sun-and-survive
Quote:The shipGÇÖs reinforced carbon-carbon heat shield is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 4,700-¦ to ensure that the spacecraft and its passengers can survive the friction heat generated when it reenters the atmosphere from orbit. If the shield wrapped the entire shuttle, McNutt says, astronauts could fly to within 1.3 million miles of the sun (roughly the two-yard line). But the integrity of the shield degrades rapidly above 4,700-¦, and the cockpit would begin to cook. GÇ£I would advise turning away from the sun well before that point,GÇ¥ McNutt says. Much hotter than that, the shields would fail altogether, and the vehicle would combust in less than a minute.

Do the math, take a compost output in Watts, scale it to sun and see what outputs more.
And you do realize, that in this game, sun does not exert any effect, at all? Ive been in middle of stars in EVE back in the days when sun did not bounce you off.
However, the sun, like ours, is midget compared the powers that reside in the cores of spaceships we fly in EVE.
The only reason sun seems so "powerful" is the scale. Now scale the reactor of EVE's ships to scale of sun and see what outputs more, a warp capable ship or a stellar lightweight fusion reactor. |

An AOE thermal weapon that damages within a short range.
Sounds like a plasma smartbomb. Whether they are adequate is more of a balance question.

Do the math, take a compost output in Watts, scale it to sun and see what outputs more. Do the math, neither a sun-sized flamethrower or a compost powered space flamethrower is going to be practical. Stars are still hot enough that a space flamethrower (plasma or otherwise) isn't going to be noticeable to an Eve ship.
Quote:And you do realize, that in this game, sun does not exert any effect, at all? Ive been in middle of stars in EVE back in the days when sun did not bounce you off. I realize a lot of things. Ships bounce off of each other which implies that kinetic weapons are useless. Weapons (including missiles) can travel through solid objects. Ranges are limited to 250km. Ships have unlimited endurance (no fuel and crew consumables.) Crews magically appear in ships built in isolated wormholes. Submarine physics. Anti-matter can be mass produced safely but it's not an uber weapons system. Railguns fire non-magnetic rounds. Shots appear to have no travel time (i.e. FTL speeds.) A Raven's mass is ~67 greater than the mass of a single Manticore stealth bomber. (What has more firepower, a Raven or 67 Manticores?) Etc..

The only reason sun seems so "powerful" is the scale. Now scale the reactor of EVE's ships to scale of sun and see what outputs more, a warp capable ship or a stellar lightweight fusion reactor. If lasers powered by a warp capable ship cannot set ships on fire until they burn off all the shields and hull first, then I don't think a space flamethrower will be an improvement.
