Ok first off, I read pretty far, and read Tux qouting numbers with the Rax fitted with 5 pulse LASERS, and I wanted to hit something... Was this a Freudian slip? or what?
I TOTALY understand a light nerf to drone bay for the rax to bring it inline with the so called "theme" CCP is now finally incormporating into the game for ships...
But what we're left with IMHO is a lame duck. Maybe not the lamest duck, but a sad blow for a ship that before took a LOT of skills to make as terrifying as it was.
Yes the bonus grid (150 I belive) IS great, and does make a signifigant difference in how it will perform, but I'm far from convinced that the Rax will be much of a competitor for much longer...
In the past when some tard whined about a Rax WTFPWNing them they had no idea what it took to make that WTF happen:
1: Mula: A fully fitted rax with all the best isn't quite as cheap as some suspect, no it's not a drop in the bucket for a rich player, but thats not the point. The Rax fitted proper doesn't have a cheap price tag. But price is only a small part of the "cost" of this ship. I'm not saying you needed your own diamond mine to fit it, but a nice piggy bank is required.
2: Skills: All the power of the rax wouldn't be possible unless you have the skills behind it... This includes a minimum of all fitting skills at five, Gallente cruiser at at least 4, Gun skills maxed, preferably at tech II depending on what your fitting. And so much more. Thats a LOt of high level skills. Then you also need the skills required to make the tackle work (assuming your solo hunting), and so on.
3: ANY and ALL blaster boats need to be within reacharound distance to thier prey, which means a LONG period of time where they are for lack of a better description, rolling the dice to see what happens while they get into range. Requiring precise player control and manipulation to pull it off. All the while managing 8 heavy drones which may or may not screw up...
In short this ship is not an I win button, it is not a ship that earns you victories, but a ship you must EARN. It's the artists ship, plain and simple.
For every terrifyingly powerful Rax pilot outthere who earns the whines in the nerf the rax threads, there are 10 idiots flying thier rax with 250MM rails and shield tank with no drone skills to speak of, or something of similar calibur.
Now we come to the typical Amarr buff orgy... Amarr getting faster (at least in some ships if not across the board), with the guns which do great damage at any skill level, offset only by cap use... Getting bonuses to things that they don't need IMHO (PG for example).
Anyway, I can understand giving the rax a slight love tap with the nerf bat, but CCP took a running field goal kick at the ships nuts, sent one of them into orbit (the other 100m3 drone space nut dangling uselessly now), and in return gave them a Kermit the frog bandaid fix (150Pg).
Is the Rax ruined? I don't think so... But damn...
I'm all for all ships being more useful, but come one now... I see nothing here that makes any race stand out much anymore...
I can only hope the Brutix gets it's uberness back as payment to us gallente pilots. As right now the brutix is a laughing stock... I really tried to like that thing, I really did... But then I tried a prophecy, and even with newb amarr skills (race ship/lasers) it was a wrecking machine by comparison to my more or less upper/high level gallente Cruiser/BC (brutix) oriented skills.
Oh well... At least i can take comfort in knowing the Rax is supposed to be fit with 5 Pulse lasers now, how could I have been so stupid to not see that before!? *sighs*
But seriously, as these are just values being testing on the test server, I can only hope someone out there rethinks this nerf a tiny bit... I still say the nerf is ok, but tone it down a bit please...
