I guess I'll show you a little conversation between me and a truther on YouTube.
Talking about transhumanism
Me: Or a more effective way of population control is what Japan is doing. Educate the citizensn++ , as people becomes more educated , they realize there are more things in life than simply animistic proliferation . They start having less babies. A quarter of their population will be 60+ by 2050. Transhumanism enables humans to live a healthy , active life style far longer than previously possible. Giving the public a chance to live a life to the fullest , while still contributing to society. Win win In the end , its not about not "dying" , its about delaying the inevitable. Transhumanism is about eliminating the mortal weakness that compels man to sin . We hope to create an equal world where no man will have ton++ walk a road of crime because of his childhood . No woman will have to lay down their bodies for a meal. Where all men are rewarded as according to their contribution. A decent world , a world where we are not just mere animals. A world where we are truly human.
The Truther: I have some moon property for sale since you lapped up the Kurzweil lies pretty good. You comments read like one who has been totally deceived by the globalist plan to turn the the population into ultra controllable robots. Man is imperfect, and to attempt perfection w/o the God who makesn++ all things possible is about as wise as picking a fight with a lion. To all those who foolishly believe that by becoming POST-MAN (irony there) things will improve, well.. go ahead, welcome your own death.
There is too many posts. Go read it yourself , getting pretty fed up of him atm , you are welcome to join in on the fray .
PS: On a funny note. He quoted Genetic Entrophy

Some people dont have jobs... or lives and need stuff like this to while away their time. Its rather sad.
A couple years ago someone linked a comment section from a website, cant remember if it was youtube or something else. Anyway, one of the people arguing was saying that gravity was still only a theory and there was no way it could be proven that it was not God making it happen... then it got drawn into a flat Earth argument and that Galileo was wrong because some christian TV pastor said otherwise...
Oh the internet.
Still not reading that comment section though. Sorry Ivy. Here has enough madness for me. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Ok .. to clear things up , firstly . He forgot about lateral genes transfer and how undesirable genes are not passed on (of course he ignored my counter argument ) And then he called me a racist because I am against the Israeli government ? (I thought antisemitic means illogical hated and prejudice against jews , but doh well) And now he's hanging onto the fact that I play video games as a decreditor towards what i say ? And he believes afterlife is real ...

I don't agree 100% with your definition of transhumanism, but arguing with fundies is a futile endeavor. If you really want to try and get a point across to them, logic and reason will only seek to further consolidate their own view, so you need to take another approach; question them, subtly make them ask questions and think for themselves. They will never be convinced right out however elegant your post might be. You need time, and you need to plant a seed of doubt in them.
Personally I think it strange how so many people view transhumanism is such a bad light, when its the single most positive force out there for the betterment of humanity, but than again, people fear change and what is new, more so since the concepts of transhumanism goes against the current culture in such a big way.
I mean, I did not read about transhumanism and decide in one day that is was awesome, it took time, research and reflection. Having rejected religion many years past (and actually thought hard about the concept), critical thinking comes easier now, but it is an acquired skill that many people never really get. After all, our culture does not really promote it, it promotes dumb conformity from an early age.
So while it is easy to dismiss fundies and other nutjobs, most of them are actually victimes of culture and circumstance. |

Well in the end it depends on which stream of transhumanism do you agree with . Singularitarianism ,Postgenderism and Extropianism intrigues me the most .
I've argued with many on YouTube (kinda ashamed about squander my neurons like that if I'm honest) From Nationalists supporting the Tiananmen massacre , White Phosphorus usage on civilians in Gaza . Notice how every single time something happens in the world there is what happens and there is the "truth". Everything, everything has a cause that is "not the official story" everything. That cause is always the same.
* The government or secret one world government. * Rich people plotting genocide and dictatorship. * Evil special interests. * Aliens.
By the way it is never one of those per event, there is a version of each for every one. I get that there are some conspiracies in the world but everything that happens is always blamed on some super global web filled with thousands of conspirators plotting the over throw of governments and have plans to turn the world into that torture state in 1984.
Just once I would like something big to happen and everyone be like "Wow that is obviously exactly what happened. I've taken the time to look over all the evidence and it seems obvious that, that is what happened." |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism
"Transhumanism (abbreviated as H+ or h+) is an international intellectual and cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally transforming the human condition by developing and making widely available technologies to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities."
I generally just stick to that, and the rest will follow naturally. To better ourselves, and to seek freedom from drudgery and meaningless "jobs". Extropianism is a good idea as well as a philosophy to have on top of it. Guess my overall philosophy can be called anarcho-transhumanism.
As for Singularitarianism, I see it simply as a natural cause of our accelerating technology. And it is fun to watch in realtime these days. Tech now, compared to just 10 years ago... well, it really speaks for itself. We have good things coming our way if we do it right.
I now and then post a snide comment on youtube, but really, I have never convinced anyone there about anything, and they have never convinced me either. I just don't care about these nutters all that much anymore. I rather just talk with reasonable people and work towards my own goals.
So I simply dismiss all the nutters, or if I feel like it i ask them questions that make them question their own ideas. Better to spend my time and energy to actually do something I find worthwhile, and lead by example. If they insist I follow a "cult of kurzweil" or some such nonsense, it does not matter.
However, if they genuinely ask me about my position, in an honest way out of curiosity, that is a whole other matter. But most do not do that. |

I don't have the links saved. And I do not get EVE Search to agree with my searches, still the history is there, but of course there were a lot of **** back then as well :). What I do remember was that I was discussing a lot of interesting things, for instance one thread I discussed that one should take personal responsibility for the future, and that a defeatist attitude and just conforming to society is ultimately just helping to perpetuate the problems our society has. Just one example of a fun topic, but there were others as well. Suffice it to say, I think the quality of posts have dropped dramatically, but maybe I just want more out of a post now than I did previously. I dunno. |

ooook. Yes, I made some pretty stupid threads (mostly under the effect of alcohol) . Was going through some pretty hard times , C-ed Non-euclidean geometry But then again , I do notice my threads do go pretty off topic for no reason. For example ,there was my thread which started off as "Girlfriends are out of fashion" , however as we progressed through our discussion we moved on Japan feudalism and then suddenly to the industrial revolution and then western global influence , suddenly off to Mars with libido suppressant? And then as previously mentioned , the flu thread that even got CCP's attention. We started with the H7N9 flu , then we moved onto Chinese media credibility , then homosexuality and its possible affinity to STD , finally getting it locked .
OOPE can be weird sometimes.
And about my alcohol thing . Well, some advice form someone 30 years older: when drunk, stay off the Interwebs. Can lead to major trouble (you wouldn't believe what a friend did to his bank account). And then as previously mentioned , the flu thread that even got CCP's attention. We started with the H7N9 flu , then we moved onto Chinese media credibility , then homosexuality and its possible affinity to STD , finally getting it locked . OOPE can be weird sometimes. I actually got Blocked by Bill Corbett, they voice of Crow T Robot, over on Twitter for going off on him by taking a joke as serious. I was 'drunkenly concerned' that it was the truth so he thought I was a Troll.

Seriously. Truthers and Birthers are fanatics - it is a religion to them, faith over fact and reason. Even though some of them are technically quite smart. Go figure. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Smart by the standard of suedo science usage and circular arguments ... yes they are . They also have the tendency to believe they themselves are victorious even tho others simply gave up on drilling into his titanium carbide skull .

My father, god love him, is a Birther. He holds a doctorate in the dual subjects of mechanical and aeronautical engineering. He's a mathemetician with whom to conjur - maybe 1500 other mathematicians on the entire planet can keep up with him. And he's a Birther. Probably because it's easier than admitting to himself that he's an un-reconstructed bigot. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. They argue the creationists for the sake of the other people that may be "on the fence", or to further consolidate a solid viewpoint that others can use that may not be the best at discussions, not to convince the creationist.
I still remember that whole venomfang thing, as I was big on watching such videos back then as a part of consolidating my own viewpoint.

Considering how the partially informed is even more easily influenced than the uninformed and how they prejudice with the fragmented and often wrong understanding of the world's fundamental concepts will only serve the further deepens their roots in the cess pool .

Maybe, maybe not. At the end of the day, you are pretty much ****** if you are not able to think for yourself and ask questions and adapt your own world view. Too many people seem to lack this capacity. |

Yeah, by the way, nowadays, religion is a class in school over here (1 or 2 hours per week), starting at age 5-6 (pre-school) up to age 18-19 (the 12th grade). That's 13 years of religion being thought to kids IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. You can "opt out" if you insist, but the default is to have the "class", and you get some dirty looks if you do try to opt out, since nearly 95% of the population claims to be a believer in some kind of god. And we're not talking history of religion or anything like that, but actual church dogma. Latest political stunt was to try and have religion inserted into the constitution of a secular state. Yup, Romania is slowly but surely turning into Afghanistan. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |
