Isn't gate camping kinda Boring? Why don't Pirates chase people? I got away every time warping in at least and most the time going out.
I am not a Pirate and don't mind getting killed but getting past a gate camp seems kinda embarrassingly dumb.
It is easy to warp in and at least finish a mission.
And why don't you Pirates ever chase me when I warp in and fly right past you? It is easy to do, you can see my ship and where it goes.
I know for sure if you chased me I would of had been dead and what fun!
I would think it was more fun to chase people and kill them.
Liven it up Pirates, would ya?

Its kind of obvious.
99% of traffic is from gate to gate or gate to station.
Are they meant to sit at planet 6 moon 3 in the hope you show up?
Also, chasing is great in theory, but how exactly are they meant to chase you 17AU and just slightly to the left and down of the sun? That takes scan probes and time.
No offense, but I doubt your ship and fittings get a pirate all excited when hes looking for a good payday.

Ok fine, belt hunting, at least that's something.
But don't tell me a pirate sitting in a 90,000,000 ship in a .4 sec system between 1.0 sec systems is getting some huge Noob loot.
I would think they could at least do some terror tactics.
I chased people with no problem just to see if I could do it.
If someone jumps in and warps to some place in the system, you can see their ship go to that place and just warp there too and finish the job.
That would be more interesting then just sitting and waiting in one spot.
I mean I would like to have more of a Tactical war going on with the Pirates but if they just want to sit in one spot, then fine, I'm just trying to put some better ideas out there.
Otherwise pirates sitting at one spot and not moving is just kind of boring and just makes pirates a non issue to be able to run past.
And if you do get killed buy the camp trying to get out, so what, it was going to happen for sure anyways and is not really any big surprise.
You can do it, I chased someone through several systems many times just by looking where they went.
Whatever, doesn't anyone have any better ways to Pirate?
Don't you think chasing someone would give them a bit more terror? Isn't that what you want?
Just admit it, gate camping is boring and lame in Concord surrounded areas especially.
That is not fun, it is just a woosy way of thinking you're cool.
Frelling NPC Pirates can gate camp, please.
Gate camp sure but sitting in one spot is not tactical and lame.
And Pirate Corps want people to join them to do what? Sit at a gate for a few hours?
What ever, we got real human Pirates not NPC's and still they act worse then computer AI, at least in Empire Space.
Oh well, please is there anyone that can say they liven things up, and that I have just not seen them in action yet?

Dont worry, many people engage in belt piracy.Teh Sniggles are probably the currently most well know for this.
I sometimes jump in an Incursus and get some kicks ransoming destroyers/mining cruisers at belts myself, which can be quite cost-effective, not to mention occasionly difficult.

Here is how I get passed the pirates and still finish my mission in empire space with little or no loss.
Take in a Condor no problem getting inside and into station.
Sell Condor or refine and sell and get shuttle, run to gate out using insta take 0 to 3 shots and still alive against over 200,000,000 isk in ships.
If I die I get cheap ride back to Agent
Most times I live.
Tried to make it exiting but got boring fast sorry.
If I got chased I would never make it inside the station. Or do you just get off sitting in one spot pressing a button and knowing you will win in your 90,000,000 isk ship? That is if they just donĘt fly right past you.
most times I'm sure they don't try hard to kill me cuz I'm just a condor, but they are Pirates they should put terror in the harts of all...
What is the matter are you guys listening to the please don't scare the noobs posts?
But Realy I still think you Pirates are great people just try and liven it up please thanks, I would do the same for you.

Assuming you operate in a particular region it would be reasonable to assume that you have many instas set-up. If a pirate sees a ship warping in < 2.5k away from a gate I imagine there isn't much they can do about it. After seeing you warp out it would be of questionable value giving chase as it would also be reasonable to assume that you have instas for the remainder of your journey, hence a difficult target to chase and probably not worth the effort as easier prey are likely to pass through if they bide their time.
Just my opinion.

In lowsec I don't gatecamp, it's boring.
However, in 0.0 chasing people is generally pointless due to the following things:
Instajumps Warp Core Stabs Safe Spots.

I chased a guy for 20 jumps or so once. Usually I don't really bother, but I hadn't had anything to shoot for a while.

Belt piracy is a lot more fun than gate camping. If you just want frags, you camp gates. If you want fun, you go to belts and kill/ransom people. Its a lot more of a challenge--you can often find people with much more powerful ships than you. -- Proud member of the [23].

Unfortunately, you're a lot less likely to find the big score, such as an iteron 5 carrying 240k megacyte, chasing people around belts.

Tbh im more in to pirating for the pure fun in getting to pvp, gate camping aint pvp in my eye's Ofcourse sometimes it's more of a gank in belts also. But then you also find those ppl that put up a fight and it makes it all worth it

I pirate im empire space to make isk, and sniping at gates makes the most ammount of it.
Chasing people around for pvp? boring imo as they probably aint set up for pvp. Busting up choke point camps or flying around trying to find other solo pvpers, now thats fun. Spending hrs scanning through belts and finding squatt is not fun imo, it used to be, but not anymore.

Edited by: Grimwalius d''Antan on 18/09/2005 16:29:29 You better fly an Indy full of goodies and manage to warp off if you want me to chase you. Chasing random victims is pretty pointless as it is way to easy to evade pirates (really). You'll just get away, and I'll be leaving the gate unguarded, potentially missing a ship I really wanna get my hands on.
Is gatecamping boring? Well, the act of camping is boring yes, but it leaves you alot of time for being social. It is a damn lot of fun just talking to your corpmates and read the forums while you wait for "gate active".

I gate camp when I get really low on cash. It's boring as hell. But if it allows me to afford to engage in much more interesting belt piracy, then it's a decent compromise. |

I hardly ever snipe anymore. Found it more fun solo by just tanking Sentry in random Amarr ships (Maller/Prophecy/Geddon/Apoc). But it got old quickly but none the less most of the isk came from it. It's work and it beats mining ore heh.
If people actualy honored the trade of "Piracy" it would be better. However, most of them don't. So chasing ect is pretty much out the door. People still will log at the sight of your bounty or security status. So it's pretty hard not to camp a gate/station to catch people off guard. Remember, it isn't like PvP where they want to fight/ransomed...

If by challenge you mean finding someone, anyone, mining in low security AND not paying attention to local and didn't safe spot or dock as soon as you enter system. Then yeah, I agree. Its 10x more boring.

what he said. Im not in it for the fights im in it to fund my expensive lifestyle of spirits, tobacco, long limb roes, narcotics and exotic dancers. Camping is fun anyway so
Edit: To do it well it takes skills, Im rather good at it and I prefer to work solo or in a very small group of maybe 3 people. Any nub can gate camp or snipe, however it takes in game knowledge and player skill to do it well, just like any other profession.

-Yes.
I can gate camp for a little while if I know there is traffic but after about 5-15mins I'll get bored - i'd say mining/knawing off my leg is more interesting than gate camping or some fleet battles half the time lol

Edited by: The Anointed on 19/09/2005 22:11:53 the most fun i have had in belts was waiting in a 0.3 in a thorax with mining drones out. Youd be suprised the amount of people that dont check your actually mining before coming within web/scram range.
I dont find camping gates that great tbh, webbing and scrambling soemone in a belt while you orbit them and spam local with 'yarrr' is far more entertaining.

Gate camping is very boring, when done in 0.0 even more so. Occasionally you'll get some good profitable kills but ultimately its just you sitting there killing a couple of ships for not much profit until a massive force comes through.
Empire camping is more fun, if you have quite a few battleships you can kill hundreds in a few hours as they come in and out. Then someone comes in with about the same sized force, with sentries helping them, and they don't have to tank and you get owned. If you're smart, you put a scout no the other side and watch for any big force coming through. This can be very very profitable. Even though you're killing hundreds of ships, ctrl+click F1-F7 does get old.
Both are pretty boring, which is why I don't like to do it.
Belt piracy 4tw! As far as that goes, I'll chase a target I want anywhere but to a station or gate, because I dislike getting CONCORDOKENED!!!
