I saw a film called Ishtar on TV so I thought i'd google a few ship names. This is what i found.
Ishtar Ishtar was the ancient Sumero-Babylonian goddess of love and fertility.
Deimos Deimos ("DEE mos") is the smaller and outermost of Mars' two moons. It is one of the smallest known moons in the solar system In Greek mythology, Deimos is one of the sons of Ares (Mars) and Aphrodite (Venus); "deimos" is Greek for "panic".
Helios Helios is the young Greek god of the sun.
Ishkur A Sumerian god of storms and rain.
Harpy "Robbers". In earlier versions of Greek myth, Harpies were described as beautiful, winged maidens. Later they became winged monsters with the face of an ugly old woman and equipped with crooked, sharp talons.
Mastodon Mastodon, an extinct Ice Age animal that looked like a furry elephant.
I'm sure there a loads of others, but there you go.
Enjoy

Enyo Goddess of War, Blood and Violence - not surprising as she's a close relative of War God ARES. It must run in the family. Although no-one is quite sure whether she's his wife, daughter or sister. (When the Romans adopted her under the name BELLONA things were just as confusing.)
Her best friend is ERIS and she's also one of the GRAEAE sisters (perhaps an honorary member?). In short, ENYO is horrid and horrible and best avoided unless you enjoy that kind of thing.
Incursus Latin incursus an attack, assault / efforts, impulses.
Tristan Tristan was a Cornish hero from folklore, and one of the Knights of the Round Table whose story is told in the Matter of Britain. He was the nephew of King Mark of Cornwall, sent to fetch Isolde back from Ireland to wed the king. However, they fall in love en route (perhaps under the influence of a love potion meant for Isolde and Mark), and Tristan fights off a series of attempts to take Isolde back.
Taranis "Thunder". The thunder-god of ancient Gaul, and master of the sky. He may be compared to the Roman Jupiter, although his place in the Celtic pantheon was not as prominent as that of Jupiter in the Roman pantheon. His attribute is the wheel, which could be the symbol of thunder. The Romans described as receiving human sacrifices.
Aresp Ares, the Greek god of war, is tall and handsome, but vain and as cruel as his brother Hephaestus was kind. His sister Eris, the goddess of strife, is his constant companion, but he is also attended by his sons Deimos and Phobos, as well as Enyo, an old war-goddess.
I'm sure many of you knew the last one, but threw it in there anyway. Seems like most of the other gallente ships (that I could think of anyway) only bring up links to eve-o or a company of the same name. I've always thought about doing this, but never actually did until now.

"Cerberus" Cerberus was a vicious beast that guarded the entrance to Hades and kept the living from entering the world of the dead. According to Apollodorus, Cerberus was a strange mixture of creatures: he had three heads of wild dogs, a dragon or serpent for a tail, and heads of snakes all over his back. Hesiod, though, says that Cerberus had fifty heads and devoured raw flesh. Cerberus' parents were the monster Echinda (half-woman, half-serpent) and Typhon (a fire-breathing giant covered with dragons and serpents). Even the gods of Olympus were afraid of Typhon.

I think it's Ishtar that also means Star of the North or something similar.. read it somewhere recently.
Meh, most EVE ship names are pretty obvious and self explanatory, pretty sure i've known what a Mastadon is since i was like.. 8.. heh It's also a pretty obvious but maybe unimaginative succession to the ships little sister, the Mammoth :P
I prefer the names based upon gods or celestial objects (often the same thing) mostly because its appropriate to the idea of pod pilots and their ships... ---

Succubus is a mythogoly creature, a demon I think, that looks like a beautiful young woman and seduces men to drain their lifeforce.
Despite the name, I dont think there is an sucking involved (but I might be wrong)

Bhaalgorn
Quote:
Bhaal, Lord of Murder, is a fictional deity of the Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, created by Ed Greenwood. The name Bhaal is almost certainly derivative of Baal.
One of the Dead Three, Bhaal was originally a mortal, who along with Bane and Myrkul took the portfolios of the ancient deity Jergal. Bhaal was god of death, especially violent or ritual death.
Bhaal features prominently in the following Forgotten Realms novels: Darkwalker on Moonshae, Black Wizards and Darkwell, by Douglas Niles; Shadowdale, Tantras and Waterdeep, by Scott Ciencin and Troy Denning; and the novelizations of the computer role-playing games Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, by Philip Athans.

Not true.
Naglfar is the ship built by the sons of Surtur, the fire giant who will burn the world come Ragnar÷k (doom of the gods).
It is made from the nails of the dead, hence all those who wish to delay Ragnar÷k will cut the nails of the dead before burying/burning them, thus taking away from the materials used to build this herald of the apocalypse.
When it is finished, it will carry Surtur and his armies across the great sea to the land of men, after which they will burn the land, and then wage war on the µgir themselves, and defeat them.
Very fitting name for a dreadnaught.
Respect the Domi. Or else. |

Actually I think Megathron is a translation error from Megtherion, or megatherion, or megthereon...etc
I'm sure I've heard the term before and it fits, but without the proper spelling I can't find the exact history.

Megatherion
Afaik greek "theri" means beast, thus giant beast.
(I mean you can be glad no ship got called nubbler.)
