Been playing for a almost a month now and sofar I'm having fun. Can't wait to venture into <.5 space but before that: train, gather ISK (need a buffer because I am going to lose ships in <.5 space), train more, practice, practice some more, find a nice corp etc.
Now I've seen posts and so about elite ships and even variants of ships like the cormorant MK2. What are those ships? Player made or corporation made or only available (buyable) in 0.0 space. Can not see them in the market view and rarely see them in escrow. What are the differences (except ISK)?
Hope someone can answer this.

Elite Ships are the Tech level II versions of the normal ships. They are more specialized versions of their Tech I counterparts.
The tech II frigates for example split into 4 groups.
Interceptors (very fast, high firepower, fragile) Assault Ships (high resistances, hig firepower) Covert Operations (can warp cloaked (yeah)) Stealth Bombers (can mount cruise missle launchers)
these ships are quite difficult to manufacture and in high demand. So theyre quite expensive.
Use the Item Database to compare the stats of TechII ships and their TechI counterparts.

Edited by: Deja Thoris on 20/09/2005 11:57:28 MKII and tech 2 are different
T2 is as posted above.
MKII is a project by CCP to change the roles of ships slightly. It involves tweaking the stats of t1 frigs and cruisers.
See here for MKII

the cormorant MK2 to my Knowledge is not in game yet (altho if it is someone correct me) and if it was it would be a tech 2 destroyer, Tech 2 items ships or mods r all player built, so the only place u would find them is on the market or or on escrow,
if u want to go in to low sec space i would advice that u find a corp that lives out there, my advice to u if u r going to go it alone is train up ur frig skills and click here for ship setup advice, try and focus all ur training on one race of frig and type of weapon (turret or missiles). if u do want to go low sec, them move on to another frig or possible a cruiser, also train up ur learning skill they will help learn skills fast, and maybe even put some atribute impants in for even faster training, but if u do want to go low sec only put +1 or +2 implants in,
no doubt someone will tell u something different and what i have put is a pile of poo but this is my opinion from what i know of the game and the lew sec life

Cool, thanks for the answers. Couldn't find the elites in the item database before but that was because I did not know what to look for. Oh, and ihate thisgame, thanks for the advice, I plan on following it (wasn't planning on going into lower then .4 for the next few month anyhow).

I thought .05 space was safe. Why would you lose ships there?

because the original poster is talking about going into systems below 0.5
and those are easily filled with pirates nowadays
