Believe me, there will much rejoicing on the last page(s) of this thread if and when CCP actually announces anything :) http://dogfacedesign.com: EVE-Related Art House |

Thanks for sharing!
This is definitely a good sign - not sure it means a baby step towards having high-res 4K textures for ships and other in-game models, but it is definitely a sign that CCP is looking to the future in terms of graphics/rendering.
Keeping my fingers crossed! :D http://dogfacedesign.com: EVE-Related Art House |

Hey all - thanks for all the input in this thread!
I just want to clarify that while we have higher resolution textures for our ships, delivering them to you is not as trivial as putting the files on the interwebs and be done. We are looking into how to best do this, and we are not holding back because we think no-one wants this! It is just not trivial to do, and we need to both investigate and weigh various options for how to deliver it, that require involvement from multiple aspects of how we develop EVE - such as the rendering engine, game settings, launcher and server operations.
We have heard you loud and clear though that this is something players would appreciate - and we are investigating if we can do it and when. YouGÇÖll see a devblog about it if we decide to go ahead.

Seagull - thanks for chiming in! Glad to hear that CCP is looking seriously at this.
As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, releasing the textures outside of the game, in a stand-alone bundle, for creators of fan-art/content would be a great baby step, and would require far less effort... just sayin' :)
Cheers. http://dogfacedesign.com: EVE-Related Art House |

Hi CCP Seagull. A strategy to limit bandwidth would be to selectively download high-res textures; perhaps trigger the download for a particular hull when I board that ship; and when I show info and click the preview icon for a ship.
I'm sure you have concerns other than bandwidth for rolling this out, but I for one would be satisfied with being able to zoom into my own ship and see it in high resolution. Other players' ships would fall back to standard textures if the appropriate high res texture was not downloaded. Little Things to improve GëíGďüGëí-á| My Little Things posts |

crap, looks like I'll be relegated to the "Classic" client this time around... least until after tax rebates next year.

While you're thinking about this please could you consider having an option to download the highres textures in batches? There are still parts of the world where people have monthly bandwidth caps (fairly low ones), so the ability to download them bit by bit over a period of time would be greatly appreciated. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm curious, do you have high res textures for other assets such as Nebula and stations? "The American Government indoctrination system known as public education has been relentlessly churning out socialists for over 20 years". - TravisWB |

Question:
Would such an optional thing also perhaps include by-constellation nebula changes? That would be absolutely fantastic and improve immersion even more. |
