I thought this was pretty cool. This is the first time I'd ever seen EvE advertised during my daily web-travels.

Edited by: Zeb Carter on 28/09/2005 22:13:10 As an active lurker of the Penny Arcade forums and avid Penny Arcade fan, I can tell you that Eve has been advertised there for several months, possibly even as far back as pre-exodus.
They also have a somewhat nicer looking sidebar advertisement that runs on the main page occasionally.
Additionally, there is an active Penny Arcade corp within Eve known as "The Merch" and if you have access to the Penny Arcade forums there are several large Eve threads there which make an interesting read if you like to hear about what nubs think of Eve and the learning experience it entails.
EDIT: Also - Penny Arcade 4tw! _____________

That penny arcade is the one advertising EVE not CCP.
Websites advertise stuff all the time to make a few dimes and that's about it too.
If someone clicks the link on penny arcade and eventually join EVE then penny arcade probably get a couple bucks from CCP.
It's called an Affiliate program.

Dude, EVE-Files is starved for bandwidth. Posting a 1 megabyte BMP file on the general discussion is just stupid. That file alone probably will halve our download speeds until this thread drops off the front page.
If you're going to post giant images because you're too lazy to compress them, use ImageShack.

CCP would be paying Penny Arcade a few cents per click, that is how affiliates work. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

Edited by: Istvaan Shogaatsu on 29/09/2005 00:44:02 I'm gonna see what I can do about some advertising of my own.
I discovered an interesting phenomenon regarding the website www.fark.com - chiefly, that it is regularly trawled by reporters from CNN and the BBC's tech sections. Any time something major relating to computer gaming or the internet appears on Fark, it's very likely to be picked up by CNN or BBC the next day. I figure if I can get an article about my corp's heist on Fark, it'll stand a decent chance of getting to a major news outlet.
Let's see what I can do about making that '20k users' thing a reality ;)

Isn't that called Adsence? :) But I'm sure at least what I was talking about is ONE type of Affiliate program though.
Then there is Pay per click.
Anyways it was someware on this website, you know the picture of the two hands shaking?

Getting that kind of thing posted to fark would be very, very hard.
Its just not the kind of news that usually comes up... though with a good headline you might get it posted.
You'd basically have to have a funny/witty headline, thats your only real chance over there. -- Proud member of the [23].

What I can't understand, is why would EVE be advertising? It can not even handle the current player amount :(

It doesn't matter what I do or not. Read the dev blog:

EVE Can't handle the current player amount, It's a fact. Now why would they PAY to get even more server load?

More players = more money so if there are 100k users ideally they will be able to upgrade the hardware after 10 years of collecting and saving subscriptions _________________________________ God is always on the side with the best artillery. |

actually I think it's more like "more SUBSCRIPTIONS = more RL isks" Those trials aren't going to change into paying accounts, if the game doesn't work. Ok, maybe I'm too naive, and hope that they would try to keep server capacity on par with player amounts. Ofc, they would like to have ONE MILLOIN DOLLA.. uh I mean players, even if the servers could handle only 10k players at once like they do now. (So that everyone could still play) But ranting about it makes me feel better. Everyone has the rigth of my opinion.

p.s. Shikari, check in-game.
I check fark regularly. You'll get into the que for totalfark, but never make the mainpage.
Unless you wipe out NAGA. Then maybe.
PS: When you do, can I get a t2 bpo for the idea? ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |
