Don't be alarmed - I have no plans of discontinuing the EVE-Files service.
Now that it has been said I can get down to the real issues. (WARNING! Long post ahead!)
EVE-Files is currently heavily loaded, the traffic and use of it has gone way above my imagination - and I cannot see any reason why it would go down or even stay, I belive that it will keep growing.
With that in mind I will need to take actions before it is too late.
The average bandwidth usage (currently) is around 150+GB/day with peaks of 200+GB/day on new video releases, patchdays, etc.
It is a lot of traffic and a lot of resources needed. Currently I have no issues with the bandwidth, however computer resources are beginning to look dark.
Therefor I will need to start moving older files to an archive server on another connection and server.
Why you ask? - Well simply because I have a feeling that the load and userbase of EVE-Files will grow rapidly shortly and I do not want to be caught with my pants down when it happends, and I doubt you want that either since all your precious signatures must be shown at all time
This change should hopefully not affect you except maybe speed-wise for some of your files (of course files can be moved between the servers for better performance).
There should hopefully not be any need of changing URLs since I think I got that covered to automaticly redirect archived files to the archive server.
So to summarize this - EVE-Files will not close, it will archive some files to another server to be able to perform its services to 100%.
--------
Now over to the call for help.
You're asking for money right? No but anyone willing to donate money for the service is most appriciated since running this if free for you but not for me, I always have the cost of internet connection and hardware to think of.
But this is not the main point, as EVE-Files grow, more and more people become aware of its precense and of course that results in files being saved onto EVE-Files that are not generally EVE-related.
And even though there is no real problem of this - it is not in the line of what I created the service for (as I said many times *rabble*rabble*rabble).
I have many projects running and very little time, so I am now looking for a few people that are willing to help out with monitoring content being uploaded, and on those cases where it has no relation to EVE - remove them.
What do you get in return? Well actually nothing really, but of course you can always ask for something and I will see if I can get it for you.
So if you are interested let me know. I will not accept everyone interested as it would give me more job as well but I am sure that some of you that I talked to in-game are very suitable and trustworthy to do this.
I most likely forgot to say something... but I just dunno what right now
Finally, thank you to everyone using my service!
Now gimme all those donations that makes me a rich carebear!
Fly safe! /c

I suggest that you make a deadline for all eve-files users to remove all not neccessary files. After that, the volunteers go through the files and remove whats left of non-eve related stuff. This will make things easier for you with that backup server.
Btw, where do I sign in for this volunteering Ö |

with that kind of bandwith u are getting hell of alot of hits on ur site.
Why not use commercials in it,, "Im not good on this internet stuff", But i guess there some company out there, "dubbleclick for example". So if someone starts downloading someitng they also gonna get a pop up or what ever,, Someitng that funds u even more,, iknow i can survie with some banners or what ever on eve-files.com.. And who knows u even cane make a couple coins on it.
Either way, keep the great work up =) _________________ http://asuya.eve-killboard.net/ |

Man, 200gb/day, nice amount of traffic you get there :)
Anyways, im up for helping out with the content monitoring, and possibly even help you out a bit with your hosting problems, send me an eve-mail with your MSN/ICQ/whatever you use, so we can talk.

i've seen a script before, where you had to click a button, which opened a popup-ad, before you actually could download the file you wanted. i normally don't like stuff like that myself, but i think everyone of the eve community would understand if you implemented such a thing.

Hell, I noted you down then :)
As for ads, it is a way but not a way I want to use (any longer) and even though I have a lot of bandwidth and many hits, not all come through the main page since many are direct links to the files.
So I will keep off the ads and try to rely on donations and my own money hehe.
If only my ISP would take pay in ISK there wouldn't be any issue.

Its truly amasing work you are doing for the EVE community and i hope it can continue for many years
Im also quite sure that alot of peeps will chip in with some cash so you can keep it running. Also with that amount of traffic there must be some companies there is willing to pay for ads.. Also maybe write a nice letter so CCP and ask for a little support

I would like to thank Chribba for actually putting up eve files. It's huge and frankly I'm amazed at how he does it. So thank you Chribba for setting up eve files.
Unfortunately I can't really help because I'm a poor underage kid who can barely pay for eve. And I don't really have any knowledge of servers and stuff. :(

Chribba, i'm pretty sure you could help your site by setting a bittorrent server. Never though of it? _______________________ Forums DSU |

Brrr... bittorrent ;) Even setting up a BT server wouldn't stop the material from being located on the server as I would run a client as well.
Plus I think it's easier with a site rather than having people to mess around with a BT client etc. But of course it is an excellent way of distributing the files (movies) in case of the lack of hosting on the server.

I think bittorrent could be a good idea, the EVE community is obviously very good at helping eachother out, I would certainly leave the client running so others could share files like movies.
Chribba, you rock my world, the EVE Movies community wouldn't exist without the work you do.

The guideline... hehe some of you asked this.
How EVE related does it has to be? For example someone uploads pictures of him/her-self and you can't relate it to EVE -> to the trash. As we have no certain way of telling it is EVE or not, remove it.
In case of errors I am sure a post will be posted here and so I can put back the files if needed.
I know Quam is uploading pictures of players, I first removed those and after getting it pointed out that it was actually EVE players they are now ok to upload.
Generally pictures uploaded to the public archives 01-12 that cannot be related goes to trash right away, if they get upped to a private folder, can you relate the ticker (name) to a corp/person, then they are most likely related to EVE.
If uncertain you decide to remove or not, maybe you leave them and I remove them etc either way I think it will work out good.
Thank you!
