Dear Members..
If anyone can help me with this problem I would great appreciate it. I keep losing my damn BM folders! Thats right. I log out and then back in again a day later and BAM I am staring at people and places with all my bms in the root folder and no folders.
I tried this: "Go to \CCP\EVE\cache\ folder
Copy the Settings folder and the prefs.ini file to a safe location then copy them back after."
With no luck as it doesnt make a differance. It just moves the BMs back into that folder with no sub folders. I have petitioned for this ingame but my petitions get deleted after getting some autoreply from ccp. Can you please suggest something? It happens randomy and has happened for the 5th time now and it takes hours to sort them back into their folders.
Thanks

There are three possibilities why it does not work for you: 1. After sorting all your bookmarks, you immediately close your client with the windows close button (not ESC menu). In this case the client does not store your settings. You either wait for 2 minutes or close the client using the ESC menu.
2. Something in your config is not correct. In this case, you should remove your cache/settings folder and build up your bookmarks tree again.
3. The client has no write access to the settings file. Please check this.

Make sure the time and date is set correctly on your PC. I never noticed that it was set to 1 month in advance and none of my settings or prefs were saved. After windows being reinstalled a few times and messing around with admin rights etc it turned out to be something as simple as that. It was only after loads of emails to and from the Devs that they suggested it and I still have no idea to this day why the time setting on my comp had changed.

Nope. i always use escape although I do crash once in a while and it doesnt happen then. Its totally random. I move all BMS into folders and it works for a few days and then suddenly I either esc or crash to dt (does it both times) and it happens. totally random, though mostly happens during a CTD.

As mentioned above I have tried this several times. No improvement. I have even tried backing up old cache folders and starting from scratch. Works for a few days then bamm happens again.

Play logged on as admin. checked permissions and all fine. If this was the case it would always happen.
Checked that link but it seems irrelevant.
Also checked date as suggested and its spot on correct.
Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate it but still no fix :(

some further hints on what happens
My cache seems ok, I can see the pictures of peoples profiles still. I still have 90% of my settings like my colour scheme and my layout etc. Things that do reset are:
1: Middle mouse toggle (you know that annoying circular menu) turns back on. 2: Screen res changes to 1024x768 (its set to higher) 3: The warnings come back (are you sure you wish to shoot this person etc etc) 4: My overview loses its settings.
If i copy my backed up cache folder and overwrite the corrupted one everything goes back to normal but the folders are still not there.

I had a similar problem last week.
I had a number of BM folders set up for a couple of months or so, then one day I logged on and all the folders were gone, and I was left with a solid mass of 3500 BM's
I hadnt touched anything like my cache folders etc, in fact im pretty sure I hadnt physically done anything else on the computer between logging off the night before and logging on to find them gone.
No folders = pain in the arse.

I am assuming that C:\Program Files\CCP1\EVE\cache\Settings is the location for bookmark folders, hiding in the machine code of the dat files? If this was the case I would back up the user_yoursid#.dat file and client yoursid#[/i].dat file if you have heaps of bm's. Preferrably before they become corrupt ;)
