I had a dream, a dream about Warp engines that looks like real (well in my dream at least) :)
1. i asked one question, how warp engine would work and i imagine that someone on board of spaceship is commanding 'warp drive active' then someone is pressing big red button, then engines starts whole procedure of generating warp field around ship, ship alignes and when everything is ready -> boom hes gone.
2. i asked second question, how someone could hold spacship from question one to not warp away? Well... disrupt his warp field yes? but after disrupting that field, ship one can recalibrate warp field and be able to run...
3. I asked third question, how ship from question one could defend against warp field destabilizer? Well, using famous warp core stabilizers, but how? Whoever heard about some strange points? Its bad idea and not real life idea. In real life warp core stabilizers would hold integrity of warp field stronger then normal warp engine so creating warp field takes less time...
4. Fourth question i asked is how to convert those ideas into game. After sleepless night i fought about this:
1. Ability to enter warp. Now it looks like this: get to 75% of top speed and of you go. If you are moving towards your destination at top speed you warp instantly. My proposition: After pressing 'warp' button you need some time for warp field to calibrate and speed to warp away (lets say 20 secs). Every warp core stabilizer decreases this time (please dont yell yet, that everyone will have wcs's)
2. Ability to scramble someone. Now it looks like this: tackler has x points of warp scramble, if tackled ship has x+1 warp strenght he is safe. This is bad. My proposition: warp scramblers can be activated only once per tackler. if activated on target, they increase time for warp field to calibrate. As you remember, wcs's are keeping warp field, so in game they decrease this time. If you have multiple tacklers, each tackler gives more time. second thing that just come to my mind is to create six versions of warp scramblers: 1. long range frigate module 2. short range frigate module 3. long range crusier module 4. short range cruiser module 5. long range bs module 6. short range bs module frigate modules are more powerfull then bs module, but bs module has much much greater range.
3. Warp core stabilizers. To make it all work, they must be in high slot. My another idea is they must be activated and eat alot of cap. Basically if u see that you are tackled, you activate wcs, your cap drops fast so ur fighting abilites drop but u can run away after few seconds.
