YARRRRRRR!(practice)
Hello, my name is Zarithas and I just got the game last Sunday. Since the beginning, i've always wanted to be a pirate. In other MMORPGs, WoW for example, if you die you lose nothing. You just run back to your corpse, or res at a spirit healer with gear damaged and a 7 minute sickness, and your gear cannot even be destroyed, at 0% you just repair it again and it's fine.
In EVE, when you die, you actually die. Your ship is gone, the modules on it are either destroyed or jettisoned into space to be picked up by the person who killed you (unless it was a rat), and if that isn't bad enough, you can get killed while in your pod, losing all implants and coming back as a clone.
By the way, I have a quick question that sort of doesn't involve this thread, but anyway... Has there ever been a time when a person forgot to upgrade their clone after being podded, and lost all of their skills? Maybe they went to pick up their jettisoned stuff and thought they upgraded, but actually didn't. I am asking if there has ever been a big post about that happening to someone.
That gives PvP a meaning, a real reason to kill someone else. Getting your ship blown up or being podded isn't just something that takes 2 minutes out of your day (like WoW) you have to pick up your jettisoned modules, and buy everything that was destroyed again.
PvP has a reason, and I want to be very involved in it, by being a pirate. A few questions are, what should I be doing as a newbie to become a good pirate over time? Obviously, I am not going to go up to someone in 0.4 space as a week-old newb in a Kestrel with below average turrets and a Civ shield booster (other shield boosters takes too much power grid/cpu).
Any input would be great, and any pirate willing to take me under their wing would be awesome.

this sticky at the top of this forum contains a lot of handy hints that you should read through: i have written a (albeit slightly out of date: pre missile changes) beginner's guide to piracy taken from my own experience (over a year ago i began; recently left my pirate roots behind for now to pursue the career of a mercenary)
It should give you the basic idea of what to do and what nto to do. The good thing is, however, that you actually CAN go out in your kestrel and do some damage: if you find the right target, like a miner for example.
Piracy is a very difficult career choice in eve, and i wish you the very best of luck. If you want some more in depth help feel free to send me a mail or open a convo with me in game

when you get podded with no clone, you dont actually go all the way back to amount covered by a basic clone.
It takes a good wack off your SP thats for sure... Somewhere under 10% I believe. __________________

Edited by: spRAYed on 10/10/2005 11:26:36 Happend to me once,
I just got tech II large blasters and podded myself in 0.0 cuz i couldn't be asked to fly all the way :D , but guess what...my clone didn't cover all my SP!
I think it takes the longest trained skill, and nocks of the lvl 5. That was lvl 5 Large Hybrid in this case...but it only took 3 days to learn that back to 100%
Funny: When i lost that skill, i could still use tech II large blasters....*pokes CCP* -----------------------------------------

The people who lost months of training usually keep it quiet except for the I QUIT EVE posts.

convo me sometime ingame and maybe my corp can help teach you a thing or two...although its good to have about 1mill SP before you really start pirating...just stick to flying small, cheap frigates first (i see you're caldari...kestrel with rockets would be an excellent ship for you)
when you have enough SP, you might be able to join our corp, but until then, i can still give you training myself _________________________________________ 2005.01.17 22:04:22 combat Chackle [PUSY] perfectly runs from you, wrecking for 1500 cowardice. |

You might want to look up Origns of Shadows ingame.
we are a small pirate corp, who don't mind taking on n00bs.

Wow, it seems as though everyone just skipped to the part where I asked what happens if you don't upgrade your clone. Thanks for telling me that anyway though.
Oh yeah, yesterday the CEO of a pirate corp specialized in frigates taking higher ships on, they're really great and have 45 members. Thanks for all the other offers, though.

You have a pretty special kessie if you can put turrets on there - if I remember correctly, it has 5 missile hardpoints and 0 turret hardpoints.
As for becoming a pirate, I honestly have no idea. Choose a certain type of weapon you want to use so that you can specialize in it and make it strong. Choose a ship in advance. Train for it. Strategize and get obsessed with ship setups.
Or something like that.

Kestrel's got 4 missile hardpoints. 5 would be totally sweet though.

Be a topnotch frig pilot first, and also join a corp that does PvP. dont lose sec status if you do you will have to grind and be stuck in places with crappy markets. There is plenty of PvP in 0.0 and remember empire wars means no sec loss.

Bah, now I just remembered. Pffft killed me the other dya, I was afk on auto-pilot to pick up something, and I didn't know I was going to go through 0.3-4 space. I went to check the game, and I was dead as a clone, killmail said that pffft killed then podded me. Good thing I was in a cheapo ship though, barely carrying anything. I'll get revenge one day...

i trained over the max of my clone and didn't realize a little while back. had finished training med hybrid 5 and started gallente cruiser lvl 5. got podded 3 days before cruiser 5 finished and lost alot of hybrid 5 (12+days) didn't learn from my mistake and lost my clone again right when hybrid 5 finished training and lost 21 days on cruiser 5....longest month training in my career of eve...lesson: drugs helps dull the pain
but yeh...on topic, piracy is fun...did that for about a year ____________________ |

Now wait a minute... When u get podded, u have to BUY another clone again? U don't get automatically another clone of the same type of the one have respawned in? ______________________________________________ The ShadowMaster -

Negativo, hombre. Must buy a new clone each time. Make sure you keep it updated.
