Let's call this server "Serenity" for now. I like the name as it reminds me of the movie. If you notice the Firefly universe, the main civilized portion of humanity, mainly the Alliance, uses a mix of English and Chinese for its language. The crew of Firefly gets away with any restricted rating by cursing in Cantonese. And if you notice the ship Serenity herself, she has Chinese symbols all over her, implying such was the nature of her construction and her original ownership.
From the way I read it, it is guaranteed that in Serenity, there is going to be a different story and a different race or races. Somehow the Amarr, Minmatar, Gallente and Caldari paradigm feels politically incorrect, even in the ideological moods in the US, for various reasons that you all know and felt but don't want to create a ruckus by discussing it in the boards.
The Serenity race (or empire) would have to be PC for the Chinese and its goverment, and should not reflect unapproved things like seperatist and imperialist thought. Do you see seperatist and imperialist thought in the current EVE background story?
It might also be better if the Serenity race is a faction that the Chinese could identify with both culturally and historically. I'm not saying putting an empire in space inspired of the old Chinese imperial dynasties such as in Richard Wingrove's Chung Guo books---that would be even more un-PC and **** of the Chinese government more, considering how the Chinese have been trying to get away from that stereotype mode of government for the last century or so.
I don't know how CCP can do that---creating the new faction and its backstory, with its unique technologies, ships, classes and economics. But it will be a challenge and it would be interesting. So long the new Serenity faction does not remind the people of the old imperial dynasties, the Kuomintang under Chiang Kai Sek, or the totalitarian China under Mao, which is very different from today. Nothing that also seems reminscient or remind people of foreign imperialistic aggressors or portrays Chinese or foreign people in a stereotype mode.
