How would you set up a ferox for Lvl 3 missions and for pvp/low sec mining.

High: 2 x 250 Compressed Coil Guns (if U have ISK the Prototype) 2 x Arbalest Assault Launchers 2 x Heavy (Advanced) launchers (if U have ISK the Arbalests) 1 x Medium Proton Smartie
Medium: 1 x 10mn Afterburner T2 1 x Thermal Shield Hardener (or Med Shield Booster T2) 1 x ECM Jammer (the 7.2 version) 1 x Target Painter T2 1 x Signal Amplifier
Low: 1 x Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer 1 1 x Fourier Tracking Enhancer 2 x Reactor Control Unit 1 (or mayby just one but T2)
Iron/Antimatter Ammo, Thermal Missiles and Hammerheads.
The most important thing in this ship are the pilot's skills, U'll need some more than let's say a ship that uses guns only and no missiles or EW.For example U'll be using only two guns and their loaded with iron charges so U will need some extra damage output unless U want to poke and tickle the enemy to death, same thing with missiles.
Range and electrotoys are r friend on this one and the shield makes U wonder what the armor is for (dead weight).
Your combat range is 100km, lockdown, paintjob and M82's Evil or Very Mad. They start heading towards you, at 60 km 2 heavy's, at 30 2 light missiles, within 20km Hammerheads and the last ones the smartbomb.

Edit : This is for lvl3's, mining no good idea, has a cargospace the size of an empty pack of smokes and with PvP I can't help U (yet 'course, I would if I could).

O.o thats the wierdest ferox setup ive ever seen for missioning.
i quite like:
4 250mm rails, 3 assault launchers 10mn ab, large shield booster, 3 hardeners OR 2 hards + amp pdu II/magstabs
If i had better missile/drone skills (and an mk2 ferox) id drop an assault for another 250mm rail. -------------

Edited by: Youlla on 14/10/2005 16:48:52 My Ferox setup for level 3 agent missions is something like:
Hi: 5x250mm Prototype Gauss Railguns, 2xSV-2000 Assault Missile Bay
Med: 1xMed Shield Booster 2, 1x10MN AB 2, 2xSheild Hardeners (rat specific), 1x Med Sheild Extender 2
Low: 4xPDU II
4x Med Scout Drones (would be 5, but I don't have the skills yet).
I've got a little over 3mil Skill Points, mostly in Engineering, Gunnery, Spaceship Command and Learning.
Haven't had any trouble tanking most missions. I solo Guristas Extravaganza and Spy Stash regularly.
Doubt it would be as good for PVP though.

This setup is very nice, i'd suggest the following for PvE: High: 5x250mm rails(best u can afford), 2x heavy or assault launchers. Mid: Medium T2 Shield Booster, 2x rat specific hardeners, web (best u can afford), boost amp Low: 4x PDU II Ammo: Iridium / Antimatter Missiles: rat specific. Drones: 5x rat specific medium drones. This can run all lvl3 missions... (at least i have done all). About the missile launchers... if your gunnery skills really suck, go with the assaults... otherwise use heavies for added dps against cruisers, and use web to web anything that comes close... you'll hit it just fine. Frigs will be one-shots at 60km range... and you have drones for them when they're close.
PvP: Now this becomes very interesting, as you have loads of medslots :) And most people go like "hah, ferox, he's a noob, let's take him last" in a group engagement. There's multiple slot configs, you can use them in any combination :) High 1: 5x assault launchers, 2x 150mm II rails (ouch for inties :)). High 2: 5x 250mm rails, 2x assaults. High 3: 5x Medium Neutron Blasters, 2x NOS.
Mid 1: AB, 3x Multispectral T2 jammers, 20km scram Mid 2: AB, Web, 2x Tracking Disruptors, 20km scram Mid 3: MWD, 3x Multispectral t2 jammers, 20km scram
Low 1: 1600mm plate, armor hardeners(expl/kin or expl/adaptive nano II), medium t2 armor rep. Low 2: Magstabs/1600mm plate Low 3: Magstabs/PDU II's Low 4: PDU II's or RCU II/1600mm plate/med armor rep And note, you can use all things in all combinations with eachother... some won't fit tho... but it's to give you a general idea... Ferox is very versatile with it's 5 midslots, so use and abuse that fact ;) __________________________________________ All about target jamming... |

Just bought a ferox:
High 3x 250mm Prototype Gauss guns (with Antimatter) 2x Assault launchers 2x Malkuth heavy launchers
Med 1x Large regolith shield extender 3x Shield rechargers 1x Medium shield booster II
Low 4x Power Diagnostic unit IIs
Works fine on all level 3 missions I have tried. I had the spy stash as the first mission and i didn't know if my ship could take it, so i had help with it, but I'm sure now it could solo it.

I hate active stuff, i much prefer to passive tank. Those rechargers give me a recharge time of 388 seconds for a 5640 something shield.

"How would you set up a ferox for Lvl 3 missions and for pvp/low sec mining."
For running missions semi-afk:
2x 200mm railgun II, 3x named assault launcher, 2x named heavy launcher 2x large shield expander II, 2x named rat-specific hardener, 1x small shield booster II 4x power diag II
nearly 10k of shield, and the rats don't seem to do enough damage to get it down more than 2-3k in the 'toughest' missions, even if you just sit there taking the beating and not bothering to maneuver at all... so the booster is mostly for show :/

Which is unhardened shield, and you will never be able to tank spy stash with it... If you want passive shieldtank, go with j0sephine's setup, it's quite decent :) __________________________________________ All about target jamming... |

Edited by: M3ta7h3ad on 16/10/2005 11:02:29 How's my setup and would it stand a chance against a taranis?
5x 200mm rails 2x standard launchers (bloodclaws)
1 Medium CL-5 thingy Shield booster 1 AB I 2 Stasis Webs 1 Medium Cap
2 Warp Stabs (I travel through 0.0 in it quite a bit, and dont really want to fight pvp except against war targets such as this taranis bloke) 1 PDU 1 something I cant remember, think its an armour rep. (im not at my machine right now)
Oh and 4 HammerHead I's for drone complement.
Just I had the chance to go after an Intie (taranis) yesterday, instead I ran :) But yeah... would be nice to know if I was able to combat it.

My PvE set up. I use it like a passive tank - I turn on the hardners and rechargers at the start of a mission and never turn them off.
High 3 assult launchers 2 heavy missle launchers 2 150 turrets(small)
Med 2 active hardners 2 larger shield extenders 1 small T2 shield booster
Low 1 BCU 3 PDS
Used as much named or T2 stuff as possible. This makes a super tank.

4x PDU's
set up was intending to get a large booster 2 on but i dunno anymore med + amp works well

Edited by: DarK on 16/10/2005 16:18:05 Ok a few things I'd like to point out.
Quote: My current ganking one:

This isn't too good for pvp. Firstly medium extenders are garbage, considering you haven't got any hardners on, let alone a shield booster. What are you trying to tank ?
Secondly, filling your lows with RCU's and CPU's to allow you to fit the rest of your slots isn't very effective. For a Ferox the only modules you'd want to be fitting are PDU's or Mag fields, unless you got some crazy specific setup, or are using mostly missiles on it.
Finally, medium shield boosters are High-end Frig/Low-end cruiser modules. The only use I can see them having are for a long range setup that doesn't take alot of damage, but even then for a long range setup it's probably better to go the EW/Snipe/etc way than tanking(depends on range). Using a medium on a Ferox is like using a small on a Moa, it won't do ****. The Ferox has a huge sig radius and will take ****loads of damage, you need a Large booster II. Alternatively you can do a semi-passive tank on it, in which case a small shield booster II is useful.

Ok, my new setup is:
High 3x250mm rails Still sorting out the rest
Medium 1xLarge shield extender 1xMedium shield extender 1xMedium shield booster II 1xExplosive resistance amplifier 1xEM resistance amplifier
Low 4xPDU IIs
I did have 2 large shield extenders but I ran out of powergrid to fit any decent weapons.

Using this mainly anti-frig Ferox platform for pvp as support
High : 5x Assault Launchers 2x Nos (think I may swap em for neutralizers)
Medium : 2x Large Shield Extenders 1x 20km Scrambler 1x EM active hard 1x Thermal active hard
Low : 4x PDU I
Gives a fair ammount of shield HP for being a bait, haven't tested it though extensively (j0s setup is good too)

I use the following. I never have any trouble with any of the level three missions.
High: 5x 250mm Railguns (I used compressed coil)-Iron and Antimatter Ammo 2x Assault Missile Launchers (Arbalest)-Bloodclaws
Mid: 1x 10mn Afterburner II 1x Medium Shield Booster II 3x Shield Hardener (I fight guristas, Kinetic, Thermal, EM)
Low: 3x Power Diagnostic Unit 1x Magnetic Flux Stabilizer (Linear flux)
5x Vespa Drones
I let the drones and the assault launchers take care of any close frigates, nail long range targets with iron, swap to AM when they get in range. I can practically fall asleep doing lvl 3's with this setup.

Just a question, is it interesting to replace one or two pdu2 by shield power relay t2 to have a better recharge rate?
this is my fit (if i find shield power t2 at the market :p ) : 5 X 'Arbalest' Assault Missile Launcher 2 X Dual 150mm Prototype I Gauss Gun
2 X Large Shield Extender II 2 X Active Hardener 1 X 10MN Afterburner II
3 X Shield Power Relay II 1 X Power Diagnostic System II
About 8K shield with a recharge of 278s
with 4 pdut2 i've got 9,4K shield with a recharge of 560s

Crossposted from missions forum ________________________________
A few setup/skill tips for you; these missions are very easy even in a BC (I was doing mine in a Cyclone - nowhere near as good as a ferox - at 800k sp, after some trial and error), so I wont bother explaining how to do thre missions to you. if you dont understand it tactically, then a thread won't help you :P (OP had 2m sp and was struggling with level 3s).
Tanking is the most important part of your setup, and ferox does it well; get yourself a decent tank. None of this needs to be T2 or even top end T1, just buy decent and what you can afford.
Highs 5x Med Rail 2x Assault Launcher
Meds Med Shield Booster Medium Shield Extender 2x Active Hardener (vs whatever you're fighting) Afterburner
Lows 3x PDU Magnetic Stab
+5 med drones. You should be able to use at least 3.
Rail big stuff quite happily, use your drones+assault on inties and frigs. Never be afraid to have two targets at a time. Use your transversal velocity column to know what you can hit and what you cant, and move yourself to make sure you have the lowest you can get.
That tank should be plenty big enough to take anything a level 3 mission can throw at you. _______________________________

"Just a question, is it interesting to replace one or two pdu2 by shield power relay t2 to have a better recharge rate?"
possibly yes, provided they're actually released ^^ and that their attributes will be like the ones listed in the database... e.g. if the grid bonus from them is removed, would probably be hard to fit rest of the gear (although Mk2 changes to both Ferox and shield extenders might be enough to offset that)

Mid large II shield booster 3 named hardners 1 reg f89 larger shield extendor
low- 5 x pduII's
