Edited by: Tzuki on 17/10/2005 22:46:54 The dates 15th and 16th October 2005 will surely go down in the annals of Eve history, for these are the dates that The Five have finally quit Cache space, defeated by a war that they had no ability or inclination to fight; A POS war.
Over the weekend billions of tonnes of equipment and ships have poured through the choke point of Konora and into empire space; their final destination unknown. Hypothesis as to their final destination range from being purely empire bound to reacquainting themselves with the old Curse Alliance capital, HLW. Sources close to the upper echelons of The Five governing council however suggest that the notion of a base is irrelevant and that The Five, now unfettered by any claims to sovereign territory are free to roam and kill where they will.
Many have seen this evacuation from Cache as a humiliating and crushing defeat and whilst most Five members are probably reticent to agree, defeated they surely are; but beaten? Probably not.
There is a great deal of frustration within Five society. One particular member of the five alliance who holds no official badge of office had this to offer, ôWe have been frustrated by an enemy exercising itÆs skill at sneaking in structures that artificially claim territory, we have been frustrated by an enemy who ultimately lacked presence in the territory they claim as their own.ö
Whether this over simplistic analysis is valid or not, it is telling that the massive removal of equipment from the Cache region could only be achieved by a force who has true control of the space in which they fly. During the exodus, it is estimated that 6 freighters and 3 dreadnoughts were moved to empire and back to the contested region during 3 separate sorties during this busy two day period. Furthermore, in excess of 200 hauler trips were made, countless battleships were relocated and the volume of cruiser and frigate flights has been without comparison and it begs the question whether the current criteria for space sovereignty is fundamentally flawed.
However the evacuation, did meet with potential disaster when a reported 70+ fleet of Phoenix Alliance and Forsaken Empire corporations looking for targets of opportunity - in an alliance they considered beaten - chanced along the same route as a multi-billion ISK convoy. However, despite such a large task force, the opportunistic coalition of alliances passed straight over the operation to move three freighters and 20 haulers of equipment toward Konora.
A pilot who was involved in the massive logistical operation to move the logistical force into empire reflected on Saturday nights events, ô Aww, man! We had like three freighters full of stuff and then we hear from forward scouts that a 70+ fleet of PA and FE were headed our way. Well, we thought the game was up! We moved the freighters to a mid warp safe spot and we formed our escorting fleet up around them. Sure enough PA/FE jump in and theyÆre like in the system for what seems forever. We was sure that the accompanying Covert ops for the enemy had seen us and were tracking us down. We kept scanning, looking for tell-tale probe signatures but none were seen. And then we see them appear on our Overview HUD as they passed over us in warp and then they went! Out of system. DidnÆt come back, didnÆt hang around, nothing. Let me tell you, if it had been us, we wouldnÆt have given up until all the enemies transports were lying at the heart of debris fields!ö
So what next for The Five, since their removal from Cache, three separate war declarations have been approved. Three alliances are now preparing to 'finish off' this apparently dead alliance. ItÆs interesting to note however, RA arenÆt one of them.
Wiley opponents of The Five, RA have done a superb job in playing to the mechanics of sovereignty, but these wiley opponents must know that the Five are far from deathÆs door and to get themselves into a war of fleet would be to counteract all that they have achieved. |

A most interesting piece of fiction!
You make it sound as if we are unhappy; if you actually had any clue about the actual situation - morale is now higher in the Five than it has been at any point, including the actual formation of the alliance.
And you got one fact wrong: We did have the ability to wage a POS war; as was shown over the first two months where we literally dominated the entire area. However, we are fighters - PVPers at heart. Anchoring and fuelling control tower's holds no interest to us.
Mark my word's, those who believe that we are demoralised couldn't be further from the truth - those who believe they can destroy a nomadic PVP alliance by taking an abandoned station, couldn't be further from the truth - and those who assume us to be a dying entity...
...Are going to be getting a reality check.
But, those who are looking for a fight? You are not to be dissapointed; I assure you. Already in the past six hour's there has been a large number of engagements.

An interesting read, but I honestly think that this is the worst thing which could have happened to enemies of the .5.
The game mechanics are such that it is far far easier to be the attacker than the defender. If you have nothing to defend then you have nothing to fear losing and nothing that you need to waste resources guarding.
I would far rather have an enemy that had something to lose (in terms of territory/stations) than one which did not.
I don't remember the .5. having a lot of territory when they rolled into Curse and took it!

For the most part I think that was a very complimentary post towards the 5, so much so that I suspect some five altery at work here :)
I would however like to emphasise, people need to ask themselves about 5's imminent death...... how is it that a fleet assembled with the sole purpose of delivering a crushing blow to our sweet alliance...made up of FOUR hostile alliances logged twice and wouldn't engage.

Indeed. Whomever the Five is coming for had probably better watch out - for their purposes, owning almost all the ex-CA regions and a few other beside probably didn't jive too much with their objectives, whatever they are. And I agree with Fitz Chivalry - something nasty *someone's* way comes, and whenever we find out who it is, I suspect it's not going to be pretty. Maybe we can see another 250bs [.5.] fleet ;p

Edited by: Faith Black on 19/10/2005 00:19:00 /me starts dreaming of huge freighters going into warp, supported by their dedicated frigates, escorted by an army of battleships, pilots knowing that they'll have to secure the convoy at any cost... a huge operation, moving billions of isk ... clear orders, scouts reporting enemy contact, highest tension, everything happening in an almost unreal athmosphere of happiness, exitement, pride, concentration and purposefulness.
/me wakes up, turns the page and thinks: 'Damn, nice short story. Wish I was a pilot.' and starts to read the next one ....

Great read.
but what in the world? IMHO [5] are just going back to what they are good at. I never understood why they wanted to "settle down" and hold territory. They are nomadic pvp'ers and will prolly take up moving around killing who they please and taking the resources like locusts . Not that [5] care but its about time they went back to what they are good at.

When NSA lost their stations to Bob this was seen as (quite rightly) a great victory for Bob.
When Five lost their stations to RA this is somehow seen as a victory to the Five.
Quite how this works I have no idea.
We (mlm) retreated to syndicate where the rest of eve (who gave damn) laughed at us for going to such a poor part of 0.0 space.
The five retreat to empire and it's a master stroke.
Don't know how this works either.

Syndicate and Aridia are pretty crap areas of space, compared to Immensea, Cache etc. Bit of a reduction in status for the 5. They are a fickle and somewhat shallow alliance and that is why if they take your space, just wait a few months and then you'll be able to take it back again.
Plenty of ideas about how to conquer, but no ideas about how to exploit or hold onto conquered territory. And people say they have a "goal"? They don't. That is pretty obvious.
The only thing of any use that comes out of the 5 are The Enslavers Cap Recharger II builds and they are about 13,000,000 more expensive than they need to be.

I thought it was a good read. I especially liked the part where these 2 huge fleets passed so close to eachother. The tension..."Will they spot our freighters on the scanner?"
I don't know what's true, nor do I want to. I liked reading it all the same. Good work.

Wrong on the first part, correct on the second. No question of ability. The map during that time was the proof of the pudding.
Nice report. Chuckling about the anal bit.

With respect, OOC removed - Eshtir rethink the bold portion of your statement. The more people fall for that conclusion (and people seem to be swallowing that hook, line, and sinker), the more of a spanking they are in for.
