Can someone explain to me the concept of drones, how to use them, when would I want to use them at all and when not, etc?
Thanks

Mining drones = a bit of extra mining power. Combat drones = extra firepower.
Some ships, like the ishtar, dominix, thorax, etc rely almost entirely on drones for their offense. Others use them as a secondary weapon. For example, they can be used to take out smaller ships in missions while your big guns stay on the larger targets. - Proud member of the [23].

To use drones:
1. Buy the ones you want (scout for combat, mining for mining). 2. Load them into the drone bay of your ship - this can only be done in the station where you bought them. 3. When in space, if you want to use your drones, look at the bottom of your overview (assuming you have drones in the drone bay). It should show a 'drone overview'. Simply right-click on 'drones in bay' and select 'launch drones'. Now they will be 'drones in space' - right click this menu to make them attack or mine or whatever.
Takes some getting used to but once you use them you'll wonder how you did without. Just go practice in a safe asteroid belt until you get used to it.
Common error: be careful of using your smartbombs when you have drones in space around you

Once you get in a big ship, you ll almost need drones to kill microwarping close range ships due to bad tracking of larger guns.

I have mining drones, but I don't think they are mining. The two bars to the far right do not change, and the drones just swim around in space, even when thier status says that they are mining.

They should be flying back and fourth with the ore gathered if not they are not working as they should.. Target a rock in a belt and select mine.. Then should they begin to mine.. They are very slow though ----------------------------------------------

Y does no one here mention the required skills? If u dont have the skills and u pop your drones...they wont do anything.
Infact..in the old days, my Scout drones (fighting drones) attacked me because i didn't have scout drone operation... ------------------------------------ I AM....YOUR MOTHER.... |

Mining drones will do 2 things (assuming you give the mine repeatedly order). 1) They will orbit the targetted asteroid. 2) They will, on occasion, return to your ship and drop their ore in your cargo.
Try doing it without your miners active and you will see it. ------- Bringer of Squirrelly Wrath - Foaminian Card Cult
