One 27", four 22" monitors. Trying to build a system capable of this. I have a topic going on toms hardware, but honestly I am underwhelmed at the amount of information I've received. It seems like very few have tried what I'm doing.
So here I am, looking for help from you guys. My original idea was to go with 3 nvidia gtx 670's. One card for the largest display, the others get two 22" displays each. Is this even possible? Can I use more than one GPU on the motherboard operating independently of each other? (No SLI/Xfire) I thought it was a simple matter of having enough GPU's to support the number of displays, but I'm not so sure now.
Also had an idea of maybe getting one Radeon 7950 with Eyefinity, as I heard that one card could support up to 6 monitors. But, I'm having a hard time believing that the one card, could play 5 eve clients at max settings without issue. Also, it was my understanding that eyefinity was for turning all the monitors into one large display, that's not what I'm trying to do.
I understand GTX 670's are a bit overkill for eve, but I plan to hang onto this system for a while. I would also like to do this without liquid cooling if possible.
Thanks for any response. |

I bet you could get away with 2 GTX 680 or 2 AMD 7970 and still have the graphics turned up. |

I run 6 monitors on 3 cards, but I don't know about running 5 clients on separate monitors. I only ever use 1 for gaming. A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery. |

Not just possible, but downright overkill from certain standpoints. A single GTX 670 could already easily handle all 5 clients on its own with processing power to spare. The only downside of a single card would be that you could not use 5 monitors. You need a second card for that.

But, I'm having a hard time believing that the one card, could play 5 eve clients at max settings without issue. The only POTENTIAL serious issue could be lack of video RAM. A single EVE instance can have a wildly different video RAM needs depending on loaded textures (which depends on what the ingame simulated situation might be, flying a mission solo is obviously vastly different from being engaged in a massive fleet combat situation), but I personally haven't seen it go past 650MB or thereabouts myself (station-spinning barely uses 100MB extra or so, but no idea how bad a large fleet combat could get). Even if you're paranoid about it, in standalone (non-SLI) mode, a ballpark of 1 GB of video RAM per instance/monitor should more than suffice.
You could even get mismatched cards if you don't really care about the SLI: - one 3GB GTX 670 for the large screen plus two of the smaller ones, and - one 2GB GTX 660 (non-Ti) for the remaining two smaller monitors.

You do know that the 700 series is coming out sooner rather than later, no ? Probably best wait until at least the 760s come out and get some of those instead - they're also more likely to have more video RAM than the current generation. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T Build your own EVE PC http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1559734 |

Liquid cooling nowadays isn't as complicated (or expensive) as it was in the old days due to the prevalence of closed liquid systems. You can get some very good safe liquid cooling for the CPU and GPU. Check out the Corsair Hydro liquid cooling systems.
My rig could probably support what you are doing with multiple video cards (I just need one GTX 680 for my needs). I have the following on a Asus Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard. It is a BEAST and will take on anything you throw at it. Running cool in a big Coolermaster case. BTW, get a Seasonic power supply. IMHO one of the best out there and you are gonna need some good, solid, clean power with multiple high end graphic cards.

Wow, thank you Akita. That pretty much sums it all up, I think I have enough information to put this all together. I typed up a long response, twice, and lost it, twice, so I guess this will suffice. I won't be building this til mid-latge august, so if the 700 series is out by then, I may get a pair of those. Or just get a killer deal on some 670's. :) I'm not really a gamer per se, just some game I like to play. Eve being the main one.
My only concern is that the GPU's only have 2 dvi, 1 hdmi, and one displayport. The monitors I'm looking at only support DVI. I suppose I could use an adapter, if quality wouldn't be compromised. I would think not, especially since they are both digital signals.
Thank you for the info. |

Will look into that PSU. Thanks. Will post a pic when its all said and done. :) |
