I am the audio TL for Dystopia, a HL2 mod. I've been playing Eve for a while now, and while I love the current music, I have my own that I would like to share with the community. I was hoping for a way to plug them directly into a directory in Eve so one could access the mp3's, once download, via the in-game jukebox. I didn't see anything in the prefs.ini for music, save for the typical on/off/level adjustments. Any ideas on how to do this, or if it is all possible? Sure, one can argue to simply boot up winamp or another media player, but I'd rather have it accessable in game, for obvious reasons (memory footprints, lag, audio chans).
Thanks for your help!

there was an app on eve-i that let you do this, but since it's down atm, you'll need to find an alternate source.
the musicce is in a seperate .stuff file, in the .ogg format, but i have no idea how to modify this other than with that tool...

Sybylle, your link points to the eve-i website, which is offline.
With a little googling, I did find it there. I didn't download/test it, I just provide it as an alternative link.
Cheers!

Edited by: Teen on 20/11/2005 15:17:53 It's easy; * create the the directory/directories .../res/Sound/Music/ * copy your music there * list all the tunes you want to listen to in inflight.m3u
It might even be possible to have the music elsewhere, if you include a relative path before the name of the tune, never tried it tho ;).

Run windows media player in the background
seriously. You can take upwards of a 20fps hit if you have EVE's music and sound effects running so switch em off. PS. i love EVE's sound but I havn't had it on in almost a year. I breefly turned it on to hear the seductive new Autopilot lady.
Let me say.. she can activate my warp drive any day ;) "warp drive active" yeah.. she wants me.

It's a standard winamp playlist format, make a playlist in winamp and save it to inflight.m3u :) ___________________________________________________

What? Winamp? I thought she was talking about how to get your own music into Eve without having to run a media player.

Edited by: Selvin on 06/12/2005 09:54:28 omg.... did u read all topic ? Edit: (catalog == folder(in polish)) 1. make sound/music catalog in res catalog of eve 2. make inflight.m3u in winamp or other player and copy it to res/sound.music catalog 3. enjoy new music in eve
i didnt try it but if it not works: 1. try to put mp3 file to res/sound/music catalog and than make new inflight.m3u 2. convert mp3 file to ogg file and make new inflight.m3u with ogg files
/emote wonders why reading it only half of success and why ppls dont understand what they r reading ...

Some games allow you to simply move the shortcuts of the song when used in game, does anyone know if I can do this or so I have to copy the actualy mp3's?

I'm trying to find a way to use the inflight.m3u technique for streaming mp3's off a remote location (i.e. a shoutcast server) with no success whatsoever. It would be really nifty if the Jukebox got enhanced to support "tuning" into streams, so you could be listening to online radio for instance.
(and mp3PRO, aacPlus support would be even sweeter, but that takes quite some money into licensing...)
Matrix Online had an in game online radio player where you could just point it to either a remote streaming server, or even a local playlist file (they used WMP10 for it though). The point is that it made the game much more enjoyable and breathed some life to its decaying ruins... Split Infinity Radio Get Loud, Get Mental http://www.siradio.fm |

Interesting. I've tried modifying the .stuff files using some of my own apps, but for some weird reason in game it seems like theres no change. Anyone know what the reason would be for that?

huh.... messing with stuff files in such way isnt good: 1) against EULA 2) patch will not apply on changed files
better solution (still against EULA) is EVE\res folder (client search for files here first (then in stuff files)
i dont think that is possible to listen stream in eve client u can always post this idea to "Features and Ideas Discussion" forum
anyway messing with eve clinet can end with ban -- TriExporter

Reading the thread i got it work after much trial and error.
step 1: download this http://www.scherbenet.de/eve-online/evepg_install.exe
step 2: get your mp3s ready for eve -create a folder to hold your eve mp3s/ogg -copy all mp3s to be used ingame to the new folder -rename ALL mp3 files with this extention .ogg -example: korn - blind.mp3 to korn - blind.ogg
step 3: getting the ogg files in the jukebox -run the program you downloaded -drag and drop ALL the OGG files into the white window -click randomize tracks if you want -IMPORTANT: you must point the program to the EVE folder ----look for this in the program
Settings EVE folder (white box) BROWSE button
default path from fresh EVE install WHITE BOX is C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE
-click browse and find the eve folder and click ok
when done click the START button and when it says finished you are done...open the game and enjoy.
double check and make sure the OGG files are in the EVE folder by surfing to:
C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\res\Sound\Music
you should see a bunch of ECPg00000.ogg files and more importantly a file called INFLIGHT.m3u
IF you have done these steps and it isnt working the only thing i can tell you is goto the forums and read up and experiement

enjoy

Brilliant! Perfect. I was tired of playing iTunes in the background and having to restart it every 20 minutes because the audio freaked out.
One addition. When music gets dropped into your prog, make so that you can drop any mp3 into it, and have a button that will auto rename it to the .oog format. Hand renaming file extensions suck, unless there is a find replace tool in windows explorer that I dont know about.
Thanks again. Now I can listen to all my music soundtracks in game, in music browser.
Kingdom of Heaven Gladiator Narnia Fifth Element
Perfect!

Not in windows explorer, but if you open a command prompt to the folder containing the files you want to rename then you can change them all using the command:
ren *.mp3 *.ogg

Because you have to create it first ? The way that the stuff files work is that if the directory actually exists on your HD those files get used first, if not the file in the stuffies gets used.

Well, it seems kinda pointless now if its against the EULA......

So its against the EULA to modify none of their files ? <snickers>
