- The Kinect isIntegrated so tightly into the Xbox that I doubt it can be unplugged as the Kinect is the on switch. - The Xbox in designed to be left on and accessing the internet when you aren't using it. - Radar like capabilities on the camera.
So we have a device with radar and camera functions that is an integral part of a device designed to access the internet while you sleep. Oh, and to complete the Big Brother analogy, it's also hooked up to your television. |

The "XBone" as it's being affectionately referred to really isn't doing anything for me... It looks much more like a media center than a gaming console, and all the "features" look... rather intrusive as the last poster commented... Think I'll stick with PS4 if I can ever afford it, and farewell Micro$oft. |

From what i understand, it won't be that simple. Sweeny started working on UE4 from the ground up back in 2007, already targetting 'next gen'. While the design philosophy on the whole is the same it won't be a straight up iteration of the engine like it was from ue1 through ue3. Think of it as the jump from idtech 4 to idtech 5 - While the core design philosophy is identical (it being Carmack at the helm for both), you can't straight up take stuff from one and put it in the other.
That you don't have to rebuild your package every time you make a change is a huge, huge change already and it makes me pretty sure that porting content will involve exporting it into it's individual parts from ue3 and importing it into ue4 (models, textures, animations, whatever) rather than converting ue3 data straight up to ue4. I'm quite sure the data structure has had to change quite a bit.
After all that's been said, i don't think Dust will ever be ported to UE4. An engine switch like that is difficult to pull off, especially when so much of every single part of the game is interwoven with one another to some degree on a technical level. However, UE3 is VERY scalable still so i'd expect some juicy extras when it comes to the PS4.
Also, when Dust comes to the PS4 it will also come to the PC around the same time.

I mean, you have Sony's "Planetside 2" for the PC competing for potentially vaguely similar users, so it stands to reason Sony might have possibly shuffled in some "don't port this to the PC too soon" clause in there at some point. Also, CCP didn't really seem interested in making a PC version in any official communications so far either. So, it might happen, but most likely only eventually, not right after the PS4 version is out. Of course, it could be as you say, but I don't think it's very probable. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T Build your own EVE PC http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1559734 |

I find it a bit sad how everyone says it will come out for PC. This is a top level business decision : its a console game and an fps because of that.

Well, it is quite conceivable that IF the console version eventually starts to struggle for a few years with low//declining user numbers // income levels, CCP might possibly reverse their initially stated platform selection and expand it to also include a PC version. But yeah, I wouldn't really expect a PC version before 2016 the earliest, and possibly never. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T Build your own EVE PC http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1559734 |

It seems to me CCP has aspirations to endure over the decades by spreading out into a multi game, multiplatform business. They've struck gold with Eve, developing New Eden and levereging that into Dust and a TV series. Given that they need publishers and contractors with the Hardware producers, Sony in this case, this is more than just an FPS for CCP, its the second step in their maturation into more than a one trick pony.
They would prefer to show they can make a console game stand on its own two feet rather than resort to pleasing their existing user base. I'd love them to publish on PC, but I can't fathom a good reason from their perspective to do so in the next 5 years in the incoming console platforms. Better odds on an XB1 version being produced.

Xbone is going to lose the consul war before it even starts. Unless they come out with some mind blowing games the playstation will have the advantage and even the wii U would be a better gaming consul. there are so many downsides to the Xbone its not even funny.
no backwards compatability. no used games. if you want to borrow a game from a friend you'll have to pay a fee to play it. you are required to connect to the internet about once a day. they are pushing to have everything on the cloud servers. also if you plan to buy used xbone games thinking the fee will be ok. microsoft is restricting xbone games to be discounted only 10 percent. example: 60 dollar game on todays used game price is about what. 30 dollars depending.
xbone: 60 dollar game with new used game maximum discount being 10 percent would be only 54 dollars. that is the lowest they would be able to sell it. then add the fee... yah....
xbone wont suport sdtv's so unless you have a hdtv.. you're we'll.. boned. 360 controlers not compatable with xbone
no indi developer support.
now i'll just leave this here. xbone abridged A lot of things have happened since my rookie years.

What would happen if digital copies of Xbox One games are cheaper than the same games on other systems ?
That doesn't happen on PC because retails still sell enough copies of a game that when they threaten to not stock a publisher unless the digital and physical prices match, the publisher caves. The more I read about the details of the second hand fee, the more I see it as a way for MS to gain enough leverage over the retailer that the previous threat won't work for Xbox games.
Lower prices will be a draw to the Xbox, forcing other platforms to chose between calling dropping prices and seeing if the retailers follow through on their threat or simply losing to the Xbox because most people will only see cheaper prices.
So you need to decide if cheaper prices and the guarantee that the game will always be in stock is worth the loss of second hand sales or not.
Now, the Kinect possibly spying on you, that is another matter

I don't entirely blame them for that, it should be a well duh it plays games. of course they should have some game play footage and some tech demos, didn't they show off a bunch of cod footage? Then again it really doesn't seem to make sense to cater to the non-core audience at the launch announcement, plenty of time to sell it to the soccer moms later.
always online is annoying, and I couldn't care less about the kinect
I dunno overall it is a gaming console, I don't see what all the fuss is about. A lot of it seems less than optimal and will hopefully change (okay the taking a game over to a friend's seems terribly annoying). ah well my interest in consoles is almost completely gone, that might be the main reason I'm not giving a ****. Comrad O'Brian is my all time favorite character I have ever portrayed on stage. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I doubt he could have conceived of such a method, we know what it will lead to and we still damn well do it.
