I am also a new players and quite enjoying the game. Only joined 2 months ago. I actually am thinking of writing a guide (while all that is still fresh for me) on stuff that new players might need to know and that are not explained clear enough anywhere - i just don't have the time right now.
Right now I am using my spare time to give feedback on new features aimed at new players. Inducing the proliferation of common sense throughout EVE Official forums since April 27th, 2013. |

I hope to god that I won't get bitter, as bitterness usually is the result of something bad happening.. "Bad" things will happen to you during your EVE play. But the more expensive the lesson, the better it is learned. Yah. You *will* get ganked. Repeatedly. Don't whinge about it on the fora - that only attracts trolls. Unless you*like* troll-baiting. In which case, have t it!
When you do get ganked, try to figure out why/how it happened, and which mistakes you made. Sometimes, there's literally nothing you could've done better, but most often, you've left yourself open in some manner. Learn how to use those lessons against others.
Don't post complaints about moderation here in the fora. CCP's responses to petitions can be... Slow. But no one here can help you with that, it won't speed up the process, and you will, again, attract trolls.
Carry on smartly! Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

my advice , learn what the game has to offer and choose your career path you want to follow and do not let others tell you , you need to play the game their way
have fun Thanks for the advice! I will eventually choose one path, but right now I'm all about trying different stuff. It's a little like elementary school, where you try all kinds of stuff before you go on to specializing in one thing.. (at least that's how I like to think about it) I also realized that I posted this with my first character, which I halfway abandoned so I could make a new one another place to play with my friends, but it does not really matter that much. I'm a new EVE citizen - less than three weeks into it. In a purely practical sense, I recommend doing ALL of the tutorial missions. One the key things you'll get from them is a fair grasp of game mechanics and 'how do I do X'. The life of your ship will often hang on how well you are able to manage your weapons load-outs, their associated ammunition and the general fit of your ship.
Maneuver is vital. It's easy to warp into a location, get fascinated by what's going on and realize too late that you're not moving and have thus become a sitting duck. There's a fine art to kiting - keeping your ship at a certain distance that favors your weapons load-out and capabilities versus over your opponents. And then there's the lesson of learning NOT to orbit one opponent only to orbit into range of another.
I get the impression that mastering these essentials will allow you to punch well above your weight, a premise I have yet to really test.
Good luck with your endeavors in this remarkable universe. It's your story to tell. "The object in life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane." -- Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-180)

There are a great deal of players who will give you advice, even after they've blown you up, especially if you ask. I've lost count of the number of conversations I've watched in local between players about what went wrong, or how a simple mod change could have changed an outcome.
Don't feed the trolls - although for those of us who lurk here while we're supposed to be working, sometimes watching is great fun. Especially when the internet lawyers fight it out with the real lawyers, that is great sport!
I will babysit your stuff for you while you're gone, all contributions to my ship replacement program are-ásubject to being exploded on the undock

Start PVPing as soon as you can reliably afford to lose frig's over and over. All automated intel should be removed from the game including Instant local/jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel. |

Again, thank you everyone! So many good pieces of advice in this thread!
Quote:There are a great deal of players who will give you advice, even after they've blown you up This is actually a pretty common thing in other games with a good community too. Gotta love it!
Quote:Start PVPing as soon as you can reliably afford to lose frig's over and over. That might be a good way for some players, but I still prefer to have a better knowledge about the game before I start PvPing on my own initiative. Especially when I can't analyze what I'm doing wrong with my current understanding of the game.

Trust, but verify You didn't happen to drop by my stream yesterday and put that in the chat? I remember someone writing something in cyrillic letters.

And for God's sake - KEEP YOUR CLONE UP TO DATE!!! Not sure what you are referring to here, is it like an actual gameplay feature that I completely missed? (Yesh, I haz noobdom) When you train, you accumulate skill points, after a while you have more skill points your clone can hold, if you get podded (someone killed your pod), you end up in the station your medical clone is set. You should always upgrade your medical clone to hold enough skill points.
If you get podded and your medical clone doesn't have enough skill point capacity, you will lose a level 5 skill i believe, at least a fair amount of skillpoints you didn't wan to lose. So always update your clone, and don't forget to do so again when you get podded. More info here : http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/What_happens_when_my_character_dies
Also, here are some third party programs i really recommend:
EVEMON Helps you manage your skillpoints, also warns you when clones are out of date/ you aren't training a skill,...
EFT Helps you fit a ship out of game.
I use EVEMON and EFT for many years now.
EVE is very large, steep learning curve and there is a lot of variety. Figure out what you like, personally i joined a pretty big corp (250 members) that was rookie friendly. They did a bit of everything, pvp, pve, mining, exploring, wormholes, ... and confirm they are active.
EVE University is for example a good corp to learn the game.
Figure out what you like, then find people who do it, have fun.
Ah yes, be careful who you trust is good advice. Sometimes, you have come to trust someone, you can be betrayed. I have come across people who join corp, talk on comms, very polite, gained trust, then stole everything they got their hands on. |

I just felt like sharing my initial impression of EvE, because to be honest I was expecting a crappy mmo game I would play for a couple of hours and just leave, but as my first post said, I find EvE to be more and more fun every day I play! Perhaps I will think that this all looks stupid in a year or two, but I really don't care that much. |

Thanks for the combat advice, I'll test them when I get an opportunity! About the tutorial missions: I agree. As I just started playing EvE some days ago, I think that doing the tutorial missions is a good way get into how the different ways of playing is working. |

Something that's always good to remember - the bigger the exploding ship, the better. Also the more ships that explode, the better.
That includes yours. |
