Do skills continue to be trained when my subscription runs out? For example, if I started Caldari Battleship V tonight and in a week, my subscription ran out, would the remaining 23 days of training be frozen or would they run down until the skill was finished? ________________________ Bah, my sig is 2Kb too large! |

Edit: It happened to me several times -----------------------------

Yep, it will definitely continue training until it finishes, even if your account expires.
(I've also availed of this feature in the past)

And how do I stop paying without cancelling the subscription as a CC user? Either the skills are being trained while the account is inactive (regardless of the reason why it is inactive), or they are not.
Or are there other experiences?

i cancel my subscription every time i renew it, as i dont like it autorenewing, and yes, skills continue to train when the account runs out.

That's because the game only flags your current skill in training and the amount of skillpoints it has trained in it when you log off. When you log back in it will check the time between the last two sessions and then sets your skillpoints to the correct amount. It does the same thing whenever you close and open your character sheet.
So in effect, the real-time training is just a digit stored somewhere that changes accordingly when you check it.
For the same reason we can't switch skills offline, since then the Eve database would actually have to calculate and store the skillpoints of every character every second.

So that EVEmail sent 6 hours ago when your skill finished training was actually generated only when you logged on? I kinda doubt that.

Yep That is correct.
The server stores no detail about your skills other than
1) Amount of Skills/Skill points 2) When you started Training. 3) Which Skill you started training.
The server does not work out anything else.
The *client* can then work out exactly what level the skill is on, and how long is left to level up that paticular skill. That is what you see. When a skill is leveled up, the client lets the server know, and the server does a quick validity check to ensure no memory hacking.
The Server Generates that Eve Mail when you log on, but the times are changed appropriately.

I dont see the use in that for CCP? it only provokes abuse.
So could I make an 14-Day Trial, start training cruiser 5, and after enough time has passed I could reactivate that account with the cruiser 5 skill ?!? Or any other skill that takes long enough, but still is able to start training with an 14 day-Trial?

yea ok. and what good is that going to do you? a noob character with no learning skills trained, no, engineering, electronics, drones, gunnery, missiles, navigation skills trained. but it has cruiser 5. what exactly are you going to do with it?

Then, how canceling the subscription stop your skill being trained?

@Babylove. Read the thread. Your skill training doesn't stop when your account has ended.

So, Caldorous is wrong when he say that it stop if you cancel the subscription, right?

What abuse? You may be getting skillpoints while your account is inactive but you can't PLAY and enjoy the game (duh!), so what exactly is your point? Unless the only reason for your EvE existance is to collect SPs I don't see how you are abusing or cheating the system.

Yes skills continue training when your account has expired/been canceled, I have a corp member who signs up for a month, then sets her longest training skill before it ends, and doesn't renew until it is done
BTW, the reason why skills continue training while you are not logged in is because it is free for CCP, they do not have to spend any processing time on your character while it is not logged in, as the game just checks Time/Date stamps to figure out when your skill will finish, in fact, I am pretty sure it calculates when you will finish when you first start it, as getting podded and losing implants does not change currently running skills
So it is a win-win for CCP, you are more likely to resubscribe if you have a better character waiting for you when you come back, and they don't have to spend a second of processor time on any of their servers in the mean time

Edited by: MWEI on 09/11/2005 01:42:01 Its only useful if you know you are going to be away for a month or two. Then you can set it to train some extremly long rank-8 skill to lv5 without actually paying for the two month of subscription.
Since no skill requires 6 month to train and all accounts are kept in record for 6 month after canceling, you dont need to worry about skill disapearing.
