An idol thought coming on from watching Sword Art Online, an anime about an MMORPG, where the cast is the players of the game. It got me thinking, how would it be best to approach an Eve TV series?
Would it be a live action series within the universe as I understand HBO are doing, or would it be more engrossing to have it outside of the game, about players managing these titanic alliances of players? An anime, 3d ect.
Or go the .hack//sign approach, another anime where the protagonist is stuck inside an MMORPG, to them that is the world, with emergent AI in the system.
Penny for your thoughts?

Middle of watching a series where they've made it work, I'm curious to see if it could with Eve, maybe it only works in Japanese media

I think it'll be based on stories told by the players, maybe jazzed up a bit for a TV audience. You should be notified if someone quotes your post so you can continue the argument! |

An EVE TV series should most definitely include pilots and events that happens.
CCP always said the key to EVE's success is its players, so it would be pretty dumb to not based or influence something like that from the players.

Personally I'm hoping to see something Firefly-like, set in the eve universe obviously.
The important thing is that they don't get too fancy with it. I have faith in HBO but still I'm worried the entire thing is going to be slo-mo explosions with no real content (depth).
no offense to anime fans, but I really don't want to see too much similarity between the eve series (if it actually gets made that is) and anime. In my experience anime tends to focus too much on the one thing that makes the particular anime series special, eventually turning the whole thing ridiculous as it keeps escalating.
To answer the OP: What I want to see is a live action series that takes place inside the eve universe. |

/c Ah, I meant in the sense of will the cast be players of the game, or will the cast be people within New Eden?
I can imagine a heist style film of the fall of BoB, going between real world events and inside the game, spruced up for TV of course, but you get the idea.

I'm curious to see what sort of story arc they take with it. If they do it wrong, it'll be boring as hell and incomprehensible to anywho who doesn't play Eve.
One thing's for certain: the show's mechanics won't work like the game's. Founding member of the Belligerent Undesirables movement. |

I think the best possible setting would be a small group of pilots operating in a small pocket of lowsec where they regularly interact with both empire and alliance warfare, pirates, and "civilized" highsec. Founding member of the Belligerent Undesirables movement. |

I think the concept of imortal pilots doens't realy work in a series that has to apeal to a audience with an age of 25 and older.
At the moment The Walking dead and Game of Thrones are amoung the most appreaciated genre series. A lot of that appeal comes from the fact that anyone can drop dead at any moment. (and boobies ocourse )
What makes EVE online a dark a gritty game is the fact that there is loss, a tv serries should relect that and that aint going to happen when the pilots wake up after every fight.
I think thay should take a different aproach.
in the 90's there was this western series (I believe it was called Deadman's gun) that evolved arround a gun.
This might be the proper aproach for EVE as well. Take a ship. Start openings credits with a Noctis that is salvaging a wreck wich is reconstructed to a ship. and make every story a new one. one that can end with blowing up the ship or selling it to the next pilot.
In that case you focus on the atchievement of the moment instead of the demigod pilot that keeps returning from the dead.

Or perhaps, from the perspective of a capsuleer questioning their humanity as they endure forever.
We're basically the Human Model Cylons when you think about it, and they worked that pretty damned well. Downside is we need to remove the Capsule part of things.

I don't want to be mean to iceland but don't get your hopes up too high dudes, an incelandic space opera TV series will probably make Syfy monster movies look like high production value.
Wouldn't be surprised if half of it ends up being Machinema made by CCP with the other half recorded in someone's basement. |

I'll watch it anyway, but i don't have much expectations from it...
But OF COURSE i'll prefer something like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Stargate Atlantis... I mean, with the lore and story. I'm not very interested in player stories, but it's can be there as an additional source. Let's say, every 4th one is a true story.
But as i said i don't have much expectations - those cool sci-fi series are done by the big companies with a lot of money invested. in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much? Played for 2 months, and tired of the same space again... https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2195542#post2195542 |

To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |
