Does anyone here know if the refine skills have any effect on the yield of recycled equipment/goods?

Yes it does. My CEO had Refine 5 and Refine Efficency 3 or 4 and he says it helps a lot with the Recycling. He gets more of the Mega/Zydrine when he recycles the items in lots of 10+
Hope this helps...

It does help reduce waste. We literally let hundreds of items stack up in our hangars. I don't want to 'squish' something that has a waste of Megacyte, but if I had 43 of them, I might be able to salvage more of it.

Refining Efficiency 5 is a god-send. Back when Arkonor was more common (the ore, not the person) with average refining skills it sold for 1.1 million isk per refine. With Refining Efficiency 5 however each refine was in excess of 1.4 million isk

Edited by: Dawn on 07/08/2003 05:54:29 The basic refine does make a difference, but not a very big one. Train Refining to level and then get and train Refine Eff. to at least lvl4 for the noticable benefits.

After Refining Efficiency Skill are there any others pertaining to mining/refining?

Of course there is Refining and Efficiency to get the waste down and yield higher; but you can also look at your Mining skill to increase it's input of ore you bring in, as well as your Drone Mining skill.

I currently have refine eff 4, and ya it does help with recycling items. I get CRAZY yeilds from ore! Its definatly a skill you will want to invest in as a miner...

Can anyone confirm how it works, for example Veldspar.
You need 333 for one refine, and from that you get:- 750 Trit to player 6 Trit to the Station 224 Trit waste 980 total Trit
76.53% to Player 0.61% to the Station 22.86% waste 100% total
What do the figures from refining and refining effiency relate to?, they state:- -2% reduction in waste - refining -4% reduction in waste - refinin effiency
So in thoery with lvl 5 in both it should be:- 22.86 * 0.9 = 20.57% (refining) 20.57 * 0.8 = 16.46% (refining effiency)
22.86 - 16.46 = 6.4% Total saving???
Is that correct?, because it doesn't sound a lot for two level 5 skills???
I'm not trying to be negative, I wonder if somebody with refining effiencey could post some figures for one refine of any ore, so we can compare the differences.

My understanding is that Refining reduces the waste by 2% per level. So if you have level 5, then the total waste drops from, say, 25% down to 15%, which is quite a lot |

I note the above discussion of refining skill... but from a purely financial standpoint, does it make sense for a nube miner to refine ore and sell metals, or is it better to simply sell the ore?

Edited by: Agent Shield on 12/08/2003 18:50:21 Milos, you should consider both possible ways of cashing in your ore.
If you had 500 Omber and could refine for 15k at a basic refine level (or is it no refine skill), then per Omber is about 31 Isk per unit. But you then also have to sell these minerals to the market which may entail having to deliver to other stations or solar systems to get a better price. Or you could possibly sell at any station and live with the going rate of that mineral in that area.
But if you sold the ore for 31, you are better off since that is what you would have got if you reprocessed the ore yourself, and you have forced someone else to deal with the issue of unloading the mineral contents.
But, not everyone is going to offer 31 for ore when they have the trouble of refining to make a spread, and the overhead of picking up the ore, and then of course the dreaded selling of the minerals to a market that may not be giving full price at the moment.
So would it be worth it to you to sell your ore at 30? 28? 26? and just grab your cash (ISK) now and let others worry about the end result? (BTW, I am paying 27 per unit on Omber right now)
That is why you must decide which is best for you in your situation and location, but always look at it from both sides for price vs convenience.
Example is that I have been buying quite a few pieces of Kernite lately for 47 recently. I will of course have to go pick it up, refine it, and then sell the minerals; but my profit will be on the order of about 41 per unit as I buy for 47, refine for 88. So my spread for pickup, refine, and selling of the minerals to be about 45% or so from what I paid (What it could be worth, not what I paid). This margin allows me to hold the minerals for a better pay day (but no Isk while holding in product), or I am able to sell under market conditions and still make a profit if I need cash (ISK) for some reason quickly. I recenlty sold about 200k of Iso for 58 each because I needed some Isk for a major purchase. I could have held out for a bigger payday on those minerals, but chose to unload.
Now who knows, maybe someone is buying at 58 and then turning around and selling for 64 which in turn gives that player 10% profit.
It is a never ending circle and you need to fit yourself in where you feel comfortable. :-)
For newbies mining scordite, I have seen newbie areas where players are buying scordite for 7, which is actually more than what a newbie with no skills can earn if they processed and sold the minerals themselves. So yes, you need to look at it both ways and decide which price is better at that particular moment. It can vary daily, hourly.

Balack...
Refining 333 veldspar:
No refining skill = 750 tritanium Refining at level 5 = 825 tritanium (10% extra) R. Efficiency at level 3 = 924 tritanium (23.2% extra)
