I've noticed that larger ships, especially industrials, sometimes get "stuck" if they try to warp immediately after leaving a station. The ship will simply turn and turn, but never actually start warping. I have to stop the ship and move farther out to successfully warp. Its rather time consuming to do so in an industrial and slows down my trading runs.
This only happens in larger ships and when the ship is relatively close to a station. Also, certain stations, depending on their structure, will deposit a ship farther out after undocking, so this isn't a problem at every station.
Is this a a bug or an intentionally feature of the game?

Sounds like the ship is simply getting 'stuck' on the station. I'd call it an unintentional feature =P

Ha, just wait till you get to the fancy stations that crap you out inside a little dome or ring that blocks your path in all directions save straight down usually. My 0.0 refining station is like this. *shudder*
You have to keep flying straight down, for instance, to clear the remainder of the station before you can slow down, orient, then warp off. In an Industrial. With cargo mods. Full of zydrine. you get the idea.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the proximity of your ship to the station - I've had it happen a couple times myself -- reading in the dev blog has given me an idea of why your ship "sticks" -- what I think happens is the server-side event that is triggered when you warp gets "stuck" -- so, by going further out and then warping again, you're basically cancelling the warp command that was "stuck" and then sending another warp command, which then works. Seems to just be code issues.

i had this happen recently with my ibis, so its not just large ships. it just seems to happen if you warp too close to the station, no matter what.
