There seem to be a lot of people who have two (or more) separate, paid-for accounts (rather than alts).
What's that all about? Are these people rich? Or are there great benefits to having a second account that I'm unaware of...?

Edited by: Sveldt on 03/11/2005 15:24:31 The ability to train more than one skill at once is a big draw. I maintain two accounts so I can fly all four of the races(2/acct) and in some cases, fly them together.

Examples:
Your main is PvPing out in 0.0. You can leave another account in empire to manage your trading, BPOs, etc.
Your main is mining. Your alt hauls.
Etc.
It really isn't much cash, though I personally only have one. I do use trial accounts every once in a while to check prices in other regions though. - Proud member of the [23].

But presumably you can't have two instances of EVE running on the same computer at the same time, right? Run the program twice I mean. So you can only ever play one at a time?
My point being I couldn't sit there at a PC and have one player mining in low-sec space and the other guarding, right?

And one charecter which is running on my other computer with which I strip mine asteroid fields to fund the combat aspirations of my first charecter.

Aye so you do need two machines, I figured as much.

No, you don't need two computers. I'm running to clients/accounts on the same time on the same computer, and there are people out there who runs three at the same time on the same computer.
But offcourse it depends on how much memory and what CPU you have on your computer.

Edited by: HAMTRONIX on 03/11/2005 16:29:51 Adam, with a decent system you can run 2 clients at once, some run 3 and possible 4, an old corpy of mine would regularly run 3-4 on mining ops, no chance in pvp though. There are quite a few discussions on this. Use http://www.eve-search.com/ to find them!

Of course you don't need two computers.
I've run as many as 3 accounts on one computer at a time, quite easily. I know a guy who has run 6. - Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Tkdzzix on 03/11/2005 22:33:57 I run 3 accounts for mining, #1 is in a vexor with 4 miner II's and a small pile of mining drones, #2 is in an iteron mk IV moving the ore from the jetcan as #1 tosses it in, and #3 is flying a Maller killing the rats that show up and picking up loot. Makes it so I can mine in .5 space with no problems and not have to mess around with swapping out the mining drones for combat drones.. just keep on happily mining away.
Most of the time I'm running 3 pc's (well 2 desktops and a laptop). but when my wife wants her PC back I dual log the miner and the hauler on the same pc.

Most interesting, since I'm getting a new PC in the next week or so I might have to try it out. Thanks all.

I can run my two accounts off a laptop and know of some who can run upto 4, though granted, they need a beast of desktop to do so. In my case, with a laptop, I have to log off one account if I am going into combat as I do find that things get quiet laggy, especially if both characters are in the same system.
