How about a frigate which has command links built in the hull... T1 and T2. Introduce new skill, RACIAL command frigate.
They are on grid boosting only, and only within targeting range.
just an idea... People talk about risk vs reward, 3 words: off grid boosters! EVE is not based on risk vs reward, its based on time vs fun. |

I like the on grid part but the targeting range bit makes me worry that people will just point a couple of sensor damps at them to render them useless. As for the overall idea of frig sized boosters, I think it could be interesting as an addition to frig roams. |

According to CCP Fozzie, on-grid boosting is currently possible, but if it's switched on the servers will melt. The game code needs to be dealt with first, and that's what they're doing. Bringing POSes into the second decade, bringing links ongrid, making terrible things less terrible, all of this stuff comes with dealing with the game code and it's a long, difficult project. Until then, we have to live with the reality of off-grid boosts.
If you want a command link frigate, say something like "It can fit only one link and only gives 1% boost". If it gives more than that, then there'll be no real reason to fly a boosting T3 or even a Command Ship. It would also seem excessively powerful for something that's only frigate-sized. |

in the context of not having on grid as an option, that would be right..
But if we could have an 'in targeting range' boosting frig... it should be better than any off grid booster. if it only effects ships in its range... It should be cheap to train for but put you on the path to the BC version... It should be reasonably easy to threaten, but not so weak that it has to retreat from a civilian railgun.
A single boost would be appropriate.
I'd even like to see a cruiser version of an on grid/in targeting range booster thats cheap to train for... People talk about risk vs reward, 3 words: off grid boosters! EVE is not based on risk vs reward, its based on time vs fun. |

i came up with the idea of a new destroyer based SubCommand ship months ago. it has either 1 active link (or alot of reduction to power grid/consumption on multiple links) or a new passive mod thats always on but is a reduction in boost.
that would introduce a new passive mod skill which could be trained up..
call it like 5/8 of normal boost and +5% per level of passive boost would bring it to around 75% of a regular command ship.
destroyers would be like their command counter parts, only for smaller/fast fleets.
if u search SubCommand, you can read on it. we thought it was a good idea... |

I'd sooner see support ships in the frigate lineup with bonuses for sensor boosters, tracking links, heat dispersion(?), etc... to go along with our new logi frigates.
If they are going to expand the command links to a T1 level ship, it should be Battleships. |
