I think that the storage facility where my medical clone is stored has malfunctioned. I have filed a complaint but sense my immediate health doesnt seem to be affected, it is not likely to get much attention.
The problem is this. I cant remember how i got here in New Eden. I cant remember how I came to be a capsuleer. As long as I can remember I have just been a capsuleer and before that, nothing. I just woke up one day and I was. So i am interested in information that would shed some light on my origins. Was I chosen to be a capsuleer? Or did i originate as a clone? Do any of you remember a life before being a capsuleer?
Any information leading to any answers would be greatly appreciated ! |

Have you talked to your doctor? You should probably talk to your doctor.
Do you ... feel like murdering a high-ranking political official? Or perhaps... taking revenge on someone for killing your family? These are all classic symptoms of whatever the **** is wrong with you. |

I had a family? This is news. I hate to think they might have been murdered. How do you know this? |

I remember my life before being a capsuleer. I went to Royal Amarr Institute and studied a lot, graduated and then they said "okay you are in the top whatever percent of graduates you can be a capsuleer now". Before then I went to school and was basically just an annoying little child (which as you can see I've largely retained hahahahaha).
Anyway the memories aren't that interesting so you're probably not missing much. With cloning these mistakes happen, a lost memory here, a failed activation there... just deal and move on and be glad you weren't that Yanaka chick or whatever her name is who got screwed over way worse than you.

It's because I'm a doctor. (Disclaimer: I am not a doctor).
Seriously, though, yeah, that's not normal. You're supposed to remember your life before uploading. Otherwise how can you secretly ponder, in a cold sweat in the dead of night, whether you're actually you or if that sweet, innocent young thing you used to be committed suicide just so their clone-descendant could make ungodly amounts of money and hang out with other horrible space people.
And if we have to do it, why the hell should you not have to suffer, too? |

You're a terrible person; now I'm going to have to ponder this, and it will keep me up for weeks. "This is our way of wisdom, warrior. To be true. To be full. I think you need to be less focused on whether everyone else can remember their past lives and more on regaining your own. You were human once, but then you became something more; it's impossible to just create a clone from nothing.
However, if your entire consciousness was not transferred into the clone, I believe it will be impossible to regain it. Better hit the books. Dr. Nicolas A. Merovech Warrant Officer The Synenose Accord |

I've heard insanely rare cases of clones waking up with total amnesia save for skills, as well as clones waking up with completely different consciousnesses. As far as cloning has come, even since the first capsuleers, retaining consciousness is still an experimental, at times, facette of the whole process we undergo. Sir;
I myself supper total retrograde and partial anteriograde amnesia due to a cloning accident some four years ago. I sympathize with you and hope that your memories can be recovered. If you would like I can get you in contact with the medical team which assisted in my recovery, as they have been (and continue to be) an enormous help in my regaining and retaining as much of my memory as possible. On a personal note, I would suggest you start writing a diary. It's wonderful for keeping things in memory. |

That seems incredibly inefficient compared to maintaining a remote and regularly updated back-up of memory data.

Engram backup is a good emergency protocol, but only helpful in specific situations - when an irreparable fault occurs which results in an inoperable decision network, normally due to the formation of small-scale cycles. This will result in grand seizures and an inability to come to decisions. In this case, pulling from backup will lose the most recent data set, but it is a good backup.
This doesn't work very well at all in trying to maintain ones' own mind, however. One can't implant a partial engram without tremendous surgery and very specific implants which do not exist in the current easily-attached Capsuleer constellation of implants. They would have to be specially-designed for the situation. Cost-effectiveness suggests that a detailed diary will be more effective, and less costly, at reinforcing the specific activation potentials of the involved neurons.
You can consider it much like exercise for your brain, ma'am. It is important to keep fit, and ones' mind is no exception to this. |

Well from an economical aspect that's hard to argue with. But what is the fun in that kind of thinking with the kind of wealth we can amass? GÖÑ

It's less a question of wealth and more a question of practicality. Unless one is willing to throw away a few billion ISK on every memory in order to get a map detailed enough for reconstruction, it's just not feasible to do.

Listen, I'm sorry, I know this is very serious and you're giving someone valuable medical advice, and that makes you a good person. Or a slightly less terrible, terrible space person.

I love this, though. "grand seizures, and an inability to come to decisions."

Quote:This will result in grand seizures and an inability to come to decisions. I love this, though. "grand seizures, and an inability to come to decisions." I apologize, perhaps I was choosing improper words. In this context I was using the term 'decision' to mean a resolution of a decision matrix. An inability to come to decisions in this context is along the lines of 'I conclude that this convoluted mass of colour and edges is a face', or 'I decide that I will respond to this bright light by dilating my pupils.' These are not conscious decisions, but they are certainly decisions. The end results can vary widely, from schizophrenia to coma.
I guess it is funny, if you look at it as conscious decisions only :) |

Not to belittle the possibility of a legitimate medical issue, but you wouldn't be the first capsuleer I've seen whose memory of their old life dropped out of mind from disuse. Your public records say you've been a pod pilot for over a year and a half now, and for most of us that new existance is orders of magnitude more active and memorable. A beautiful sunset from your youth can seem pale in comparison to witnessing something like the Cloud Ring, leadership of some school sports team childish in comparison to commanding a fleet. Deceptively easy for those memories to be displaced. My advice? I'm sure you already have, but just trawl all the way back through whatever mail accounts you can have. See if you can't request your records from the University of Caille. Also if you do find them maybe glaze over the whole 'I completely forgot about you in my rush of technological immortality' thing. |

Any information leading to any answers would be greatly appreciated ! I remember everything before I di.. before I became a capsuleer, unfortunately.
But what you don't remember, I don't think it is malfunction, or any illness. It is a blessing. Just some parts of your previous life wasn't transferred to your clone, I mean, to you.
Do you know, that to become a capsuleer, you have to die? Whatever caused your decision to join the program, I am pretty sure that it wasn't very nice. I would recommend you to forget about getting information about former self.
Who knows, maybe it was your own decision to not copy your memories.
So, just enjoy your new life, pilot. |
