Same black screen over here but......cleaning the cache didn't work..... Going to wait another 15 minutes or else going to report a bug.

See if your video card driver needs to be updated... you never know.

Im having same issues. But they just started today. No problems with drivers or anything from day 1. But as of the 3 hour downtime, I havnt been able to get past the login screen. Sometimes, it loads up to the station im in, but then it crashes to a black screen - can still hear the sounds going on in the game, but I can see anything. Ctrl alt Del has no effect, and this crash requires a hard reboot. Ive updated everything, and rolled back everything... reinstalled eve etc, etc, etc....

Edited by: tsikibriki on 10/11/2005 13:28:00 I had similar problem. Reinstalled windowsxp (preinstalled sp2). Installed drivers - sata, net, video, sound, chipset. Installed eve, run it, black screen. I was like .. wtf.. didnt have that problem before. Installed officexp (w/o outlook and frontpage). Run eve - whoa! worked. Strange..

I had the same problems as well, it started after I unistalled some software from my PC (old games)
I deleted the pc.dat file in the settings folder of cache and that fixed the login.
When I read the file it stores things like fonts etc. I dont know why deleting other programs should stop eve from running but it did.

I have the same problem on my desktop computer.
Desktop: ATI Radeon 9800 pro. AMD 64 4000+ 1 GB ram Standard soundcard.
I start up eve. Go into intro. 10 seconds in, black screen and crashes. Reboot is necessary. Complete lockup. A second way I did it was just hit esc when the intro pops up. I get into character creation screen, click around. Same thing, 10 seconds in. Black screen and crashes. Reboot is necessary, complete lock up.
I updated windows, graphics drivers, directx, cleared cache and did that advanceddevice=1 thing. Nothing works. Same crap, blackness.
I installed it on my inspiron 700m laptop. Good laptop, but horrible graphics card. It does not meet part with Eve. I actually got into tutorial and started playing. The laptops specs are.
Intel 1.6 Ghz. Integrated Graphics 512 ram. Standard Soundcard.
Why does it work? I have no clue. It's a mystery. My desktop specs are clearly better than my laptops. And yet my desktop wont run eve.
I've tried almost about everything. This is my first day on Eve and I was very excited to start a new kind of MMO. I would really like a solution as soon as possible. And don't want to regret dishing out money for a broken game.

Try changing your ram timings if you know how to work within the bios and also how to clear your cmos if you mess up. This is the only thing ive found yet, that has given me possitive results

Edited by: roanx on 11/11/2005 14:15:46 I'm not messing with bios, I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to install drivers multiple times nor install the infamous MS Service pack. I should just beable to install the game and run like World of Warcraft and every other game I play. Any other type of possible solutions?
Is it possible to get a refund?

Okay. I found a problem. I think.
When it crashed I opened up my case and touched the heatsink of my videocard. It BURNED.
So not only does Eve not work but its potentially harmful to my computer! > <
