A friend of mine know a guy that told him that there is some hidden bonus when ranking a skill to lvl 5? I know, noob question and I apologize for this, but I just want to proove my point that there is no such thing as "hidden" bonus.
The example he gave me was the armor compensation hardener skill that grants more than 5% going from rank 4 to 5 and that it's making a huge difference.

Your friend is mistaken. It does exactly what it says it does.
Resistance math confuses some people, might be where he's getting lost. |

"The guy that your friend knows" may be referring to the way that certain skills' scaling makes each skill rank more effective than the previous skill rank in relative terms. In general this is true for all skills which provide a beneficial reduction in recharge or cycle time from e.g. 100% -> 75%.
For example, take Energy Systems Operation: "5% reduction in capacitor recharge time per skill level"
If your ship normally takes 100s to recharge 100GJ of energy, that's 1GJ/s. The effect of Energy Systems Operation 1-V would be:
- ESO I: 95% recharge time = 100GJ/95 = 1.052 GJ/s (+0.052)
- ESO II: 90% recharge time = 100GJ/90 = 1.111 GJ/s (+0.059)
- ESO III: 85% recharge time = 100GJ/85 = 1.176 GJ/s (+0.065)
- ESO IV: 80% recharge time = 100GJ/80 = 1.250 GJ/s (+0.074)
- ESO V: 75% recharge time = 100GJ/75 = 1.333 GJ/s (+0.083)
As you can see, each successive rank actually provides more absolute recharge than the previous rank.
Other examples include Shield Operation, Rapid Firing, MIssile Launcher Operation, Rapid Launch, Gunnery, etc. |

what your friend means is that the effective hit points you get from going from armour comp IV-V is greater than what you get from what you get from III-IV
the resistance you gain is exactly the same. |

It isn't well known but Aura, the ships computer, finds the skill training process to be somewhat arousing (in a way that only another being of pure intellect would understand). She tries to stay professional but you can sort of hear it in her voice during the "skill training complete" announcement when she finishes downloading the skill from her databank into your brain. I don't know if you'd call that a 'bonus' but I suppose it depends on your point of view.

Anything that reduces something by a % gets progressively better with more ranks.
For example, Rapid Fire. 4% per level
Rapid Fire 0 - 1 shot every 10 seconds. Rapid Fire 1 - 1 shot every 9.6 seconds. Rapid Fire 2 - 1 shot every 9.2 seconds. Rapid Fire 3 - 1 shot every 8.8 seconds. Rapid Fire 4 - 1 shot every 8.4 seconds. Rapid Fire 5 - 1 shot every 8.0 seconds.
From 0 ->1 is a 4.00% extra benefit. From 1 ->2 is a 4.17% extra benefit. From 0 ->3 is a 4.35% extra benefit. From 0 ->4 is a 4.55% extra benefit. From 0 ->5 is a 4.76% extra benefit.
As you can see, more ranks = bigger boost. It's minor, but there. Works the same with resistances and generally anything that reduces, rather than increases something. |

Maybe the "hidden" bonus in some cases is that at level 5 you can train the specialization skill, which unlocks the T2 module. |

You never get any kind of hard, direct bonus, like the 5th rank increasing the effect of the preious ranks, but sometimes it's like Derath said and you can then train an advanced skill that further improves the same area, or you might gain access to a new module. For that kind of information under 'show info' for a given skill, look at the 'required for' or 'prerequisite for' tab.
Lastly, the other sort of 'hidden bonus' people talk about is going to be things like being able to fit an extra salvger, maybe it's the last thing you need to make a fit cap stable, or just finally being able to haul a whole jetcan in a single trip. |

Another big one was Recon ships, recon ships level 5 used a lot less CPU for the cloak, so you opened up a lot of extra fitting opportunities. |

The biggest example would be salvaging 5.
You get T1 mod at L4 gets 5%x4 which is = 20% chance. T2 mod at L5 gets 7%x5 which is 35% chance.
So L5 is 75% more then L4 due to the module. |

That is bigger, but I've always been fond of EGU 5 here. It doesn't do much at all on its own, but the sudden availability of RCU IIs (50% better than meta 4) can open up a surprising number of its. |

Another great one is Drones 5, since it allows training of the best drone support skills and the racial specilizations. Basically the difference between drone dps and drone IV and Drone V + an additional days traing maybe double damage.

As has been explained, it's just how percentages work. It's easier if you think about it in terms of damage you take.
See if you can follow this
Say a rat does 1000 damage per hit.
If with your current setup you have let's say 75% resistance, then you will take 250 damage.
Now you upgrade your skill to level 4, and you end up with a total of 80% resistance. You will now take 200 damage. If you look at it, at first glance you would say "duh" what's your point. Well point is, going from 75% to 80% resistance REDUCED THE REAL DAMAGE YOU TAKE BY 20% (from 250 to 200).
Now you train your skill to level 5, your resistance goes to 85%. Damage you take becomes 150 instead of 200. You've now decreased the damage you take by 25%, compared to previous rank that reduced the damage by 20%.
In short, the closer you get to 100%, every point of more valuable than the previous.
