How do you actually do when taking down a POS? Just run in and tank the defence and fire away?
What happends then?`Do you have to stay and shoot at it until it runs out fo Stronthium? Is there any way of speeding up the process by bringing in some more firepower?
Is there any other way for the POS owner to defend it than just by bringing in an counter-fleet?
I'm a complete noob so bare with me :P

Strontium makes it unlockable when in reinforce mode. What you do is get a fleet of gankageddons or the like, and shoot until it dies. Boring. - Proud member of the [23].

Every POS has a Force-field. Its to keep the one's inside safe. And to keep the people without the password outside the forcefield. (note: Forcefield isn't there when the tower is offline)
Its possible to Anchor weapons to protect your POS even more. Its like fitting a ship, every thing u bring online together with the POS tower takes CPU/powergrid. I believe some of the things even need fuel.
If u want to take the POS down, its easyer to make sure its not being fueled (so it will go offline eventually). This way u wont have to tank sentries for a few hours while shooting it with a big fleet.. ------------------------------------ I AM....YOUR MOTHER.... |

A large tower has around 50 million points of shield. It (usually) has a stockpile of strontium clathrates to create a 'buffer' to allow the owners to respond to an attack.
To kill - shoot lots to take it to 25%. Come back when the strontium has run out (if you time it right, it won't have recharged enough shield to go into re-inforced again, and have been replenished)
Tanking POS guns ... well depends what kind of guns you're facing. It's doable, if the POS is lightly defended or you bring plenty of ships. More likely you'll be taking fire, tanking it a while and warping clear. (Well, unless you've dreadies, they _should_ be able to tank)
'active' defense, an opposition fleet is effective, as is plenty of EW - the more they cut down your firepower, the longer it takes you to knock down the tower, and the more time you spend trading fire with the POS guns.
Passive recharge of a POS is a peak of 625 dps (raw) so it doesn't actually take all that many battleships to kill it. (of course, with 50% resistances that doubles :))

Do what we (corp) did. Wait for the guy owning the pos to unanchor it, nick one of their haulers at the pos, then scoop the pos and away on your toes. Simple.

Ok, thanks for the info.
So if I get this right, it really doenst matter if you drag in a 50+ BS-fleet when the POS is in reinforced mode. It wont speed up the usage of Strontium. So the idea is to keep it in reinforced mode to prevent any fueling and the destroy/grab it when it goes offline?

Think of the medieval days of siege warfare. Enemies would surround a castle and cut it off from any supplies, especially food.
The idea was to starve them out. A POS is similar to a castle, with a reserve of "supplies", in this case Strontium. Surround the castle, starve it out, and it will fall eventually if the siege is not lifted.

It's even more so. Even neglecting strontium, a tower consumes a notable amount of fuel each week. A blockade is also liable to be remarkably effective.

Apparently, they're not allowed to be refuelled while they are in reinforced mode. So, if you know it only has strontium to keep it un-lockable for 24 hours, you come back in 24 hours.
The trouble is, the whole system is bugged to hell and gone. Sometimes the timer is wrong, sometimes the strontium gets eaten at twice the speed it should do, sometimes they don't even go into reinforced mode...
