The "SOL" nodes are the nodes that actually run the simulation of the Eve game world. It does all the calculations and work necessary to make the world happen, and keep it going. It's the SOL nodes that decide what's going to happen and when. The SQL simply provides storage of the game state, which the SOL nodes can query and update. The proxies simply take the network routing load off the SOL nodes.
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

The possiblities are just endless. But with CCP 'System Off Line' and '**** out of Luck' are both likely.

wonder how they break up the EVE server, for example in Everquest while they have the different "World Servers" each one of those is 100+ 1U rack units. however in a single world, zoneless game i wonder how they handle the load unless they "silently" zone you when you do things like use a Stargate.

thank you, but that means there is no interconnectivity between two SOLs?
you cannot query another Ships immediate state unless you are in the same SOL, as it would be inefficient to update back to SQL every change? or am i wrong?

I'd imagine so, because if you go 'agressive' in Gondista, the System bleow Shaline don't know. If you agress and get sentry fire in Shaline will be agressed in VAN too, but not Gondista.
