Toon is still there, but given to a RL friend who still runs 3 accounts in SWG, he's only staying until he completes all the badges....

Hi, Finally checking on this thread. We were a guild called SOCOM from Kauri, and I quit on just when the NGE came out and killed all us Creature Handlers. But enough about that horrid game. We started playing EvE on 11.24.05 and never looked back.
Just wondering, how many of us saw the light and stuck with EvE and are still playing since this thread was started?

Ahhh, pre-NGE SWG was great, it literally broke my heart to see my character obliterated.
Hav'ok Nightstar, Master Image Designer/Master Swordsman from Farstar, currently loving EVE, who'd have thought mining would be so much fun?
we should make a SWG channel in EVE to remember the good ol' days.

I was less than a week away from unlocking Jedi when they brought out the first CU a week early.
Blew my stack at that and left in digust for a while...then came back and tried to get the last few boxes for unlocking, and then when i was under 1 box away, NGE came out and made the whole thing pointless
Found the Jedi had lost their uniqueness, there was no challenge to getting it..and the gutting of so many professions, which is one of many reasons I joined to start with. Then they come back with the adding of elites skills to jedi, which kinda nullified the point of removing all the professions.
What they did to the game, and the community is disgraceful. I for one will not play another SOE game as a result.
But this game, reminds me a lot of Elite, a game from my youth...played on a BBC B with a 5 1/4" floppy drive...

Hello. Another SWG refugee reporting in.
I was Tiwaz/Tregon on couple servers, can't remember names. I was guild MSW too... Damn I loved being crafter in SWG. Then they ruined the game. So I guess I have to start building up new crafting empire in EVE... As soon as I get my CC I'm off to pay for permanent flight lisence.

I cancelled my SWG account in march, and it wasn't because of the NGE.
I cancelled because the game never was, nor will ever be what I wanted it to be, which is the star wars universe.
I hated the jedi horde, I hated the lines of doctor buffs, I hated everybody wearing compy armour, and I hated that most people didn't even bother to try and keep the star wars feel.
Most of the people whinging about a rollback don't care about star wars, they just want the game they were good at back.
I realised that even the CU and the NGE couldn't stop players stomping all over my fantasy world, so I left for a world I cared a little less about, a'la Eve.

I was with SWG from launch. I cancelled late last year. I did the grind for 2 years (under 3 ruleset changes) to become a full template Jedi. SOE screwed me and I will never buy another game from them.
Since I left I went back to UO and have been waiting for PotBS to be released. I started EvE six days ago.
BTW I was Owsley on SWG/Starsider. That name was taken in EvE, so now I'm Owsley Stanley

I'm Harotak on starsider and Ostat on bria. I still play SWG but have just started playing EVE.
The NGE didnt really do anything to me since all I ever did was fly anyway. Space PVP in SWG is still as good as always.
EVE looks like its going to be alot deeper in combat tactics though. I just want to keep played SWG for the twitch dogfighting.
Now if only EVE were to come out with some kind of fighter-pilot expansion...

Another SWG casualty checking in. Ahazi server, Smiloo, master weaponsmith/harvester extrordinaire and Surloo, master TK/Pistoleer.
I left shortly after JTL. I enjoyed it, until I realized that X-Wing Alliance was still a much better game. Went on to WOW as a day one account. Finally got fed up with the guild bickering/40 man loot-whoring and tried EVE on the 14 day trial. Signed up with 10 days left on the trial!

Mandash Grim from Starsider - "The Unofficial Roleplaying Sever" - here. Loved the freedom and the concepts wrapped up in the initial SWG design. Never entirely were realized before they were scrapped. Have to admit I miss having an human avatar, and animated emotes, and ships with a view. Damn, I miss my YT-1300, with its rendered interior, interactive stations, and my crew. I miss my player city that we planned out in detail before SWG went live and built up even before city code was implimented.
But that's all ancient history now and Eve nails the important things SWG could only aspire to - meaningful economies, player driven politics and territorial warfare, flexible ship designs that aren't always an obvious A > B equation, and so forth. Not to mention the vast improvement that AURORA is over the "imagineers" of SWG. I think they were called that because we were supposed to imagine they really existed.

I came here from SWG, too. Can't remember the server.
I was Dusre. One of the 'New Players' that was going to 'Save the Day' by loving the complete lack of a skill system, absent customer support and in-game help that whittered on about how to use skills that had been removed from the game months before.
I went through the missions and got my character (one of the new NGE bastardised Jedi wannabes) up to the low 40s level wise before getting sick of not being able to do anything other than hit things and nick their stuff. Even when I played UO I could do some crafting even if that game did get destroyed by the composite bow farce (IMO). |

SWG:CU was and prbbly always will be my favorite game. I unsubbed very shortly after the NGE went live. SWG:CU was ******* beautiful. SWG:NGE stinks of old cheap LucasArts games.

In SWG you used a joystick for space flight, not click on a point in space. Was more of a flight sim. I think this is what he means.

Also ex SWG, damn SOE! Played on Ahazi also as Sjonnie D, quit within a week of NGE! glad i didn't purchase trials of Obiwan! saved me having to claim a refund!! started just before CU happened and loved the game, plenty of freedom to do anything with your character, the ability to play solo or in groups as and when you wanted, player bases, crafting etc..... NGE turned it into a console game!
Came here via DDO, found it to samey and restrictive. Not enough scope to keep me interested
Found EVE now same kind of thing as SWG, plenty of scope and freedom, not just stuck to killing endless hordes on monsters! Played the 14 day trial for 5 days before signing up! loving it!!

I just came here from SWG too ..kinda, Did WoW in the meanwhile lol..but that wasnt my thing..
Played on eclipse and IGN was Badrien

A friend convinced me to play SWG with him for a month. Previous to that my only experience with MMOs was the eve 2 week trial. All I can say is sometimes it takes a bad game for one to really appreciate how good a great game is.

Ahazi Vet here as well of 3 years...was running PharmaIsis Inc. Loads of fun...running a business niche. Been here for about 2 months now and now going to redo a character cause i messed up on my main :D. But its fun learning all the ropes and starting all over...Unlike SWG NGE.

Still playing Eve now, I've done pretty much the same thing here as I did in SWG, got stuck right in 24/7 for a while, then had a break (still subbing though) and now I'm back with a renewed vigour
