We are experiencing a number of node deaths due to optimization hotfixed deployed in today's downtime.
We're on the mother.

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 22/11/2005 19:29:49 So like, same hotfix that fuxed the server last time in an identical way by chance ?
*sigh*
Why do we have crappy stuff like this every other day now yet never had it a year ago ?
edit: oh, and no, lack of foresight is no excuse. Poor performance on CCP's part this whole lag/node/proxy debacle of the last half year tbh. _______________________________________________

Edited by: Emily Spankratchet on 22/11/2005 19:31:01 Many thanks for the prompt info.
Nice to see that the hotfixes are still working so well.
(No fair starting a new thread, though, I was hoping my thread would become the 'official' server problem whine thread. )
(Edit: Yay! My original whine has been stickied. Go Kieron!)

Shouldnt be optimazation something positive?
Seriously though these hotfixes lately have been messing up the server big time, maybe the devs should test them on a mini model of TQ first to be sure.. thats at least what I would have done.

I don't work for any MMOs (currently), but I would imagine they do that very thing indeed, before releasing it to the public.
I recall SOE once released a PS patch that was borked and messed up some people's login clients. Complete reinstall/repatching. Some people had to do it repeatedly, as it is rumored. (Was before my time in PS) ________________ SPACE FOR RENT Inquire Ingame |

Of greater concern to me is that these hotfuxes are deployed with no documentation anywhere as to what they're supposed to be fixing. I've said it before in that last hotfix thread that fell off the front page of the forums, the patch notes, in their current implementation and upkeep, are completely useless.

Well yeah, they test em obviously, why otherwise have a quality assurance guy unless he can at least attempt to assure quality
Anyways, never mind my earlier whine, but i decided to resub for another 3 months recently yet wonder if by that time this game will be playable at all :/ _______________________________________________

Can't be as bad as some games, like PS, where the lag (and Client-Side hit detection) kill you before you even see the guy. Or when you get a whopping 6 FPS just for being on the same MAP as the major fighting (read: only fight).
Nah, I don't miss it one bit. ________________ SPACE FOR RENT Inquire Ingame |

Well nobody has noticed any problems playing this afternoon on TQ, which means it must be a problem that only kicks in under heavy load. How exactly would you propose testing this?

One would think that CCP could write a test script to load 3000 clients onto their test node and start doing random things to simulate server load like warping and shooting stuff.

Yeah, but even then, they can't truly simulate the game with bots, because bots (for example) wouldn't move around and pull the stunts we do. And even still, I think the LOWEST in-game pop I've ever seen after pulling a good 20 hour day was 2600. And I was switching between 3 account clients (my comp only handles 2 at once) so much logging in/out. ________________ SPACE FOR RENT Inquire Ingame |

Yet again the sever have problems! When are thes problems going to be found on the TEST SERVER, and not tried and tested on Tranquility Server! These bugs should NEVER find there way onto the main server.
Currently have 1 stuck Character and no market for the other! We all no a reboot is coming, so please just fix and do it asap :)
