Does it still outside of Wormholes? If so, anyone know where?
I was just wondering because a friend of mine said it rarely happens anymore. A lot of mining is still in high-sec space because miners in general are too afraid of the loss. |

short answer... yes..
When I work, I mine in Hi-Sec as I'm doing other things with the mining. When at home, I use my Null ships and mine in Null (Yes, I have a Null fleet and a Hi fleet, which includes Orcas for each).

Actually, all null sec mining is done outside wormholes.

No. Unless your part of a mega corperation holding SOV or an alliance, then no one is doing mining in low or null, it is far too impossible now that they ruined grav sites for the rest of us.
The only people able to do it are ones that have armed guards and are deep inside their own blue space protected by their friends with gate camps and roamining parties, pirates, and cloaked ships. Everyone else got screwed. Take a look around.
Anyone that tells you otherwise is protected by their buddies and will tell you its the greatest thing ever, completely neglecting to tell you that (since you aren't like them) you will die if you try.
Everyone gets ran out of low and null who isen't part of the power 5 megacorperations that are raping and destroying EvE.
Industry and freelances have been robbed of any aspirations they have to travel to those parts and unless your part of the problem, you will not do any mining anywhere but high sec. |

In fact it is a little bit irrelevant whether the grav sites can be scanned or not, all it takes is some decent astrometrics skills to find the miner. Meanwhile the miner has to spam the directional scanner to check for probes and to be aligned to somewhere ready to warp. Now this kind of activity might appeal to some wholies(who generally do pve sites and mine if they really have nothing better to do) but is has little importance overall. |

I don't understand that buzz about the sites being visible in ship scanner.
When there was some griefer and he really wanted to kill you, it took him few mintues to scan down all gravimetrics in system, he bookmarked them, left system, come back in hour and warp directly to the BM .... easy work. Nothing changed really.
And miners who kept mining AFTER the neut entered the system was asking to get ganked .... because you never know if he got it probed or not allready.
Sarah : if you are such businessman and industrialist and you want profit, you can allways rent some system ... take it as investment in your business and mine. |

Fact is now this can be done on the first time entering the system without any additional effort. Mining is such a tedious activity that it is impossible for miners to stay alert in a way that is done by PvEers for example. You WILL stop to pay attention because CCP designed it to be this way! So if you are trying something like this somewhere in semi-safe space you will get omfgraped hard and quick. |

No, it is very relevant. However, what you just said isen't. If you actually believe that taking away a miners ability to know when someone is hunting them down is not relevant, then you either simply do not know what your talking about, have an agenda, or you just never mined anywhere but high sec. Period.

Ninja mining, I understand, is a concept few are truely familiar with and even fewer have done. However, when you have several barges in a scanned field and you are watching local like a hawk, you know who sticks around, how long they stay for, if they dropped probes, if they come back, how long they come back for and in what type of ship. All of that is purely relevant when your ship and pod depend upon it.
It is extremely rare for someone to already have it bookmarked, and if they drop the probes to scan you down, then you are aware that they are up to no good and definitely hunting you down. Your mining op is over once this occurs, however, a great deal of people neither take the time or have the training to deploy the probes and hunt you down especially in a large system, and if you have the right amount of ships a grav site can be grinded down relatively quickly.
It mattered a great deal to anyone that knew what they were doing, to those that don't, then I guess getting warped in on without warning is a great alternative. |

Thought I would chime in the topic here based on what I found the past couple of nights.
I'm a pirate and I went deep into null-sec near my home system. I found a few mining spots of my own that were owned by the alliance ROGUE. These guys were mining with some good reinforcements in the area that quickly locked me down when I entered the systems. We played a good bit of cat and mouse until finally, I made a mistake and they caught me. Luckily I took two ships with me before I exploded. My gains were not more than my losses, but it was pretty close.
From my perspective as a pirate before this change, you cannot catch anyone mining in these sites if you have to probe them out. There is entirely TOO MUCH downtime going on to allow those miners to leave the site for good and never return. The new system on the other hand gives me enough time to find a good opportunity to catch someone as soon as I enter the system.
This seems fair to me because by the time I enter a system and the time I come out of warp, you should be gone. If you're not, then that's your own fault for mining AFK or not paying attention. To think that you should have no risk while mining in null-sec is silly. The same goes for thinking there is any risk in the old way where we had to probe you out.
Furthermore, I should mention, there is multiple sites in a system and that still leaves a load of time to get out. Almost every mining system I entered, the mining fleet made it out in time and was sitting in their little protective bubble.

Drop a bubble(s) and abandon some tech 1 drones at the warp-in. That solves much of the problem of mining in null. |

Oh, and one more thing.
It takes ZERO effort to see someone and local and warp out. It took a HUGE AMOUNT of effort to probe you out.

Totally agree with this sentiment, CCP has created a "tall poppy" in the 0.0 sectors of space and refuse to allow any other kinds of gameplay into it. The same people who are voted into CSM each and every year, why be so amazed that no real changes occur ?
I have played for 8 years and have watched over and over the almost same patch notes year after year.
Their idea of nerfing jump bridges to stop the oppressive powerbases was to allow only 1 per system, what a joke.
And yet dig their heels in at small changes like fixing refinery arrays so they can be used in low-sec to some advantage, or taxation on minerals at corporation levels. CSM7 Skype Leak

I think the idea is that you become powerful enough to go out there and get rid of them. "Does the Eagle know what is in the pit, Or wilt thou go ask the Mole? so what you're trying to tell us, is that people who put effort in to taking, and holding sov, get to mine all the nice juicy null sec ores instead of any random miscreant that happens upon a system in 0.0?
sounds fair to me. |

No what he said was that people who were ninja mining in low sec and NPC 0.0 can no longer do it and now can only mine in HS, personally I have no issue with the major power blocks being able to mine very effectively in their space. I guess next on their target list will be the module drops on rats, so that this will disappear for the independent operating in NPC 0.0, or what about removing hauler spawns in NPC 0.0, can't let the little guy operate in Eve can we after all this is a team game and if you are not part of some winning team you should not expect to be able to play effectively! If you do not want LOCAL go to WH space, its as simple as that!-á-á-á-á-á-á-á There are people who think that WH space is like 0.0 but without local, well they should light a cyno and try jumping to it. |
