Just fly logi in fleets, everyone will like you if you keep them alive. alot of players always say Thanks Logi.
you could always play the lap dog game. and buy everyone ships but then again. that's not a good idea.
Just be yourself listen in on convo's of your alliance people. get into what their talking about.
or just put this in local

I am not going for Eve-fame or anything, I just would like to not have blues shoot at me and call me names in alliance chat anymore.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

Alrighty, then.
And people wonder why they get smart remarks and cautious, defensive or trepid help in EVE-0 GD.
Welp, maybe someone else will learn from the thread. There was actually some good advice here. |

question is, why would you ever care if a community in the web world likes you or not? most people here don't even act like they do in game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNReV76PtqM |

I don't even want people to like me, because they start expecting you to show up and hang out on comms and socialize. I hate socializing!
Then why are you playing an MMO?
Well let me back up - the reason I play an MMO because unlike real life socialization, when I get tired of listening to people, I simply remove my headphones and they go away. In real life people would notice you leaving and consider you rude, on comms people hardly notice.
So anyway, ironically enough, I tend to make friends in MMO's. I've never really understood it but if my friends don't mind me suspiciously not answering their questions because I walked away unannounced 20 minutes ago to relax and watch Through the Wormhole or Archer, then it's by far the most convenient friendships I've ever had.
Oh, moral of the story I suppose: don't try too hard to make friends, it tends to have the opposite effect. |

Maybe you're trying too hard. Your reasons can be misinterpreted and result in pushing them further away.

metalravenous, the people who play this game represent a large number of personality types. Most of these types will fit, more or less comfortably, into a group of similar personality types. Some don't fit anywhere.
If you are going to find true happiness in this game, I suggest that you look for compatible personality types, rather than a group of people who do what you think you want to do. If you get into a group who does what you think you want to do, but all of them have personalities that are not compatible with yours, you just aren't going to be popular. |

I agree. 'Just be yourself' is absolutely the worst advice that one person can give another when it comes to success in friendships, romance, the workplace, politics or anything that involves human interaction.

No doubt. Many divorces are testament to getting a little too carried away with "being oneself" which essentially means, just do what makes you happy and don't try to impress.
" Sure, it's OK to sit on the couch and feed your face to oblivion and gain 50lbs in a year, dear. It really has no baring on my attraction for you or your love for even yourself. Here, have another bag. Meanwhile, I'll just wear my baggy sweatpants and t-shirt every day as it's comfortable, and the real me is all about comfort."
Now, if you both like to be couch potatoes then it's a beautiful thing.

Unless they die, and the Logi pilot learns why healers in MMOs are hard to find. ;)
My philosophy about people liking me is: if they do, fine. If they don't, fine. It's a game. In the end, when I log off, they do too.

Find something you like doing in game, meet people that also like doing that thing. You'll make friends. And be a nice person, I've made a lot of friends by being nice. keep your head down and your mouth shut.
if you can't keep your mouth shut, there's a great analysis of upvote behavior buried somewhere on the TEST forums - look for it. I'm no longer in TEST otherwise I'd link it and I don't remember the author (possibly badasskitty?) but it had some good analysis on the characteristics of popular posters and advice on how to get there.
The tl;dr was along the lines of: build a reputation by following popular posters around drafting off them. Stay away from truly controversial issues (but try to be first to the circlejerk outrage), stick to parroting uber-posters and become a familiar face. Only once you have a solid reputation you can carefully exit the slipstream and start to float your own views on some issues.
(Of course I never followed this rule myself because I can't keep my mouth shut at all, but then I also had some mass-downvoted posts to my name on the TEST forums...) |
