Fortunately, this would not be open to 'abuse' by large organized corps and alliances. This is not a signature. |

Let the majority rule?
Huoh... So you would replace 'popularity contest' with a popularity contest. Yeah, what was it about a frying pan and a fire Sable's Ammo Shop at Alentene V - Moon 4 - Duvolle Labs Factory. Hybrid charges, Projectile ammo, Missiles, Drones, Ships, Need'em? We have'em, at affordable prices. Pop in at our Ammo Shop in sunny Alentene. |

I'd like to repeat my statement, which might have been lost in the Captain Picard facepalming discussion:
This has been done in the past, google CSM Crowdsourcing.
I am actually in favor of repeating that, it wasn't a bad idea (it isn't the wholy grail of community participation either, though). |

i looked that up and it's EXACTLY the type of thing I am talking about..... It should be on a quarterly basis, or as schedule permits.

In other games, player based voted features have not worked out well. Basically players don't know what they want and don't know whats good for them or the game.
I would expect any high sec ganking to disappear pretty quickly for example along with high sec profit buffs. Before long its WoW in space. Is there something wrong with that? Well there is if your are a low sec/null sec PvP person. But not if your a high sec miner for example. Hence the problem of voting. The tyranny of the majority.
However when it comes to UI elements rather than game play issues then i think something like this can be a good idea. |

Bad
It shows they are out of touch with the game roadmap, it is a sign of desperately wanting to please.
Customers don't always make good game designers. Not that you should ignore them but using voting is not a good idea for game design.

Agreed.... it would have to be minor stuff, UI, clothes, skins, ....
Even though I play in High Sec.... I would be bummed if there wasn't at least the threat of being ganked... The High Sec Ganking system is just about perfect I think..... At least High Sec folks know the risk... and have the peace of mind, that the bad guy will at least lose their ship over it....not much - but still satisfying. ....
I lost a Freighter in the Burn Jita fun and lost about 2.7billion .... I had the satisfaction of seeing 47 kill mails....and 47 dead ships to my one freighter.... I was bummed.. but I am sort of happy it happened now, since it was a cool memory... seeing her burn....all those ships living the dream! |

Bad idea.
CCP does a good job of maintaining balance. One guess what would happen when the organized minority starts dictating play to the majority of unorganized players. This thread has so much content it may be 'Thread of the Year' and it is only January.

Yet, i think that is what is happening now... The organized minority are the posters, CSM fellows, etc...
The unorganized players who just log in to play would then have a chance to vote, if it was a popup during login. |

They vote by logging in and playing.
