Since being elected to the office of CSM Secretary, any mention of Kesper North has been suspiciously absent from CSM communications.
We heard he had a bold plan for what to do with the office.
I'd love to hear it.
But perhaps more importantly, is it about time to remove him from office for non participation? Or does someone want to brashly point out where I am wrong and full of it?
Luckily the Vices have been doing a good job. (Yay Ali! I feel rather vindicated in my support of you.) I hear rumors that Trebor is heavily engaged even if he's left the communication with the player base in Ripard's hands (on purpose or defacto? Not sure).
It is clear that at least half the CSM is engaged in talks with CCP and several speak to the playerbase through various conduits. But that leaves one spot where things seem to be glaringly amiss.
No hard feelings, Mr. North. If real life events or even in game events have overwhelmed you, it's fairly easy to understand.
Personally I thought it was an odd pick in the beginning, but was eager to see this grand plan you had that had so sold your peers. If you can't execute that at this time, perhaps you can step aside and let Ali pick it up. (Or another, whatever procedure is used to fill the vacancy.) Don't make me hand you a wizard hat. |

Hah I love it how you can complain about anything, but get dismissive if there are even the hint of attacking anything CFC.

You have no idea whatsoever if he's a no-show. Literally none. His posting activity on a forum is a tiny step above irrelevant.
Granted, I don't know if he's active or not either, but unlike you I haven't decided to act as if I do. If he's actually well and truly inactive without good reason, let the other sitting CSM members deal with it. They're the ones who will "suffer" by having a no-showing secretary. If the secretary is doing his job, you'd think he'd be visible. So that's evidence that supports the position that he's a no show. I am posting the obvious conclusion here partially to give an opportunity to refute it, which isn't happening so far. Just the usual Snow Axe knee-jerk response to to any criticism of anything vaguely CFC related.
If we have a non-functional part of the CSM, it's not just the CSM that suffers. He was supposed to be working on a how to contact CSM8 post in the first week of the term. Never materialized. Should we wait until the CSM can't get summit minutes out because Kesper's not there?
I'd like to see a CSM that actually fixes problems like this. Don't make me hand you a wizard hat. |

FYI - I don't just use the forums as a metric. I even asked about Kesper at the Town Hall. Ripard took the question and said he'd try to address it in the blog, which hasn't happened. Where has Kesper appeared? Pretty much no where. If you have evidence to the contrary, something I missed, please educate me.
Trying to brow beat me into thinking I don't have the right to have an opinion isn't going to work. If that's all you got, you can stop posting. Don't make me hand you a wizard hat. |

You can have an opinion all you want, it's just when you decide that your opinion is fact and must be acted upon that you're going to have to be ready to hear things like "do you have proof?" or more pertinent to this thread "why should we listen to you? You're in no position to actually know what's up".
Kesper may well be 100% inactive. I don't know, and neither do you. Only one of us is pretending to know and demanding action based on that. Hint: It's not me. I'd be perfectly happy to be proven wrong. I am rather interested in that grand plan of his. If he showed up now and started doing the job, I'd have no problem giving him the benefit of the doubt. As I said in my OP, it's easy to understand things overwhelming one's responsibilities here.
You saying that there's no proof that he's not active since we can see no signs of his activity is a bit odd though, a real stretch in logic. Demanding actual evidence that he is inactive is like asking me to disprove the flying spaghetti monster (may you be touched by his noodly appendage).
I am not actually demanding action, btw. I am raising a question if now is the time for action. I am stating what I do know, which is that all the other officers and several of the other CSM8 members have significantly higher visibility than this key member. Asking for confirmation or rebuttal. And asking if it is time to make a change.
Not entirely surprised you don't see the subtle difference. Although it is interesting that you criticized and questioned the CSM all of last year, but suddenly now shouting down others who want to know if there is something wrong at least when CFC candidates are questioned. Biased much?

I'll say this as simply as possible: When you make allegations, it's on you to prove them. If you don't have proof (which you don't), don't expect anyone to take your allegations seriously. You can vomit up as much half-digested HURR FUKKEN CFC word salad as you like, but it's not going to change the above. Short of drawing you a picture, I'm not sure what else there is to do. Every time I asked you to prove your allegation and you realizing you couldn't - every one of those times is when you maybe should have clued in to the fact that you can't ever prove a CSM's activity level, and thus have no place to accuse anyone. Instead you just keyed in on my alliance name and tried to turn it into some kind of damage control conspiracy thing instead of realizing that you were off base from the word go, and probably never should have made this stupid, stupid thread.

I can actually prove quite a few CSM's level of activity, or at least provide varying levels of evidence to support that they are in fact active. The fact that I can't for Kesper is what begs the question.
Boorishly insisting that I prove a negative before speaking is a logical fallacy, and an intimidation tactic.

The only question it begs is "does a non-CSM member have enough information to determine whether or not a CSM member is truly active or not?".

You are right on one level. We cannot know for sure. That's why asking questions is a good idea. That is what I did.
However, if you rephrase your question to: "Do we have enough information to form an opinion and ask good questions?"
The only reason the answer to that would be no, is if the CSM that ran on player communication failed to deliver that.
They did deliver. We can see from Ripard's and other's Blogs lists of CSMs doing various things. Xander's Podcasts. Podside appearances, Declarations of War Appearances, Ali's Space Hangouts, and more.
Kesper has remained the invisible man through out all of this.
I was pointed to his Twitter account today: https://twitter.com/KesperNorth
Note that the most recent mention of CSM was acceptance of being voted in, although he appears to have been tweeting recently so he's still alive and well... that's good news.
Not that twitter alone should be any grounds to judge, but there is no media that I have been able to find that he's made himself present on and commented about any CSM activities. This includes the CSM Town Hall he was not present at.
I am not after his hide or even his office. I am sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. Even if it's a simple miscalculation of his available time or interest, I am not here to condemn him. There just seems to be a problem there, that bears some scrutiny.
Again, would be happy to be crushed with a scathing rebuttal that actually showed how wrong I was. For example, other CSM coming to his defense to say how much he's done behind the scenes, much as has been done for Trebor.
As for you, Snow Axe, I don't understand why you are so determined to hold the CSM immune from accountability since we "cannot know", that's utter nonsense in my book. That's not how elected representation works. Nor should we elect representatives and never talk to them or ask questions until the next election.
You are nakedly and without shame, promoting willful ignorance and apathy. This I do condemn. Don't make me hand you a wizard hat. |

get a room, you two.
1) SOME of us ran on a communication with the players platform but, if memory serves, we ran individually, not as a cohesive bloc so stop calling us the communicative CSM.
2) SOME of us are doing a good job of keeping our personal campaign promises and chatting with you in various media.
3) A FEW of us are hip deep in a major war.
Guess where Kesper falls in that above list
Given the usual NDA disclaimer there is only so much we can say without either stepping on CCP toes or repeating ourselves and repeating ourselves. I'd like to think that we are getting that message out there on a fairly regular basis.

LOL, have to say even though your commentary was actually pretty offensive, you made me bust out in laughter twice today. So I appreciate that.
Thanks for the pointer to that.
I had a crash just before the relevant parts of the conversation, losing my place, and never got back to the episode. A pity as it was exactly what I was looking for.
For folks wanting to listen for themselves, the relevant part starts about 25 mins in.
Aleks asked the same questions I do. (But without the explicit mention that perhaps Kesper should step aside.) Does a great job of digging down to get some good answers.
Ripard and Ali talk about this Secretary deciding to be inward facing rather than outward. That he is somewhat active, but as Mike points out is in a major war. First big task is the Minutes. Ripard does say he wishes Kesper was a bit more active, but didn't feel like giving Kesper a hard time about it.
Aleks asks about the great plan, but really didn't get an answer. "Answered as best as can be at the moment. More soon(TM)"

Actually the removal of a CSM member was not put into the White paper.
Only the removal of officers with the following expected of them "The CSM is a GÇ£flatGÇ¥ organization, and Officers do not have special powers, only additional responsibilities. The responsibilities of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman are to handle official communications between the CSM and CCP, and they are expected to be particularly active in interacting with the community. The responsibilities of the Secretary and Vice-Secretary are related to the production of official CSM publications such as the CSM Summit Minutes. Thus, CSM Officers are expected to be the most active members of the CSM."
Which is pretty much why I gave up on the CSM as a bad joke after they made a player famous for failing to communicate with the players Chairman. Lets face it if the CSM members cant even be bothered to read the White Paper, governing them.
Or would someone like to show me where the Chairman is "particularly active in interacting with the community"

The chairman, Vice-Chairman, secretary and Vice Secretary have clearly defined roles.
I missed the bit in the white paper that says "The Chairman may out-source any and all of these roles, to another CSM member or Third world country"
As I said above

Well we had the discussion early on and reached an agreement about delegating areas of responsibility according to our capabilities and areas of interest. It seems to be working pretty well so I'm not even sure what the problem is?
If no outward communication was taking place, then it would be Treb's repsonsibility to make it happen (and it is; he's done his job in that respect) - It's not necessary that he himself is on the hook for making every last bit of day to day communication or even any of it, as long as he's assured that he's delegated that job out. We're more than happy to take over that task in order to free him up to do the work that yields the greatest value to the team. The White Paper can't forsee every contingency and combination, and we treat it as a guide rather than a hard and fast set of unbendable rules. The next CSM might have good reason to adopt a more rigid, formal approach; that will be up to them.
Luckily, CSM8 has so far been boringly crisis-free (as I told you to expect). Should that happen to change, you could reasonably expect to see Trebor taking a more active public role.

In spite my earlier criticisms, I really don't have a problem with this. I think on these types of teams it's quite important for people to pitch in where they are best fit and able. Officers responsible for making sure things don't fall through the cracks. That works for me.
Sorry Frying, I think you are being a bit wrong headed to be so literal with job roles in a volunteer organization. If you were paying them and they were up for review, then maybe such comments might be in order.
Communication of the delegations and who is doing what could perhaps be improved. A stickied post here, and/or something on your new http://CSM8.org website, would be the two most official places to look. That way it wouldn't be such a mystery, leaving people wondering if you are doing this on purpose or just a bunch of guys not coordinating with each other.
