So Im starting to vaguely see that they both take a lot to learn, but what are the real differences? What do people go for the most and why? Both needs high skills and are quite expensive, ones faster and the other you would think is tuffer? Is there anything a BS can't take? (Aside from another BS) I'm quite confused on this.
Also, why do I see more people in Armageddons then Apocalypse? Maybe this is a valid question.
I appreciate your responses.

Armageddons are better for pvp for their really good damage. BS are allrounder ships, while all you can do with HACs is kill stuff.

So im guessing your relatively safe from other ships in a bs, other then being locked down by an inty, and another bs. The bs taking any vs hac in general theory.

One reason many prefer hacs is that they are much faster and more agile than battleships. And correctly setup some of them can even tank better and do similar damage to ships smaller than a battleship.

A battleship can easily take out a HAC, but only if set up with heavy NOS and the like. Without them, they are effective HAC food. - Proud member of the [23].

Battleship: Large, many hitpoints, large hard hitting guns, does a lot of damage and can take it as well. However, slow, and not that mobile. Does not excel at fast mobile warfare.
HAC: Cruiser size, cruiser hitpoints and guns, however has very high resists and therefore can take a lot more damage than your standard cruiser. Usually has bonuses to damage that means it can produce a lot more damage than a standard cruiser. Much more mobile than a battleship, excels at skirmish type warfare or raiding strikes.
As for a L2 battleship being better than a L1, nope :) Actually it depends. A L1 battleship will have less grid and CPU in general, so fitting the largest, long range weapons is very difficult. However, it usually has the grid to easily fit short range weaponry, and the ship bonuses frequently make it so that it excels in a certian role. For instance, a dominix is probabally the most dangerous 1 v 1 BS that you can get, due to slot flexibility. However, it's useless in a long range fleet battle because it doesn't have enough grid to use 425mm railguns (350 rails is hard to fit actually). A megathron has no difficulty fitting 350's and with a grid mod or 2 425's fit nicely. In short you'll have to get some game experience and you'll see eventually what I mean.

Edited by: F''nog on 01/12/2005 04:30:50 It's best to get a BS first, because they're a great way to make money. You can run missions, hunt NPCs, and even mine in them. And they have complete coverage in insurance so if you lost it all you have to pay for is the cost of the mods and new insurance. They're also readily available, and lately cheaper than HACs.
HACs are great ships, but they don't have useful insurance and you may have to wait months to replace it.

Also as a note, there are no T2 (Tech 2) Battleships out there yet. However, most ships are divided into Tiers. THere are 3 frig tiers, I don't know how many cruiser, and 2 BS tiers. Generally the more expensive battleships are Tier 2 and better at combat (see raven & tempest) while the tier 1 is more useful in all round uses (Typhoon, Domi, scorpion). THis flips for amarr as an Armaggedon is capable of more damage than a Apoc, while an Apoc makes a great mining platform.
You probably want to go for BS first, not because its better than HAC, but because you can actually get one. HACs are rediculously expensive and typically have a 100+ day delay on getting one.

As an addendum, if you are a new player and want to fly a Vagabond, Ishtar, Deimos, or Zealot, put your order in with Naga now. You'll be able to fly the ship long before it's built. I think the last time I checked the waiting list for an Ish was 7 months.
