I downloaded EVE on friday because I wanted to get back to the game. To my big disappointment I got connection problems right on the start, took me 10 minutes to log in, and then once inside I could barely use any functions because everything was lagged with a 30 second delay. Not only does it lag, but I also drop the connection to the server every 5 minutes or so. This got me to do a pathping and a traceroute to the server.
It turns out there are two ips that give me problems, so I called my ISP (bredbandsbolaget) and talked to a guy on the operative department what I could do about it. He pointed me to Deutsche Telecom which seems to be owning one of the troubled ips. So I call them, and the guy tells me to mail me him the logs. Well I mail the logs to him and this is how the story looks:

Hello..., here is the answer: ############################################
Someone speaks swedish? I do not ...
And for your information ... i found the delay of 35ms not too much,
due to we have no value to compare, i can do nothing with this ticket.
I this trace we have only two hops, and all lines, which are involved in
the routing have no congestion. ############################################

Ok, so my pc is prefect clean, everything works fine, router is allright, nothing is bad except the connection to EVE. What more can I do?

Edited by: Isayo Arkindra on 03/12/2005 17:32:12 Send him a copy of THIS image. It shows huge packet loss. If you use a program like PingPlotter, lower the ping time to around 1 second and you'll notice extreme packet loss at their routers 217.239.38.241 and 62.153.203.190.
I'm using Bredbandsbolaget as well, 24mbit DSL from Malm÷. __________

Well, I got some more info here:
------------------------------- My mail -------------------------------
Can you please tell him that inbetween these 2 numbers there is 100% packet loss? 11 --- 100/ 100 =100 % 100/ 100 =100 % 62.153.203.190 12 --- 100/ 100 =100 % 100/ 100 =100 % 157.157.62.10
------------------------------- Response from Deutsche Telecom -------------------------------
Hello..., here is the answer: #################################
Why should i know, why ICELAND TELECOM is blocking ICMP?
The ip 62.153.203.190 is an transport-network, and therefore not
regulatory routed, so the trace reports paket-loss. but that is not
the only one explanation, there may be accesslists and blocked
ip's too ... since the customer tries not to reach our transport-
network and equipment from carriers, everything would be fine!
###################################
We will close the ticket.
Lol seems he got ****ed :)

I also have big problems, I get dissconnected all the time without any obivous reason, I have runned the "log serve" but it doesnt give any information. Clicking around in menues takes forever, I lost my bio!(?) and other strange things, less then a month ago I lost my Arma with a nice rack of T2 beam lasers... (that time I also got Harddrive failure on my computer, but it has been changed to a new one.
I got the old X-stream broadband connection from Bostream and using a D-Link Di-704, I have never had any problems before..

If we gather enough data about it - I'm sure we can turn DT around. I've saved up for a couple of days worth of data myself, but that's only from my place here. Would love to have some data from others as well for a more convincing 'discussion' with them.
The IP to trace/log against, is 157.157.139.10 __________

As can be seen in Isayo's picture, it's stopping considerably earlier than our network. I've heard information about BBB users having trouble for quite some time accessing TQ but as can be seen, this problem is outside our networks.
Our providers network (the 157.157 part) puts ICMP traffic at very low priority due to a number of reasons and in some cases disable ICMP entirely.
However, our providers have been looking into it and they're trying to see if they have more leverage with dtag.de than we have

Thank you for the official word on it Oveur, I was pleasantly surprised you made a post here. Keep us updated with the status on this problem, someone somewhere along the way is doing something wrong and we need to pinpoint it down. We as swedish private customers have a hard time getting in touch (not to mention convincing) other european telecom companies that there is something wrong with their network. Our logs and authority power don't pack much of a punch :/

I have some very interesting information. I removed my router and connected directly, guess what? No more lag. There seems to be a change in the way packets are handled that messes with routers we have, it has nothing to do with BBB. If I open DMZ through router to my computer I can also play without any LAG, so now atleast we have a solution. Though I have no idea why I was playing eve 1 year ago with same router and same firmware and had absolutely no problems. Maybe we can have a word on this from Oveur.

I have the exact same problem, same circumstances and same solution... To send ALL packets to one PC.
See http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=254714
I assume the packet loss at the german server, confuses all/some routers/firewalls. It doesn't seem to know where to send some of the packets, but if you just tell it to send ALL to one internal IP adress, it works (or if you bypass it).

I¦m also a cutomer of the ISP BBB (bredbandsbolaget), and I had the problems as well. I work as a IT consultant, so I used VPN to our office in sweden that uses Telia. All worked perfectly.
I also tyed to route EVE traffic to only one computer. I got a slight boost (I was able to log on, and create my first cracter, after that STOP)
The BBB rep. is going down the drain, alot of coutsmers complaining when playing on-line games : WOW,SWG ect.

Edited by: Isayo Arkindra on 09/12/2005 01:42:03 I've finnaly been able to get in touch with someone who can actually DO something at DTAG. We're doing a heap of traces etc so that they can locate the problem.
I'll update this thread when I get more details.
( Last trace, done only minutes ago - resulted in a 30% packet loss, should be 'evidence' enough I guess ;))
Edit: I'm using a VPN as well all the time now for playing EVE, can't do it on the connection through DTAG. This through a connection in the UK. __________

DTAG is a major pain in the rear, they got routes that are really bad, as I've stated in other threads DTAG is the poit where lag heads through the roof, also where the connectivity problems lie.
Playing from one link I have 12 hops, which constantly CTD me, playing though my vpn and proxy on my other link gives me 20 hops but less ping and zero CTD's due to unstable connection.
CCP try find other ways to route (hint hint abuse IP-Only we gots uber peering to most backbones).

Best regards Frank
Are they just really, really dense there? They've got tons of tickets saying there's something wrong with the trace over their networks, yet they firmly belive that everyone else is lying, and that they're correct.
So, in regards to this matter - I will need lots and lots of traces from you people. Please use PingPlotter, trace TQ at 157.157.139.10 while playing for 20-30 minutes and send me the log at [email protected]. If there aren't any spikes at DTAG or packet loss at the time you traced it, don't send me it - just keep it going untill it starts acting up again (which for me is every couple of minutes).

Edited by: rewozz2 on 10/12/2005 18:49:58 The interesting thing is that it works perfectly if you run your game through DMZ or directly through the BBB LAN cable. It seems the router has some problem with BBB specifically because I am now at my parents house with the router on a Telia 0.5 mbit connection and I can play perfectly.
This means there is something SPECIFICALLY wrong with the way BBB communicates with some routers. Mine is a Netgear WGU624 with latest firmware, very solid router.
BTW Oveur or any ISD, THIS is the thread to STICK! And I mean STICK, not LOCK.
We have a primitive solution in this thread, we just need to get the attention so people can send in all the info compiled to BBB to make them understand better what's wrong with their network so we can start using our routers to play again.
Thank you.

The Telia route does not go through DTAG, from what I've been able to observe, which is the issue for me - at least.
