Edited by: Agrikk on 05/12/2005 18:39:02 I am looking to redesign my battleship setup or perhaps pick a new setup all together. I'd like to see people's thoughts on good short range setups across different BS platforms.
My self-assigned role in running agent missions is short range defense. Most people I gang with have theie BSes set up for long range sniping, which is all fine and good until you warp through a gate in deadspace and emerge dead-bang in the middle of a spawn. It then becomes my job to clear away all those >20km rats and then hang loose while the other guys snipe all the 50km+ rats.
If and when I head into 0.0, I'd also rat up close, because chasing after drops that are over 100km away doesn't seem fun.
I'm currently using a tempest with a bunch of tech II 800's and heavy missiles in high, webber and moderate shield tank in mid and PDU's and damage/tracking mods low.
This setup just doesn't feel right to me. I'm using a tempest because I'm a Minmitar character and spent my training time learning Minmitar Battleship skills and both long and short range large projectile specialization.
Ideally I'd prefer remaining minmitar, but if it's glaringly obvious to everyone but me that the best short-range BS setup is another race, I'd consider skilling up in that direction.

Raven for close range battleship defence. Blaster Megathrons do well as well as autocannon tempests. Pulse geddons work pretty well also.

2 T2 painters tend to make even cruisers somewhat larger than life. I know they make frigs take full damage from heavies pretty easily. ------------------------------------

I like the megatrhon whit blasters and a tank
tho for A mega U will need A t2 blasters or very good named
setup is 6 irons t2 1 electron t2 100 MN MWD web scram can injector whit 800 boosters 2 L reps 3 hardners damage mods and an RCU

Just get a munnin with artillery on it or autocannons + afterburner... probably solve most of those problems =0 -------------------------------------------

Something tells me your right...with the precision missiles and 2 t2 painters you could prolly light up an inty pretty damn bad...

Raven for me but thats cause its where all my time and effort is. I often run
6t2 siege 2 med nos 1t2 large shield booster 4t2 hardeners web/scrambler 4t2 bcs 1 cpu thingy
benefit of web is that it lets u mine HACs. and u can take down a light tanked BS usually b4 he can warp.
sometimes for the desire to do more damage to fuel the dmg junky needs I run
6t2 siege 1t2 large shield booster 3 hardeners sensor booster web 5t2 bcs

Auto-Tempests should be armour tanked, and should use Dual 650 II's. If you can't afford Cap IIs for the mids, NAGA sells Eutectics and F-b10's ceaply.

Here's what I think I'm going to do. I should have the skills for this in only a few days:
High: 4x800mm II 2x650mm II 2x Heavy NOS I
Med: 100mn AB II (or 100mn MWD II if not deadspace) Tracking Comp II Target Painter II 2x Cap Recharger II
Low: 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Large Rep II Kinetic Hardener II Thermic Hardener II Tracking Enhancer II Gyrostab II
I'm thinking about dropping the Gyro low for another large repairer but dunno if I have the cap to run it for long. I'm also debating over the effectiveness of perhaps adding a webber mid instead of the cap recharger or target painter.

ok teh rmr raven setups: 6x t2 cruise, heavy nosf, med neut xl c5(t2 if fits), boost amp, 2x invunerability t2, injector, warp scram 4x t2 bcu, pduII
260dps with maxed skills b4 u add dmg mods. That makes 500dps... up to 250km :).. price ~40mil(once t2 bcu gets to ~2-3mil)
Wtt mega for raven... and luckily in area i live i have named launchers laying in every corner.

I have no experience with minmatar battleships, but a lot of experience with missions at short ranges. So thats what I'll comment on
My close range setup is (Apoc): High:8xHvy Pulse or Hvy Beams. Med: AB, Web and cap rechargers. Low: 2xL reppers, 3-4x Hardners and more cap.
The cruiser size weapons can make short work of any frig when the web grinds them to a halt, just wait till they turn off their MWD's. I can also kill Supreme Drone Parasites with that setup with surprising ease, as they can't hit you when you orbit at 5km (without AB).
