Spike needs a huge buff to dps and a nerf to fall off, the heck with a TE and TC max range your shells can hit beyond max targeting range (250km) but does such a poor dps it's not even interesting to do this without full lows of MFS (I have one mega with 4MFS and even with this +3TE Iridium hits harder)
You know? I have noticed this problem with just about every "long range" ammo in the game. Radio, Microwave, Nuclear, Spike, Tungsten, Iron. All of them completely suck except for Scorch. Seems endemic of a problem with the ammo overall design, wouldn't you think? Barrage completely sucks?
See, I had this nagging feeling that I was forgetting something. Barrage.
That also goes on the list of "not suck", along with Scorch.
Point still stands though, the large majority of long range ammo is pretty gimp. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

Null is just as good as scorch, IMO.
When you say the long-range ammo sucks, what you really mean is aurora, tremor, and spike. But the reason isn't the damage or the range, it's because of the excessive tracking penalty (75%) on a platform that already has terrible tracking.
I mean, you'd think tracking really wouldn't matter at such ranges but when you take something like a large railgun which doesn't have good tracking to begin with and cut its tracking by 3/4 then it suddenly matters a whole lot more. It really hurts the effective damage in most cases. -áMy (mostly boring) Youtube channel. |

Quite specifically on rails because those are supposed to be the dps ones, since rails don't have the alpha but ROF at each chunk of tracking lost with spike is a huge DPS penalty far more important than using Iridium instead. Just a personal opinion.

Oh bloody hell!
If that fit is standard T2 then welcome in the era of rail rapage as those stats and those ranges will **** all over a lot of stuff. Tracking I hear you say! Well I say on one of the faster attack cruisers already well know for good speed when shield fitted makes tracking a lot less of an issue than people think. And that was gun damage only in that pic!
If they do this then beams need the same treatment and tbh arty would probably need a slight buff as well but seeing as arty has a hugh alpha advantage not to sure. That is the Way, the Tao.

then maybe you should fit tracking enhancers instead of mag stabs because you want to go for "max damage" instead of balancing it out...

The Rokh in particular, is the premiere battleship of the line for most alliances. Medium rails are ******* atrocious though but I doubt they make it through with the ~40% buff they have now. Well the Rokh at least for the CFC was mostly an alphafleet alternative for people who didn't want to use the Maelstrom. The coalition doctrine is now the rail Mega, probably owing to the fact that armor tackle is far more durable than shield tackle. However for RAZOR and several other alliances the rail Naga has been and continues to be extremely powerful in its own right. Any buff to large rails would put them over the top.

I suppose my dream of hybrids being split into two different weapon systems (rails + new short range kinetic and blasters + new long range thermal) will never be realized.
Glad medium rails are being made useful again. My vulture is almost as effective if I just jettison the ammo. DirectX 11, it's not rocket appliance! |

The turret slots on the Vulture are literally there as a sanity check, actually fitting guns to a Vulture AND expecting it to be the primary purpose of the ship is not only short-sighted but also ********. Inappropriate signature removed. Navigator. |
