This might be a really stupid question but I have searched several times and never found an answer:
WHy is that npc pirates don't show up in d scan? Is there any particular balance reason for this, because it feels a little inconsistent since you can see basically everything else in space there.

I have wondered this as well, all I can come up with is ratting would be way too easy as you could just scan the belts for the ships you are looking for and ignore all others. |

Because if you're doing any sort of PvE somewhere not in HS, do you really want your early warning system clogged up with NPCs so you don't see the actual threats from other players? |

The only reason to use D-scan in pve is to watch out for ganks or WT's when bearing it up That is the Way, the Tao.

anyway if it would be possible to scan rats on belts it would not help because rats warp to belt only after someone has warped to belt.
Scanning commander wreck can sometime bring some faction loot because afk miners do not loot often. |

I do not know the history but wonder if it to prevent bad people finding your mission site before you get to it, or while you're away from it.
It's a bit of a pain at times, but wreck count tends to work as a delayed proxy for any time I want to know what NPCs are about from afar ... altho that is not usually PvE. I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. Part of the reason was to stop people hopping system to system and quckly scanning belts to find faction and officer spawns. |

I see, makes some sense.
I was just curious on this inconsistency, is all. |
