Hey guys and Gals,
Any chance you guys could sign your updates with a consistent publisher title? I run a pretty heuristic firewall/AV and you guys always changing the publisher title drives me nuts sometimes.
In the last few patches you've signed it the following ways...
CCP Games CCP Games. CCP HF CCP HF. CCP
A little consistency would be appreciated so I can stop adding exceptions to my systems :)
Thanks! |

I don't think it belongs in issues/work around, I've submitted bug reports several times to no avail, so now I'm taking the direct approach...

I love it when people go nuts protecting a machine like its mission critical infrastructure, and then use it for gaming
The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

I believe it will be in the file signature that the patch files have when you download them, either that or on the actual patcher file itself. -The sword is only as sharp as the one who wields it! Other names: Drenzul (WoT, WoW, Lineage 2, WarH, BloodBowl, BSG, SC2 and lots more)-á |

It is the patch files themselves... they are all signed with different publisher names/IDs.
And I may seem paranoid to some of you, but I figure it's like a car, take good care of it and you have fewer problems. |

If you're referring to the UAC popup that appears when running the patch .exe file, that shouldn't have changed, since it requires a new certificate from an issuing authority (such as Verisign), in so far as I know.
I don't know why you would be receiving different names, but I'll look back over a bunch of older patches (last 5 TQ release or so) and see if I spot anything. Software Engineer, Core Infrastructure |

Am i the only guy in this world not caring about the cancer you call AntiVirus Software, because i either never catch anything or, if my system behaves differently, (and i notice differences up to a second compared to "usual") i just remove malware myself ?
Every time somebody has issues with his AV, it's funny. xD
Anyway, i believe what he is talking about is the digital signature, which can be found (windows) via rightclicking the executable -> Digital Signatures. This is (should) be the signature shown via the UAC.
Reads: CCP hf.
If i remember correctly, this name changed on some occasions, when the UAC was opening and asking for permission to do [whatever]. |

Atropos - Negative, I will take a screenshot on patch day, however, that may be the same kind of thing... but yes the publisher ID is different when installing.
And for those who don't run AV, I guarantee your system has been compromised at least once if not multiple times, with as non-invasive as some AV is now, I highly recommend it, speaking as someone from an IT/Infrastructure position. |

Oddly Malware and Virus's are difference things and so is spyware. Sometimes the difference is so finite you'd have to be picky though. Firewalls are also not antivirus.
If you're not running some form of AV (and running something like "stinger" once a week doesn't count) then you might find that your computer is running as a "zombie" or slave to a spam system. No, you wouldn't normally know it if you were infected.
I'd take a guess that Alexzandros is running a fairly customised firewall. Beyond the ability of most folk and in most cases beyond the requirement of most folk too. But like with EVE, he's playing it his way.
The signatures do change, not enough for most to notice - but it's enough to be noticed. If you parse the logs in retrospect it can be a bit confusing . (it's a bit like looking at bank statements and trying to figure out why the local supermarket has a different billing name each month) |

If you only knew heh.... Modem -> Sonicwall -> IDS box -> Router -> PCs which all have crowd sourced heuristic AV/Firewall
And yes I do have a reason for the very specific setup.

Indeed, it also increases the chances for someone to spoof or create a malicious app that is recognized as any one of the above signatures that CCP has used, because someone has had to create a bunch of exceptions for them. |
