Edited by: Aguilan on 12/12/2005 04:51:09 Ok played for about 6 hours now and I am really liking it and I am staying...just have one question: I read the FAQs and the site but I just want to make sure I have all the expansions activated. I see the "cold war" spalsh screen. I purchased the account right from the website here. Does this mean I have everything before Cold Expansion as well?

The expansions are done automatically. You're playing the same game everybody else is.
(Er... I guess a "yes" would have been enough?)

Yeah, if only every game was so generous. I was surprised at that myself when I first subscribed to the game. I expected some limitation and then a surprise fee for added content.
Just adds to my game loyalty. Any company that cares enough about the customers to add content for free is a company worthy of my loyalty. The fact that the game is fun, addictive, and has depth is icing on the cake.

There's a new expansion coming out this coming week... you'll be getting that gratis, as well. |

Just like any other MMO.. your monthly subscription pays for such additional content amongst other things.
Im guessing with eve, however, that new content would only really be noticable by existing non-newbie players.
I also see there is a new expansion coming out next week, lots "omg nerf" comments going on.. but will new players really notice any of this new content?

Not really. Most MMOs charge you for expansions.

Completely untrue. Every expansion affects everything. It doesn't merely add new high-end stuff, it changes the whole game.

Certainly. See the features page.
The most noticable things will be the Mk2 changes (boosts for basically all tech 1 ships), the drone changes (massive boosts to medium and light drones, along with drone damage modules), new tech 2 ships, etc. - Proud member of the [23].

How many MMO's have you played? Take EQ2 for example. Every little tiny minsicule expansion cost you money. Major expansions cost you more money. Now, I don't know if we are talking about the same thing when it comes to content, but EQ2 offered very little content in exchange for their money.
Granted WOW is a little better. They have offered a lot of content for no additional cost, but just look at the amount of subscribers they have. 3 million plus last time I checked. EQ 1 offered nothing for free.
So, either your idea of MMO's is different than mine, or Eve is less greedy than some MMO's.

WoW is coming out with an expansion that will cost money though. And you'll have to get it to be viable in PVP because it's 10 additional levels.

Edited by: The Snowman on 12/12/2005 18:47:11 city of heroes never charged for their expansions..
as has been said about wow that doesnt either really..
and now Eve... seems to me most of the best MMO's nowadays have 'issues' or 'chapters' or some kind of regular content update free of charge.. why else would you stay subscribed for any length of time?
never played everquest so I dont know, and maybe there are other popular ones which do charge.. But I certainly wouldnt entertain those, and people should really come to expect it nowadays, no demand it!.. simply because all the best MMO's dont seem to.
even Guildwars..though Guildwars has chargable expansions there are NO monthly subscription fee's AND the game has been added with LOADS of new features and content sinces it was released only 6 months ago.
no no, charging for online content will or should quickly be a thing of the past, especially with the way competition is nowadays.. customers should expect it, we are paying customers.. we should demand eveything for our money

You seem to have not played many MMORPGs. The vast majority charge for expansions. EQ, EQ2, Anarchy Online, etc.

But the game sucks to begin with, as its simply a crappy Diablo 2 clone.
Thank god they don't charge a monthly fee for it--I would expect Diablo 2 to be free to play too. - Proud member of the [23].
