Well this thread is going down the drain...I do apologise if you felt i was insulting you directly, i was issueing a sweeping generalisation towards ISS because several of thier membership have posted in the simalar manner as you have.
And like it or not. You do reflect the alliance and you cannt wave that responsiblity by doing so. If you do not want to be associated with ISS while on these boards you need to turn that display off in your settings.
So since this thread is going down the drain fast as it was started to get flames....you should have the mods lock it....if not....IBTL

On the whole deployment thing... surely they have a failsafe time? i.e.:
If we have not got a stable build by 18H00 GMT on Thursday, we rollback the server and go back to testing the building on Singularity....
After all, they should have a full backup of Tranquility (as per one of the other threads) that they could restore onto Singularity to continue deployment testing on... yes?

15+ fixes to something that SHOULD have been ready straight off.
Honestly, for any major deployment, you backup the original at some point, rebuild it on a replica system, and test that...you don't take down your live one and test that many fixes on it.
I'd like to know why they didn't test this exact cycle on a test environment first. Bugs that the QA guys missed? Why not spend a whole week having them go over the replica build? Rather than taking down the Live one and hoping it'll work. Should have locked up Singularity, and copied Tranquility onto it and do what you're doing today on that...THEN, when you're happy, you do a deployment to LIVE...
Someone at CCP needs to go read a book on SDLC.

Are you trying to teach CCP how to do their job? I'd love to play you're MMORPG, it would be the perfect game I'm sure =)

I have a feeling they won't open the server completely anyways, they will open up clusters at a time to prevent a rushed 18k logon. prolly increase it 500-100, 2000, 3000 etc until its fully opened, like has been done previously with big patches. Anyways, you can dl the test patches as they get released if your that bothered, but remember to copy your eve incase it buggers up.

I imagine if the actual update gets completely b0rked they have backups. Can't guarantee it, but I can't think of an MMO company that's screwed up that bad...

out of boredom i manually patched my test directory up to 3795. i can select either tranq or sing server with that client and get a valid message back.
unfortunately it says the cluster size for tranq is (0) and sing (300)..both of which stay full.
someone find a cure for boredom!!

Something always goes wrong when TQ needs to get patched... I have never known it any other way. Deadlines are never met, always extended and murphy obviously has a room rented at the CCP server location.
The best thing you can do on patch day is simply not even bother trying to play EVE for a day. In this case it was already a day till the deadline so i'd say, come back on friday or saturday and you will prolly save yourself a headache. |

The fact that they haven't made the patch avaliable yet kinda makes me wonder if they are using it as a bottleneck to keep the servers from crapping out as 18k people try to logon at once.

Every patch, there are delays.
Every patch there are predictions of doom and ruination.
Somehow...Eve is still around, and still a terrific game. Be patient, wait for CCP to get it squared away (I think history is on their side here) and do "something else" for a little while.
Or get your blood pressure up because your life is crumbling when Eve is unavailable, I guess.

umm..so when/where did it say "you will definately be able to download the patch earlier than 20:00"? i miss a lot sometimes so it may have gone right past me..correct me if i'm wrong, though.

There are different servers we download the patch from than the line the game runs at.. So, it will take time for everybody to download the patch, but the servers will get a smooth phase to get up and running.

Why didnt they just rush the patch like usual and end up with about 15hours of downtime ?
why set aside 24 hours when everyone knows the servers going to go **** up as soon as 18k people log on at once, and thats AFTER the server giving us the patch goes **** up .
Prove me wrong please.
Probably because they are altering the patch at the very last minute from things they are finding out still have issues on the TQ server. They have been altering at the last minute for patches for quite a while.
Best not to pay attention to predicted times of when the server will be up. Just check your client log on screen every once in a while to see if the server is live and when the patch is available for download. It is the reason for setting long skills.

Advice to O.P.:
Scoot chair back
Stand up
Walk upstairs (out of mom's basement)
Walk down hall
Go out front door
Cringe for sake of being exposed to sunlight for the first time since you got EVE. ----------------------------------------------- MAKE THE MACROERS SCREAM |

Heres one friggin word for everyone complaining about the patch or the down time or anything WHAAAAAAH Stop whining go do something productive like i dont know go arrange your sock drawer. CCP is doing what they can to get the game back to us better than it was before and its about time the whiners, you know who you are, to stand behind CCP and let them do what they do best.

Unless you know more than i do of course.
I proved myself right, this always happens on patchday, i just wanted to know the theory behind the 24hour downtime which hasent happened before , when all other patches have gone the same way (this one too btw)

Well all i can say in my defence is that for having just been back about a week since taken a year long break, it's been a pretty ****ty week full of disconnects, server issues... and now the longest patch day ever. So yeah, one does get annoyed if all the ingredients are in place ;-). |

The fact that this game community has any maturity at all in it is rather unique. Have you seen the general message boards for some of those other games?
I've found (thus far) that the quality of people that play the game generally counterbalances the l33t and the angsty, angry people that one normally perceives in a PvP environment. I like it, which is why I'm playing it now.

SFC listen to you lot!
They cant release a client patch until ALL the bugs have been sorted out & it's COMPLETELY compatible with TQ.
The whole point of Singularity is to test out new stuff, right it has backups of all the data & should in THEORY work when TQ is patched. But how many of you actually do any programming.
THERE IS ALWAYS BUGS TO WORK OUT.
And with TQ being the scale it is, can u imagine if an incovenient bug was left in? I'd imagine pretty much 50k+ petitions in the inbox, so no wonder they wanna get it right first time. Hence put in long skill training.
Wait until the patch is online, active & most of all WORKING.
In the meantime, i'm gonna stare at the login screen.

well break it down to more simple bits of info. CCP wants to make money. releasing content and doing it in the most efficient manner is key to making the most money with these things. to think they are sitting in rooms filled with cash screaming "muhahahahah, let's see how angry we can make our customers!!" is kind of..well...not-so-smart. (although it DOES seem to be Blizzards attitude)
